Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
PHI 2 – DET 10
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Mayza – L (3) | 1.0 IP | 4 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Max Lazar | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Garrett Stubbs | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Tim Mayza’s velocity was down here, and the results showed it. Hopefully, there’s nothing serious going on here, as Mayza has been the team’s best left-handed reliever.
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jacob Waguespack | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Drew Sommers | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Beau Brieske | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Still waiting for some signs of life from Beau Brieske, this isn’t really it, though. The fastball looks OK, it’s the off-speed stuff that is
NYY 5 – WSN 3
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fernando Cruz – HLD (15) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Tim Hill – BS (2) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Jake Bird | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| David Bednar – W (3) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- On the one hand, you got two innings without any baserunners and a win from David Bednar. But there was no save and ZERO swing and miss from him despite throwing 27 pitches. Take the win and ratio help and hope for some K’s next time out.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zack Littell | 4.0 IP | 1 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 5 K | 8 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Tom Cosgrove – HLD (1) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Clayton Beeter – HLD (5) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Matt Krook – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Justin Lawrence | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Clayton Beeter looked great against the one batter he faced, but anytime you can get Matt Krook a save chance in the ninth inning, you just have to do it.
KCR 3 – BAL 5
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Cruz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Daniel Lynch IV | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Matt Strahm – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- Steven Cruz — Four-Seamer up 1.3 MPH (99.5 vs. 98.2 season avg); Four-Seamer usage 85% (+26 pts vs. 58% usual)
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rico Garcia – W (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Andrew Kittredge – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Tyler Wells was off today, so we saw another Andrew Kittredge save chance. If the Orioles are open to moving pieces from their bullpen, Kittredge is probably one of the top candidates to go, but the same could be said about Wells, who has just one year of arbitration left. That could give Rico Garcia some save chances in the final two months, although they could move on from him, similar to how they traded Bryan Baker last season.
CHC 0 – CIN 4
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trent Thornton | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Jake Woodford | 2.0 IP | 3 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Trent Thornton has been seeing some high-leverage usage, but he’s not worth chasing anywhere (2.8% K-BB rate).
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brock Burke | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Emilio Pagán | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Well, that’s certainly the best Emilio Pagán has looked this season, especially from a fastball standpoint. The questions now are: can he sustain this, and where is he pitching in August if the team decides to sell?
SEA 2 – TBR 7
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eduard Bazardo | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 54% CSW |
| José A. Ferrer | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
| Nick Davila | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Cole Wilcox | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- José A. Ferrer gave up a home run to Caminero here on a pitch that had no right leaving the yard (98 MPH fastball up and out of the zone), but otherwise was just singled out.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cole Sulser – HLD (9) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Garrett Cleavinger – HLD (16) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Kevin Kelly | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- We may not see the same velocity from Garrett Cleavinger as he had last season, but he’s still finding ways to make things work, and both fastballs still grade out well in the 95-96 MPH range given their movement profiles.
CLE 3 – MIA 2
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erik Sabrowski – HLD (20) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Colin Holderman – HLD (8) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis – HLD (17) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Cade Smith – SV (28) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- I’m trying to stay patient with Erik Sabrowski because the stuff still looks great, and we saw how dominant he can be when right. He made a mistake on a fastball down and in to Jimenez here for a home run, but other than that, looked better than he has. The command just needs to improve.
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Gusto | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Ryan Gusto has an intriguing starter’s profile and throws eight pitches, but he’s not likely to make a difference in holds leagues this season.
BOS 6 – NYM 2
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyron Guerrero – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 5% CSW |
| Garrett Whitlock – HLD (16) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 7% CSW |
| Greg Weissert | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- No strikeouts from the bullpen here, but I can’t blame them given the fact that they didn’t arrive at the field until two hours before opening pitch.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A.J. Minter | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Kodai Senga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Cionel Pérez | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Xzavion Curry | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
- A.J. Minter grooved a cutter into Seigler’s barrel here for a two-run home run and later gave up a double to Yoshida, two hitters he should be able to handle. The stuff still looks fine, so let’s just chalk it up to a bad night.
ATH 1 – CHW 14
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aaron Civale – L (7) | 2.1 IP | 4 ER | 6 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Elvis Alvarado | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Justin Sterner | 0.0 IP | 5 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Mason Barnett | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Carlos Cortes | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- The A’s are clearly trying to make Elvis Alvarado their stopper/fireman guy, but the issue is that the rest of the bullpen is a problem as well, and there’s no clear-cut closer here.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Davis | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Tyler Davis has a promising pitch mix, and honestly, at this point, I’d prefer him over Seranthony Domínguez. He just needs to improve his command.
HOU 3 – TEX 7
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Okert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Bryan King – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
- Bryan King’s fastball velocity had been up recently, but it was down a MPH here, and well, you see the result. Hopefully, this was just a one-off event, and nothing is underlying.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chris Martin – BS (2) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Cole Winn – W (5) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Tyler Alexander | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- I’m not sure what the Rangers are expecting from Chris Martin at this point, but I don’t think he should be pitching with the lead.
LAA 4 – MIN 3
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samy Natera Jr. – HLD (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Sam Bachman – HLD (13) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Kirby Yates – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- That’s back-to-back great outings from Sam Bachman, but Kirby Yates continues to get the ninth. Yates converted here but did give up a double and did not strike anyone out.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Morris | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Travis Adams | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Andrew Morris continues to impress, although I have my doubts about his success long term (best case feels like he’s Hunter Gaddis 2.0). Travis Adams may not be far behind him either.
ATL 1 – STL 2
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Victor Mederos | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Didier Fuentes – BS (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Tyler Kinley | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Danny Young – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Victor Mederos gives the Braves yet another intriguing relief option, with his changeup being elite and his cutter being plus as well…oh, and he sits at 99 MPH with his four-seamer. Good find by the Braves here after the Angels DFA’d him in March.
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| George Soriano | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Justin Bruihl | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Ryne Stanek | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
| JoJo Romero – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Riley O’Brien – SV (23) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- This was a pretty dominant outing from an embattled bullpen, finished off by Riley O’Brien, who did not have his best stuff (down 1 MPH). Baldwin just missed tying the game with a home run (would have been a HR in 12/30 parks), and I’m pretty sure this is not the first time I’ve said this about an O’Brien save.
TOR 5 – SDP 3
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Fluharty – W (4) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Chad Dallas – HLD (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Jeff Hoffman – HLD (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers – HLD (19) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Louis Varland – SV (19) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Louis Varland got two outs before getting Singled Out as the lineup turned over to the top. I don’t think there’s anything to be worried about, but he has been getting hit around a bit more recently.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jhony Brito | 2.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Wandy Peralta | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Ron Marinaccio | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Meh.
ARI 9 – LAD 3
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brandyn Garcia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Drey Jameson | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Brandyn Garcia has developed into one of the best left-handed relievers in baseball, as the sweeper has been phenomenal, but the sinker had a little extra juice here, sitting at 98.3 MPH. He should be on your radar if he isn’t already.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Will Klein – L (4) | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Brock Stewart | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Edgardo Henriquez | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jack Dreyer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Evan Phillips | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Alex Vesia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- Will Klein’s fastball was down nearly 1.5 MPH, which is concerning, and he also could not command any of his secondaries.
COL 4 – SFG 3
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brennan Bernardino | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Jimmy Herget | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Antonio Senzatela – W (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Jordan Romano – HLD (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Juan Mejia – SV (4) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Jordan Romano’s fastball was down 1 MPH, and just a reminder that you don’t want to chase this.
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Smith | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Keaton Winn | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
| Sam Hentges | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Caleb Kilian – L (5) | 0.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Erik Miller | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Caleb Kilian allowed a ground-ball single, a walk, a bunt single, and a broken-bat single up the middle with the infield in here, so it’s not like he was allowing all this hard contact. That being said, he did not look his best, and with Keaton Winn back and Erik Miller pitching well again, this could shift back to a committee (although Winn didn’t exactly look great in his return).
