Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
TBR 1 – CLE 3
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Casey Legumina | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Good to see Casey Legumina latch on somewhere. Maybe the Rays can work their magic to get the most out of him.
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erik Sabrowski – HLD (12) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Cade Smith – SV (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 58% CSW |
- Cade Smith was so close to pulling off a perfect BSB leaving one fastball down in the zone and one splitter up in the zone. It feels like it’s coming together.
LAA 2 – CHW 3
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mitch Farris | 3.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 14 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Chase Silseth | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Sam Bachman – HLD (5) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Ryan Zeferjahn – BS (1) | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Drew Pomeranz – L (3) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- As we argued over whether Chase Silseth or Sam Bachman would close things out for the Angels, it was Ryan Zeferjahn who was given a two-inning save chance instead. He was so close to converting it as well, before he hit Peters on a 0-2 sweeper in the ninth and eventually gave up a two-out triple to Antonacci to tie it. Zeferjahn has the pure stuff to be a closer, but he’s still wildly inconsistent.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bryan Hudson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Tyler Davis | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Seranthony Domínguez was daring the Angels lineup to hit his fastball here, and they didn’t, so we’ll take it.
SEA 5 – MIN 3
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eduard Bazardo | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Jose A. Ferrer | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Matt Brash | 0.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | ||
| Gabe Speier | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Cooper Criswell – W (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Andrés Muñoz – SV (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
- Matt Brash left with an injury, but it doesn’t seem to be a major concern
- Andrés Muñoz was able to dominate with his slider here despite only throwing 3/15 pitches in the zone, and his fastball velo being down almost 2 MPH (it was cold in Minnesota).
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Banda | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Eric Orze – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Taylor Rogers | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
- Nice we got another Eric Orze save chance! But he walked the first batter on four pitches…This is why I have trust issues with splitter heavy relievers. Maybe someday he’ll be the answer, but it’s not right now.
NYY 0 – TEX 3
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brent Headrick | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Jake Bird | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Tim Hill | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Fernando Cruz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Fernando Cruz is probably the best case scenario for Orze, and even with all the swing and miss, you are always going to be dealing with a high WHIP due to the walk rate. I guess if you pair someone like Cruz with someone like Taylor Clarke, you probably get a pretty good pair of relievers in the aggregate.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jacob Latz – SV (2) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- I was a little concerned when Jacob Latz entered in the 8th inning here, but figured at least he was in to face the top of the Yankees lineup. But then he stayed in for the ninth to pick up his second consecutive save. Even over the two innings, his stuff was still way up again, and this is definitely something to get excited about. I had a lot of questions about dropping Jeff Hoffman for Latz this week, and after this game, it’s safe to say I would definitely be on board with that move.
BOS 1 – TOR 8
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greg Weissert | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jovani Morán | 2.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Garrett Whitlock | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
- The good news for Garrett Whitlock was that his fastball velo was up here, much closer to where he was at last season. But he only generated one whiff (questionable check swing), and he also hung a slider that Valenzuela took deep for his second career HR.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Braydon Fisher – W (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Tommy Nance | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Joe Mantiply | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Spencer Miles | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Ugh, the Red Sox lineup even made Spencer Miles look great.
MIA 3 – LAD 2
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Nardi – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| John King – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Calvin Faucher – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Calvin Faucher certainly made things interesting after walking the leadoff guy, but eventually got Freddie Freeman to ground into a (unique) double play with the bases loaded to end the game. Probably best to avoid this bullpen until Pete Fairbanks returns.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Vesia | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Will Klein – L (2) | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Kyle Hurt | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Will Klein got Singled Out here (I mean seriously, that Sanoja game-winning single?), but otherwise the stuff looked great as usual, as the numbers state. It looks like anyone could be in line to close out games in this bullpen until Edwin Díaz returns, so guys like Klein and maybe even Kyle Hurt could be useful in NL-only formats.
CHC 5 – SDP 4
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Corbin Martin | 0.0 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Ben Brown – HLD (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Hoby Milner – SV (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
- I feel like it was kind of rude to allow Ben Brown to start the ninth inning, let him get two quick outs, and then pull him for Hoby Milner to get the final out (Sheets was pinch-hitting for Andujar, but then Laureano pinch-hit for the pinch-hitter Sheets). Brown only needed 11 pitches to get five outs, and stuck to his sinker and curveball here (he did leave a curve to Tatis that he just missed hitting out for his first HR of the season).
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adrian Morejon – L (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Bradgley Rodriguez | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Jason Adam | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Mason Miller | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- All of these lines are annoying for one reason or another, and we should expect better from this whole group moving forward (having a real LF could have helped the cause here, too).
COL 13 – CIN 2
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brennan Bernardino | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Juan Mejia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 60% CSW |
| Jimmy Herget | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 9 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Juan Mejia has been looking much better lately, shaking off the post-WBC rust. Still not looking to chase Rockies relievers at the moment.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luis Mey | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Jose Franco | 3.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jose Trevino | 1.0 IP | 5 ER | 6 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
- Luis Mey is back up with the big league, making his season debut here, and the stuffs never been in question, right? The command was all over the place, especially with the fastball, so until he can fix that, he’s still just pre 2025 Abner Uribe (stuff-wise they are near identical).
STL 5 – PIT 4
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryne Stanek | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| JoJo Romero – HLD (7) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| George Soriano – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 7 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Riley O’Brien – SV (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- How much longer are the Cardinals going to continue to let Ryne Stanek do this? I guess it’s true, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks (I was wrong to believe so, and apologize for any Stanek excitement from earlier in the season).
- Not the best stuff from Riley O’Brien here, but he survived the outing (thank you, Mr. Church) and now sits alone in third place on the save leaderboard with eight.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evan Sisk | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Chris Devenski | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Dennis Santana | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Yohan Ramírez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Interesting to see Dennis Santana in the 8th down a run, with Yohan Ramírez then pitching the ninth with the score remaining the same. Ramírez has better stuff and has been the better pitcher this year, while Santana’s stuff was down again here.
WSN 14 – NYM 2
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cionel Pérez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Paxton Schultz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| PJ Poulin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Nothing to see here.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sean Manaea | 2.2 IP | 6 ER | 7 H | 2 BB | 4 K | 8 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Carl Edwards Jr. Jr. | 2.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 6 K | 11 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
- Or here (Edwards Jr. was DFA’d after this).
DET 3 – ATL 4
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Finnegan – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Kenley Jansen – L (2) | 0.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- After a leadoff walk (has no one learned?), Kenley Jansen grooved a cutter middle middle that Olson destroyed for a walk-off HR. Over his past 6 games, Jansen has allowed 7 hits and 4 earned runs (2 HR), with just a 3/3 K-BB ratio. Not great, but I don’t think he’s on the hot seat yet.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Lee | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 10 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Reynaldo López – W (2) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Dylan Lee is back from the paternity list and dominating per usual. He may be the best left-handed reliever in baseball right now (at least top five).
ARI 6 – MIL 2
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kevin Ginkel – W (1) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Juan Morillo – HLD (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Taylor Clarke – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Paul Sewald | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
- Taylor Clarke has quietly put together a nice year again here in Arizona (I’m not sure why KC gave up on him?), and while the upside is limited, he is going to give you WHIP help as he does not walk anyone. As I mentioned above, he can be a good option in holds leagues if you roster someone like Fernando Cruz or Aaron Ashby.
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DL Hall | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Brian Fitzpatrick | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Grant Anderson | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- With Angel Zerpa out for a while, the Brewers need to find another lefty they can trust in this pen. I like what I see from Drohan in a relief role, and DL Hall has flashed in spurts before (not so much recently). Brian Fitzpatrick is a new option, and he was dominating AAA before his call-up, but he looks more like a potential Hall or Ashby replacement than someone who can pitch the 7th or 8th inning up two runs.
KCR 2 – ATH 5
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luinder Avila | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Alex Lange | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Mason Black | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
- These are three names that all have the stuff to pitch at the end of games, but command/consistency just isn’t there. Luinder Avila could potentially stick around in this bullpen, but he’s not as exciting as I’d hoped he would be.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joel Kuhnel | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Mark Leiter Jr. Jr. – SV (3) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Joel Kuhnel almost got the final six outs here before the laws of BABIP kicked in, although he did manage to get four whiffs here somehow (2 against Witt?). He’s back off the fantasy radar, though, as Jack Perkins appears to be the favorite for saves now.
