Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
CHW 8 – BAL 2
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chris Murphy | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Grant Taylor – W (4) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Brandon Eisert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Grant Taylor didn’t get the 9th here, but he was fantastic in the 7th and 8th, so that’s still a win (plus Seranthony worked the 6th yesterday).
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Wolfram – L (2) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Rico Garcia | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Yennier Cano | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Josh Walker | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Yennier Cano didn’t have his best stuff here; it was actually way down, and we didn’t see any breakers from him.
PIT 11 – PHI 7
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evan Sisk – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Gregory Soto – HLD (7) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Yohan Ramírez – HLD (0) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Mason Montgomery | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Gregory Soto working the eighth inning and struggling is not what his managers want to see after a tumultuous past few weeks from him to begin with. The good news is that the stuff looked fine, and he was tasked with facing Harper and Marsh. There’s also no competition here right now, at least until Mason Montgomery stabilizes.
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seth Johnson | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Tim Mayza | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Chase Shugart | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Seth Johnson’s fastball can be so good, as it was here, but it’s still a bit too inconsistent, and how good are the breakers really?
DET 7 – NYY 3
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drew Sommers | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Drew Anderson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Drew Anderson’s fastball was up over 97 MPH here, which, if he can just live there consistently, will be good enough to work with his changeup and curveball.
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yerry De los Santos | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Tim Hill | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Jake Bird | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Ryan Yarbrough | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Brent Headrick | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- Camilo Doval led with his slider here, throwing just 6 fastballs (4 cutters, 2 sinkers) with 8 sliders (and a changeup). I mean, it is a great pitch so long as hitters aren’t sitting on it in the zone, and his HR/FB rate with the pitch is currently 100%, so that has to change, right?
NYM 1 – TOR 2
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Austin Warren | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Joey Gerber | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
- Joey Gerber’s cutter/four-seam mix comes off as bland, but that cutter is really, really good. If he could find one more pitch to work off that (changeup, or even a slider/sweeper), we may have something here.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Fluharty – HLD (11) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 100% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers – HLD (18) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Louis Varland – SV (17) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Louis Varland’s fastball velocity was down about 1 MPH here, and with the heavy first-half workload, you wonder if he’s about to hit a fatigue wall as we enter the second half. I’m not concerned yet, but it will be worth monitoring moving forward.
WSN 3 – BOS 6
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Danny Coulombe – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
| Tyron Guerrero – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Garrett Whitlock – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Tyron Guerrero gave up an infield hit (maybe an error on Durbin), but otherwise was electric here, averaging 101.1 MPH on his sinker and getting a whiff/strikeout with his slider. Maybe the most underrated reliever in baseball right now.
TEX 6 – CLE 3
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chris Paddack | 4.0 IP | 2 ER | 7 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 9 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Robby Ahlstrom – W (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Jakob Junis – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jacob Latz – SV (17) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Jacob Latz was back after a couple of days off and went two innings, averaging 96 MPH here, as he’s just been a machine since mid-late April. It takes a lot of top closers 20+ pitches to get through an inning of work, but Latz just needed 17 pitches to get six outs here, and this isn’t the first time he’s done this. He recently talked about how Drivelines helped him figure out his fastball and the importance of vertical break, and the changes have led to elite results.

| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colin Holderman | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Erik Sabrowski | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Matt Festa | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Erik Sabrowski’s fastball was down a MPH here, and he had no command of it, so again, the questions about him returning from the IL too soon come to mind. As long as he is healthy, he should turn things around, but this has been very uncharacteristic of him since his return from the IL.
CIN 3 – MIL 5
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Petty – BS (1) | 1.2 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Sam Moll – L (6) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Tejay Antone | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- This bullpen is still struggling to find any semblance of consistency from any one member, and while they do get their closer back today, Emilio Pagán does currently hold a 6.43 ERA and 1.43 WHIP on the season.
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chad Patrick | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Aaron Ashby – W (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Trevor Megill – SV (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Chad Patrick’s fastball was up 2.2 MPH, and that helps bring his stuff into the above-average range, but while we’ve seen this velo increase at times, we haven’t seen it consistently.
SDP 2 – CHC 3
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Hart | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Bradgley Rodriguez | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Adrian Morejon | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Jason Adam – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Mason Miller | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Jason Adam threw just one fastball here (it was up 1.5 MPH) in this 24-pitch outing, and despite the line, it really wasn’t all his fault, as he probably should not have started the ninth inning. Most of the stuff has deteriorated, but the slider still looks great, at least.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gavin Hollowell | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Caleb Thielbar | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Trent Thornton – W (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
- Caleb Thielbar only threw 14 pitches here and just 2 fastballs, but it’s still down below 92 MPH, which concerns me. They are going to need him to figure things out.
MIN 5 – HOU 4
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Travis Adams | 1.2 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez – SV (9) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Yoendrys Gómez came in to get the final out here, but allowed a home run to Smith before getting Loperfido to ground out. We’ll take the relatively cheap save, however, and the usage continues to point to him finishing games more often than not.
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nate Pearson | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Miguel Ullola | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- Miguel Ullola made his debut here, and yep, this is legit. He’s basically what they have gotten from Bryan Abreu over the past three seasons, and I could see him quickly working his way into a high-leverage role here, given their desperate need for right-handed relief help.

MIA 10 – COL 7
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michael Petersen – HLD (13) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Calvin Faucher | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Pete Fairbanks has had issues in Colorado before, so this is not a surprise, but it also really wasn’t as bad as it looks (the double was a ground ball up the middle).
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Victor Vodnik – L (3) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Antonio Senzatela | 0.2 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Zach Agnos | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
- Run away.
LAD 9 – ATH 4
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Hurt | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 53% CSW |
| Jonathan Hernández | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Jack Dreyer | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Not sure why Jonathan Hernández is still here, but the Dodgers should be getting Evan Phillips and Edwin Díaz back within the next month, which doesn’t even seem fair.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Krook | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Justin Sterner | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 53% CSW |
| Kade Morris | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- Justin Sterner’s velocity was up a MPH here, but the command was still wonky, and overall, the stuff just doesn’t get you excited like it does with an Alvarado.
LAA 2 – SEA 6
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José A. Ferrer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- José A. Ferrer went sinker on 18/19 pitches here, which goes to show how great his sinker is.
SFG 4 – ARI 5
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Hentges | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| JT Brubaker | 3.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Blegh.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kevin Ginkel | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Brandyn Garcia – HLD (8) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Paul Sewald – SV (19) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- The home run to Ramos here was actually a great pitch (an 0-1 sweeper down and way, out of the zone), but here we have another shaky Paul Sewald outing, so I understand having some concerns. I’m not overly worried yet; the stuff is still as good as it has been, and this feels more fluky than anything.
