Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
ATL 7 – WSN 2
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Lee | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Carlos Carrasco | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- It’s cool to see Carlos Carrasco still kicking around at age 39, but the stuff has diminished, and he can’t be more than a mop-up guy at this point.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Richard Lovelady | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Cionel Pérez – L (3) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Gus Varland | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Julian Fernández | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Gus Varland didn’t have his best stuff or command here, leaving pitches over the middle of the plate, and the Braves took advantage of his mistakes.
MIL 4 – DET 5
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aaron Ashby | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Grant Anderson | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 75% CSW |
| Trevor Megill – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Angel Zerpa – BS (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Abner Uribe – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Trevor Megill’s fastball was down in the 96 MPH range again, and it’s now looking like just an average fastball. The curveballs still great, but an average fastball with his command is not something to get excited about. The results have been better recently, I guess, but that fastball worries me.
- Abner Uribe had been looking good in this outing until Torkelson hammered a sinker up in the zone for a walk off HR, but I still think Uribe is the better option to close for the Brewers at the current moment.
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Holton | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Burch Smith | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Brant Hurter – W (2) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- It’s been a while since we’ve seen Burch Smith, and to his credit, at age 36, he still has average (maybe better) stuff and could stick in this bullpen for a while.
PHI 7 – CHC 8
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Shugart | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Orion Kerkering | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Brad Keller | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| José Alvarado | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Tanner Banks – L (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Brad Keller has had a tough time missing bats all season, and not getting even a called strike in this one, while also allowing a HR is somewhat concerning. The stuff has just been about average for him this year, so maybe this is just who he is.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hoby Milner – HLD (2) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Jacob Webb – BS (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Caleb Thielbar – BS (1) | 0.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Riley Martin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Javier Assad – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Caleb Thielbar allowed a home run and then left the game with a hamstring injury. We are still waiting to hear the severity, but if he goes on the IL, this bullpen is really going to find a way to piece together something for the next two weeks or so. Some combination of Jacob Webb and Riley Martin could factor in, or Ben Brown just closes out the last 2-3 innings of games, maybe.
SDP 10 – COL 8
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adrian Morejon | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Ron Marinaccio – W (1) | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Mason Miller – SV (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- No K’s, and 1 hit allowed for Mason Miller with just 1 whiff? Coors really is undefeated.
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zach Agnos | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Seth Halvorsen – HLD (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Juan Mejia – HLD (1) | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Victor Vodnik – L (2) | 0.2 IP | 5 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Victor Vodnik had been better at Coors than on the road, leading up to this game at least. He just left a lot of pitches over the middle of the plate, and the Padres took advantage.
CHW 4 – ARI 1
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Taylor – W (1) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez – SV (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
- Grant Taylor getting normal usage and dominating. We love to see it. The plan for him still feels unclear, but if he continues to enter the 7th inning or later of close games, he’ll rise up the SV+HLD rankings.
- This was better from Seranthony Domínguez; the command wasn’t terrible, and the fastball looked good. Can we get some consistency now?
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kevin Ginkel | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Juan Morillo | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Paul Sewald – L (3) | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Paul Sewald apparently has not been listening to my PSA about not walking the leadoff man. He walked the first two hitters before grooving a 2-2 fastball to Benintendi (the pitch couldn’t have been more middle-middle). Hopefully, this is just one bad outing, and he can shake it off and command his stuff better next time.
LAD 3 – SFG 0
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tanner Scott – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Tanner Scott gets the first save chance following Edwin Díaz landing on the IL, and I love seeing Scott so aggressive in the strike zone this year. It may limit his strikeout rate, but it will definitely improve his ratios. Now we wait to see who gets the next save chance, but the assumption has been that Scott would get the bulk of the chances moving forward.
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blade Tidwell | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Blade Tidwell is like Caleb Kilian, but maybe even more inconsistent. There could be something there, but it’s just likely to be frustrating in the short term.
NYY 4 – BOS 2
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| David Bednar – SV (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- The Red Sox lineup is so bad right now, so it’s hard to get a good read on any pitcher who faces them, so we’ll take the save from David Bednar, but also still panic because the velocity is not budging. Going from 97+ MPH to 95.5 MPH can be a pretty big deal.

| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Danny Coulombe – L (1) | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Greg Weissert – BS (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Tyler Samaniego | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Ryan Watson | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Danny Coulombe had a hard time finding an interested team this offseason, and it’s pretty apparent the stuff has taken a hit to where he’s now an average/slightly below average reliever. I’d rather see Eduardo Rivera in this bullpen full-time at this point or even Tyler Samaniego get a longer look.
MIN 8 – NYM 10
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Morris – L (1) | 2.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Anthony Banda | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Andrew Morris throws six pitches, and while his four-seamer and sinker are pretty good, he doesn’t have a standout offspeed offering. The sweeper might be ok,
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tobias Myers | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| David Peterson | 3.1 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Craig Kimbrel | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Huascar Brazobán – BS (2) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Devin Williams – W (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- What a weird ninth inning for the Mets here. Devin Williams was supposed to start the inning, but instead Huascar Brazobán took the mound by accident and had to pitch to one batter. Williams then came in, and allowed three hits and a run, which is obviously not what we wanted to see after his last couple of outings. There is some good news, though, as the command was better, but more importantly, his changeup looked like his changeup of old. That has me feeling a little bit better about him moving forward (and the fact that the Mets don’t have an alternative closer option), but he needs to have a good weekend/week and build some positive momentum.

PIT 1 – TEX 6
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evan Sisk | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Justin Lawrence | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Yohan Ramírez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Evan Sisk’s mediocre four-seamer was responsible for four whiffs here, which is maybe a testament to how hitters need to respect his sweeper. He’s not someone to target in holds leagues yet, but there are pieces here that could translate soon.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gavin Collyer | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Jalen Beeks | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 62% CSW |
| Jakob Junis | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Peyton Gray | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Peyton Gray made his debut here, and while this line looks great and his minor league numbers look great, I’m not sure there’s anything here to be excited about. The fastball isn’t great, and while the changeup does appear ot be a legit plus pitch, I’m not sure the fastball is good enough to keep him around long term. All of his whiffs came on changeups to Konor Griffin, who’s been struggling mightily at the MLB level.
