Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
MIA 0 – PHI 7
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| William Kempner | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Cade Gibson | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- William Kempner has really good stuff and maybe a deeper arsenal than I had expected. My only concern is the fact that he regularly had 14% walk rates coming up through the minors. The cutter seems to help him find the zone when needed, but the fastball and sweeper zone rates are below 40% right now.
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Mayza | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Jonathan Bowlan | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Chase Shugart | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
- Jonathan Bowlan gave up a single on a 3-2 fastball he left middle-middle, but he struck out the last two batters he faced. The fastball is just so good.
KCR 3 – WSN 7
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Black | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Beck Way | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- One of these two may develop into something eventually, but we’re not there yet.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brad Lord – W (5) | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Clayton Beeter | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Gus Varland | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Clayton Beeter’s velocity was over 95 MPH again, but he also threw just 2 of his 18 pitches in the zone here.
NYM 0 – CIN 12
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Pintaro | 3.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| David Peterson | 3.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Blegh
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brock Burke | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Caleb Ferguson | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Chase Petty | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Chase Petty was throwing harder here, with his fastball sitting over 98 MPH, and with that velo, he could instantly get some high leverage consideration. There’s a world where Petty becomes a really good fastball/slider late-inning reliever.
SDP 0 – STL 3
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lucas Giolito – L (2) | 5.0 IP | 3 ER | 7 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Kyle Hart | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Kyle Hart’s back, and he’s throwing much harder, making his fastball much more palatable. He could be a pretty good sinker/sweeper reliever.
COL 4 – CHC 5
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Antonio Senzatela | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Jaden Hill | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Victor Vodnik – HLD (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Juan Mejia – L (6) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Seth Halvorsen – BS (1) | 0.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
- Victor Vodnik is back in the Rockies bullpen, and he still can’t find the zone, so what’s the point?
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phil Maton – BS (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Jacob Webb – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Caleb Thielbar – BS (3) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Daniel Palencia – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
- Daniel Palencia may wind up with more wins than saves this season (he’ll get saves eventually), but at least he was able to strike out the side here without his best stuff and command.
MIN 4 – TEX 2
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Rogers – W (3) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Andrew Morris – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 0 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Eric Orze – HLD (7) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez – SV (7) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Yoendrys Gómez with back-to-back saves? Are the Twins finally allowing this to happen? He leaned on his cutter here, which is rare, but he’s been throwing it more lately, and I get it, it’s a good pitch. I feel good about the cutter and sweeper; the fastball is still a bit inconsistent, though.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peyton Gray | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Joe Ross | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- I forgot Joe Ross was in the Diamondbacks bullpen to start the season. His fastball was up 1.16 MPH here to 96.7, but the stuff still remains below average across the board.
DET 9 – HOU 3
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jacob Waguespack | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Kyle Finnegan – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Tyler Holton – HLD (6) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Will Vest | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Enmanuel De Jesús | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Will Vest with zero whiffs as he had trouble locating his slider, but it’s a good sign he’s pitching in the eighth, even with the big lead.
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Okert | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 75% CSW |
| AJ Blubaugh | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Jayden Murray | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Bryan Abreu | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Bryan Abreu left a slider up to Keith here, which resulted in his third home run of the day, but other than that, Abreu actually looked really good here. He threw 12 fastballs and averaged 96.5 MPH on them, so maybe we are finally getting closer to the real Abreu.
LAA 3 – ARI 4
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jose Fermin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Jose Fermin is back up with the Angels, and it was more of the same with him: great stuff, terrible command.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Loáisiga – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Paul Sewald – SV (18) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Paul Sewald got got by Walton on a 2-2 fastball up and away, so we’ll just ignore that anomaly as Sewald looked great otherwise. Not that I thought Puk was a true threat to Sewald’s job, but the news that Puk has suffered a setback and needs an MRI should further solidify Sewald’s job security.
PIT 2 – ATH 11
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carmen Mlodzinski | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 7 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 9 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Dennis Santana | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 60% CSW |
- Dennis Santana looked better here, with his fastball up near 95 MPH and the slider and changeup looking the best they have all season. The command wasn’t great, but I’m intrigued by how good his arsenal looked in general here.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Sterner | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Mason Barnett | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Mason Barnett has put up some great numbers recently, but I don’t buy it. It’s a deep mix, but everything is below-average. IF he can have elite command of this arsenal, that’s a different story, but his career minor-league numbers don’t suggest that. He does command his slider/sweeper well, I’m not sure how much that can carry him, though.
TBR 3 – LAD 4
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cam Booser | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Steven Matz – L (4) | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- I was expecting more from Steven Matz as a reliever, but it doesn’t look like that will happen.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Hurt – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Will Klein – HLD (9) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Alex Vesia – HLD (11) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Tanner Scott – SV (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Tanner Scott looked great here. Great stuff, good command, no issues at all. He should have at least another month in the closer role and may be worth holding onto even after Díaz returns.
