Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
CHC 1 – PIT 2
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trent Thornton – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Jacob Webb | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Jacob Webb was throwing about 2 MPH harder here, and if somehow this velo bump sticks, Webb can be a real problem for hitters. He’s the second-best reliever in this bullpen right now, at least until Maton and/or Thielbar can get back on track.

| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wilber Dotel – W (1) | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Gregory Soto – SV (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Wilber Dotel located well against a Cubs lineup that is struggling at the moment. Gregory Soto’s command was improved from Sunday’s outing as well, which was nice to see.
TBR 7 – BAL 9
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter Bigge – BS (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Casey Legumina | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Bryan Baker | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Ian Seymour | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Jesse Scholtens – L (3) | 1.1 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
- Six different relievers here in this extra innings game, and at least we got a clean ninth from Bryan Baker, who was throwing in the mid-97 MPH range.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Wolfram | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Yennier Cano | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Anthony Nunez – BS (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Rico Garcia | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Tyler Wells | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Dietrich Enns – W (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Rico Garcia didn’t have his best stuff or command, but grinded out two innings without allowing a run. He’s come back down to earth recently, but he’s still the top reliever in this bullpen.
MIN 1 – CHW 3
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Taylor – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Bryan Hudson – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez – SV (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- This is probably the late-inning usage we are going to see more often than not from the White Sox. Seranthony Domínguez may eventually implode and give up the role, but it’s going to take a lot, given how much they are paying him.
STL 1 – MIL 5
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brycen Mautz | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Decent stuff from Brycen Mautz here, who should get a chance to start at some point this season.
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aaron Ashby | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- No vulture win for Aaron Ashby, who still has eight wins and just one hold (and one blown save) on the year. The holds will come; he’s seeing later innings usage lately.
NYY 4 – KCR 3
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brent Headrick | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jake Bird | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Tim Hill – W (2) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| David Bednar – SV (12) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- David Bednar did not strike anyone out here, but I’m here for this pitch mix (plus his fastball was up 1 MPH). He was fastball/splitter only (trying to BSB, the command wasn’t perfect though), and I’m ok with him mixing in the curveball here and there, he just can’t be throwing it 30%+ right now.
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daniel Lynch IV | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Lucas Erceg – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- I know the Royals have no relievers they can trust outside of maybe Daniel Lynch IV, but they really need to consider removing Lucas Erceg from the closer role and maybe just going with some sort of matchup-based committee approach? This bullpen is at Twins/Nationals levels of questionable after all. I get there were two infield hits involved, but this was the bottom of the Yankees lineup here (Goldschmidt, Jazz, Vople, Escarra, Caballero). If Quatraro wants to continue with the sole closer approach, then he has to go with Daniel Lynch IV at this point.
CIN 7 – NYM 2
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brock Burke | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Tejay Antone | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Sam Moll | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Graham Ashcraft | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Sam Moll’s line was definitely inflated by the fact that he was facing three hitters who should probably be at AAA right now.
- Graham Ashcraft back in the ninth inning? I mean, why not at this point? Everyone deserves a third chance (FWIW, his stuff looked great here).
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Austin Warren | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jonathan Pintaro | 2.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Tobias Myers | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
- This was a pretty dominant stretch from this bullpen here with nine strikeouts over the final 5.2 innings and just one hit allowed. Austin Warren just spammed sweepers (21/36), and why not, as it’s his best pitch. Jonathan Pintaro had the same approach, spamming his cutter (25/40) since it’s clearly his best pitch. Tobias Myers went fastball/splitter, and I like that mix from him, especially in shorter stints, allowing his fastball velocity to push closer to 94 MPH.
ARI 6 – SFG 2
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Brandyn Garcia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Brandyn Garcia is looking like a modern-day Taylor Rogers, a sinker/slider lefty who gets way more called strikes than whiffs. That’s cool with me and should keep Garcia in this bullpen for the foreseeable future.
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joel Peguero | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Sam Hentges | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| JT Brubaker | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Joel Peguero was due for an outing like this, but at least the velocity is still up in the 100 MPH range. He threw just three sliders, two for balls, and the one he threw in the zone was a 0-0 pitch to Fernandez that grounded down the third baseline for a double.
WSN 10 – CLE 2
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PJ Poulin | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- PJ Poulin is back and is still not interesting with that fastball as bad as it is.
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Festa | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Logan Allen | 4.0 IP | 0 ER | 5 H | 1 BB | 7 K | 6 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Not sure what Logan Allen’s role will be moving forward, but with no Sabrowski, I could see Allen transitioning into a lefty relief role with his sweeper dominating lefties.
PHI 3 – SDP 0
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Orion Kerkering – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Brad Keller – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran – SV (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Not perfect, but we will gladly take the result from Jhoan Duran. The first two outs were hit well, both going to the warning track with xBA’s above .330. The stuff looked good, though, and until the results begin unraveling, I’m not going to worry.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jeremiah Estrada | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Yuki Matsui | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Yuki Matsui’s fastball is what surprises me the most in this resurgence. He’s still averaging just 92 MPH, but with almost 21″ iVB it’s playing up and pairing nicely with his splitter.
HOU 9 – TEX 0
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Okert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Alimber Santa | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- This Rangers lineup is terrible right now, but it’s still cool to see Alimber Santa make his debut to close out a combined no-hitter. Santa’s (feels weird to type) sweeper is really good, but that fastball looks very vulnerable. He looks like a better version of Bryan Abreu, but I’m not sure that means he should be a mainstay on this roster moving forward.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peyton Gray | 2.0 IP | 3 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Chris Martin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Sam Haggerty | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Sam Haggerty having a better stat line than every other Rangers pitcher checks out.
MIA 8 – TOR 2
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lake Bachar | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Andrew Nardi – HLD (8) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| John King | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Cade Gibson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Can we just get some sort of consistency from Andrew Nardi, please? It’s been such a roller coaster ride.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Fluharty | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Adam Macko | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Tanner Andrews | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Tanner Andrews made his debut, and he looks like an OK depth piece, not much else.
COL 3 – LAD 5
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Juan Mejia – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino – L (3) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Jaden Hill | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Welinton Herrera | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Juan Mejia gets a sniff at the closer role, and now we’ve had back-to-back rough outings. This is why we can’t trust a Rockies
relieverpitcher. Antonio Senzatela is due for some regression, but he appears to be the last man standing in that closer picture. - I’ve been excited to see Welinton Herrera, but I thought the fastball was better than this (Fangraphs gives him a 60/70 grade, BA 60, MLB Pipeline 60). I guess he was averaging 96 MPH at AAA, so maybe this was just part of MLB debut jitters.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Hurt – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 58% CSW |
| Will Klein – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Alex Vesia – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Blake Treinen – SV (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 75% CSW |
- Kyle Hurt ruined the Dodgers bullpen scoreless streak with the HR he allowed to Tovar (hung a changeup middle middle 0-1), but other than that, this bullpen was dominant once again. Must be nice for Roberts to just be able to trust any reliever in any spot right now.
SEA 9 – ATH 2
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bryce Miller – W (1) | 5.0 IP | 2 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 13 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Easily the best starting pitcher to show up in the RP Roundup this year.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jack Perkins | 4.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 7 K | 9 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Joel Kuhnel | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Jack Perkins getting a starter’s workload here, throwing 63 pitches and almost finishing five innings. The first four innings were great, before he eventually ran into trouble. Perkins does possess a starter repertoire and, until this season, was viewed as a starter, so maybe the team would consider moving him back into the rotation eventually?
