Tough luck loss for Didier Fuentes, who made one big mistake (a 2-2 middle-middle fastball to Schwarber) but otherwise was fantastic.

Dedniel Núñez — Slider usage 70% (+28 pts vs. 42% usual); Four-Seamer usage 30% (-26 pts vs. 56% usual). Two infield singles aside, Núñez is definitely trending in the right direction, and the stuff looks awesome right now. Command is that final piece.

Josh Ekness continues to struggle, and while the stuff still looks excellent, the command is lagging behind, so we are not there yet. Someone to keep an eye on for 2027.

The time off seems to have helped Ben Joyce, who looked great here despite zero strikeouts. How would the stuff look if he had to pitch today or tomorrow, though?

Wyatt Olds — Four-Seamer down 0.9 MPH (95.9 vs. 96.8 season avg). The very first pitch of his outing was a middle-in fastball to Ballesteros, who was all over it for a solo home run. After that first pitch, though, Olds was dominant even with his four-seamer not at its best.
Alec Gamboa — Four-Seamer down 0.9 MPH (94.6 vs. 95.5 season avg)

Slade Cecconi — Four-Seamer up 2.1 MPH (95.6 vs. 93.5 season avg); Cutter usage 52% (+27 pts vs. 25% usual). The increased velocity helps a little bit, but the stuffs still lacking a bit as a reliever.
Craig Yoho — Changeup usage 92% (+44 pts vs. 48% usual). He’s turning into Tommy Kahnle, isn’t he?

Andrew Kittredge’s slider was responsible for allowing all three hits here, including a home run to Lowe. The stuff just isn’t what it once was.

Justin Martinez pitched the ninth in a tie game (and picked up a win), so that’s something at least. Fastballs still look elite, but the command and secondaries are still lagging.

Nate Pearson — Four-Seamer up 1.1 MPH (98.8 vs. 97.7 season avg). This was the best we’ve seen Pearson all season, maybe, with his four-seamer and sinker both up and the slider working (Perdomo almost took one deep, though). I’m interested to see what the Royals do with this bullpen in the off-season. Do they add a closer or go with Pearson/Cruz in the role?

Ryan Zeferjahn — Sinker up 1.6 MPH (97.9 vs. 96.3 season avg); Sinker usage 43% (+28 pts vs. 14% usual). Chourio snuck a 99 MPH fastball at his neck past a pulled-in infield here for a single, hardly Zeferjahns fault, but he still got stuck with the blown save.

Kenley Jansen — Sinker up 0.9 MPH (94.8 vs. 93.9 season avg). He only threw one sinker, and the cutter was meh (Jeffers flyout at 105 MPH had a .900 xBA and would have been a home run in 17/30 ballparks). He’s hanging in there, though, and is now just six saves away from 500 for his career.

I feel like we shouldn’t be stretching Dylan Smith like this. He shouldn’t be asked to get the last six outs of the game; just give him one inning, please. Nothing was hit that hard here; all four hits were singles (three ground balls, two infield hits).

Hogan Harris blew the save initially as he gave up a game-tying homer to Giménez, but salvaged a win as the A’s were able to walk things off in the bottom half of the inning. Does Harris get the next save chance, or does this outing get Alvarado another shot?
