Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
CLE 8 – DET 2
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Festa | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Peyton Pallette | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- With Shawn Armstrong back in the picture, what does Matt Festa and Colin Holderman’s role become? No doubt that both have better stuff, but Armstrong’s deeper arsenal and command could give him an edge.
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brant Hurter | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Connor Seabold | 2.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Enmanuel De Jesús | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Not much going on here with this group.
BAL 6 – TBR 16
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cameron Foster | 1.1 IP | 4 ER | 5 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Dietrich Enns | 1.0 IP | 4 ER | 3 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Andrew Kittredge | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Weston Wilson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Dietrich Enns had a 7.3% walk rate as a reliever last season, but that number is currently 18% this year. He looks like a different guy.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Solesky – HLD (1) | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 6 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Hunter Bigge | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Chase Solesky has an interesting sweeper and changeup, but the fastballs aren’t great.
CIN 4 – PHI 5
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tejay Antone | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Graham Ashcraft – L (1) | 1.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Brock Burke | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- The Reds bullpen continues to struggle, as Graham Ashcraft left a slider up and in to Stott here, resulting in a two-run HR. Who thought Emilio Pagán would be such a big loss?
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brad Keller – BS (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| José Alvarado | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Orion Kerkering – W (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran – SV (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Jhoan Duran had some extra juice in this one, up over 1.5 MPH with every pitch in his arsenal, and was able to just bully the bottom of the Reds lineup with his velocity.
ATL 0 – MIA 12
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aaron Bummer | 1.0 IP | 6 ER | 3 H | 5 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Didier Fuentes | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Tyler Kinley | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Jorge Mateo | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Aaron Bummer walked 17 hitters all of last season, so this five-walk outing certainly feels like an anomaly. That said, there’s nothing to get excited about here anyway.
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| John King | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Calvin Faucher | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Lake Bachar | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 7% CSW |
- Calvin Faucher has now gone eight straight outings without allowing an earned run. The stuff with his pitch mix looks strong; he just needs the consistent command to go with it.
NYM 16 – WSN 7
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Austin Warren | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Brooks Raley – HLD (7) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Tobias Myers – BS (1) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
| Luke Weaver | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Huascar Brazobán – W (3) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Craig Kimbrel | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Brooks Raley had a 6% walk rate last year, but the command has been shaky lately. Hopefully just a blip and nothing more.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PJ Poulin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Mitchell Parker | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Orlando Ribalta | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Gus Varland | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Paxton Schultz – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 6 ER | 5 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Jorbit Vivas | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
- Paxton Schultz probably shouldn’t have been pitching three days in a row.
TOR 6 – NYY 7
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Braydon Fisher | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Adam Macko – HLD (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Yariel Rodriguez – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 4 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Jeff Hoffman | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Adam Macko has pretty good stuff. Is the command going to be good enough, though?
- Jeff Hoffman just can’t stop allowing hits, and while it’s not all his fault, the single here came on a middle-middle slider he hung on a 3-2 count.
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paul Blackburn – W (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Fernando Cruz – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 48% CSW |
| David Bednar – SV (11) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- This should have been another blown save for David Bednar, but Springer was able to bail him out here, so he lives to close another day. If Springer didn’t swing at a 3-0 splitter out of the zone, we could be talking about Fernando Cruz as the next in line for saves here. Cruz has some of the most volatile command out there, so I don’t love the idea of him as a full-time closer, but this bullpen doesn’t have much competition unless Camilo Doval can show some consistency. This was the worst I’ve seen Bednar’s command in some time, though, and he’s likely on some kind of hot seat right now.
BOS 3 – KCR 1
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Slaten – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Garrett Whitlock – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Aroldis Chapman – SV (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- This is going to be how the Red Sox win games this year, I guess. Starting pitcher allows 3 or fewer runs through six innings and gets the ball to Slaten, Whitlock, and Chapman. This trio is rock solid at the end of games.
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Lange | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| John Schreiber | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Steven Cruz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- John Schreiber got his revenge game in here against the team that traded him, but Steven Cruz still is the one who catches my eye here. It’s hard to quit that fastball.
HOU 3 – MIN 6
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jayden Murray | 1.1 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| AJ Blubaugh | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Why Jayden Murray is on the roster and not Logan VanWey makes no sense to me.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Simeon Woods Richardson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Andrew Morris – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Justin Topa | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Eric Orze – W (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez – HLD (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Taylor Rogers – SV (1) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- It took him til May 18th, but Taylor Rogers finally picked up his first save of the season here. The Twins now have eight different relievers with one save this season, with no one having more than two. Anthony Banda is the next man up, as he still has zero saves.
MIL 9 – CHC 3
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shane Drohan – W (2) | 4.1 IP | 0 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 5 K | 10 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Shane Drohan looks really good out of the bullpen for the Brewers, and I wonder if he’d be a better rotation option than some of the guys they’ve been starting or considering to start. I feel like, regardless of role, he’s worth a look in deeper holds leagues at the moment to see how things play out. Harrison and Drohan are turning into dudes while Durbin holds a 37 wRC+.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethan Roberts | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Ty Blach | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Ty Blach, that’s a name I have not heard in a while. Still pretty Blaaaach.
TEX 6 – COL 7
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peyton Gray | 2.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Jalen Beeks | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Gavin Collyer | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Cole Winn | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Jakob Junis | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Gavin Collyer was pitching back-to-back games here, and it showed as his stuff was down. Don’t judge him on this outing.
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaden Hill – HLD (9) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Victor Vodnik | 0.0 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Juan Mejia – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- This might do it for Victor Vodnik’s chance at consistent high-leverage work. Senzatela and Juan Mejia have easily passed him by, and it looks like Jaden Hill has also.
ATH 1 – LAA 2
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Bachman | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Ryan Zeferjahn | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Chase Silseth – W (1) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Yea, this was due for Ryan Zeferjahn, who has never been one for consistency and had been pitching way too well lately. He had no sinker command here and, for whatever reason, decided not to throw any four-seamers here (24% usage rate on the year). Luckily, Chase Silseth was able to bail him out with a double play ball to get out of the inning, but this certainly isn’t helping Zeferjahns cement his status as the team’s closer (especially with how great Sam Bachman has looked).
LAD 0 – SDP 1
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Hurt | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Kyle Hurt is due for some negative regression, but I don’t think he’s going to completely collapse and get sent down (unless by some miracle everyone is healthy in this bullpen). I want to see the slider a little bit more. I know the changeup is his bread and butter, but the slider probably deserves more love than a 4% usage rate.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jason Adam – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Mason Miller – SV (15) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Mason Miller now has five walks over his past four outings, and I think we are going to see hitters be more patient with him moving forward (as they should be). He’s still the best reliever in baseball, but he’s looking more human each outing it feels.
SFG 2 – ARI 12
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JT Brubaker | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Ryan Borucki | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Ryan Borucki has settled in lately, but the Giants may have too many lefties in the pen right now. Between Borucki and Sam Hentges, one may need to go eventually.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Thompson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Brandyn Garcia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Jonathan Loáisiga has now gone a month without a save or hold, but the stuff still looks fine. I’d just like to see some more swing and miss (as has been the case with Loáisiga’s career).
CHW 1 – SEA 6
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brandon Eisert | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Jordan Hicks | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Trevor Richards | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- A good Jordan Hicks outing despite his fastball velo being at 97.5 MPH? Well, he threw his sweeper 12/18 times (67%), which is way more than his typical split (34%). I mentioned this the other day, but if he can start throwing that sweeper more, maybe he becomes relevant again.
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eduard Bazardo – HLD (8) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| José A. Ferrer – HLD (5) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Andrés Muñoz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Andrés Muñoz looked great here (outside of the slider he hung to Kelenic) in a relatively low-leverage outing. He only throws about one per game, but that changeup can be so nasty. I’d love to see him trust it a little bit more.
