Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
PIT 4 – TOR 1
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yohan Ramírez – HLD (3) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Mason Montgomery – HLD (6) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Gregory Soto – SV (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Good to see Mason Montgomery bounce back after his last couple of outings here, and he looked much better than Gregory Soto, who struggled to locate his fastball. I don’t think we are close to Montgomery taking the closer role from Soto yet, but I wouldn’t be totally shocked if it happened in June.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Fluharty | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Chase Lee | 1.2 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Braydon Fisher | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Yariel Rodriguez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Mason Fluharty is like some three-outcome pitcher where everything is either a hit, a walk, or a strikeout. The BABIP will come back down to earth, so let’s work on getting that walk rate back down to under 10%, and we should be ok.
DET 3 – BAL 5
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Will Vest – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Kyle Finnegan – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Kenley Jansen – L (3) | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- What a mess for Kenley Jansen here, as he got Alonso to pop up to end the 8th, then got a quick out in the 9th before issuing back-to-back walks. It looked like he’d get out of it as he then got Jackson to pop up, and had Cowser down 0-2 when he decided to throw him a sinker over the middle of the plate that looked pretty straight. I have no idea why that was the pitch selection there, but Jansen also did not execute it as intended. The good news is Kyle Finnegan is still broken, and Will Vest blew his save chance earlier in the walk, so Jansen shouldn’t be losing this job anytime soon.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keegan Akin | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Dietrich Enns – W (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- At least Grant Wolfram is back, right?
DET 4 – BAL 1
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Holton – HLD (4) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Drew Anderson – SV (2) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 4 K | 8 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Drew Anderson is back in the bullpen and looked great here with the fastball velocity still up and the changeup still nasty as ever. The curveball has made strides, too, and could be a legitimate third offering.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Kittredge | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Albert Suárez | 4.0 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Nothing to see here.
MIN 6 – BOS 5
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Banda – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Eric Orze – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 60% CSW |
| Taylor Rogers – HLD (6) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez – HLD (4) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Travis Adams – SV (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Let’s keep it rolling, Twins! Now that Adams is crossed off the list, we should see a Kendry Rojas save and/or a Simeon Woods Richardson save next.
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Danny Coulombe | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Tyron Guerrero – L (1) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Garrett Whitlock – BS (1) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Jovani Morán | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Greg Weissert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Ryan Watson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Danny Coulombe is back, and his velocity is down 3 MPH as he’s now sitting 87 with his fastball. Just bring Samaniego back.
CLE 3 – PHI 1
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colin Holderman – HLD (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Tim Herrin – HLD (5) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis – HLD (6) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 56% CSW |
| Cade Smith – SV (18) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Hunter Gaddis has no reeled off six straight scoreless outings, which is great to see. The changeup usage has been way up in these outings, so I think we can attribute that to his recent success.
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Mayza | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Jonathan Bowlan | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Tanner Banks | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- The HR to Bazzana that Jonathan Bowlan gave up wasn’t even a bad pitch (fastball in, off the plate), but it’s still frustrating to see. He’s been much better for the most part over his past seven outings, regardless.
TBR 0 – NYY 2
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kevin Kelly – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Kevin Kelly got the call in a tie game in the ninth inning over Bryan Baker (Kelly had thrown just 7 pitches in the eighth), and it did not work out for the Rays as they had hoped. Judge just missed taking Baker deep on Friday, but he did not miss here as he jumped on a first-pitch sinker from Kelly to walk things off.
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fernando Cruz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Tim Hill – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Both these outings were a bit rocky, but neither reliever allowed a run (thanks to Bellinger), and Tim Hill even managed two strikeouts.
NYM 0 – MIA 4
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Huascar Brazobán | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Brooks Raley | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Luke Weaver | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Devin Williams – L (2) | 0.1 IP | 4 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Just when you think Devin Williams was in the clear, we get this outing. A lead-off double by Morel and sac bunt started the inning, before a walk to Hicks (more or less intentional) and an intentional walk to Edwards loaded the bases. Williams then left an 0-1 changeup over the middle of the plate that Hernandez was sitting on. When Williams doesn’t have his fastball, things like this will happen, but I don’t see this as a major setback.
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Calvin Faucher | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| John King | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Anthony Bender | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Michael Petersen | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Pete Fairbanks had to work around some baserunners in the top of the ninth, but luckily Hicks was able to throw out Morabito stealing, and Fairbanks struck out Benge looking to end the inning with a runner on second. He’s been a bit shaky since returning from the IL, but Fairbanks is safely in the closer role here.
SEA 6 – KCR 8
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José A. Ferrer | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Cooper Criswell | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Alex Hoppe | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Blegh
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daniel Lynch IV – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| John Schreiber – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Lucas Erceg | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- Lucas Erceg started things off here, striking out Garver on a nasty 2-2 slider, before things unraveled, but he was ultimately able to finish the game with the lead intact. Daniel Lynch IV has not exactly been dominant lately as well, and the rest of this bullpen is pretty rough, so as bad as Erceg may be, he may continue acting as the Royals closer by default given the lack of alternatives.
LAD 5 – MIL 1
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Will Klein | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Tanner Scott | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- The Dodgers bullpen can roll out anyone at anytime and they just seem to dominate. This bullpen has not allowed an earned run over their past 36 innings pitched, dating back to May 13th
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shane Drohan | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 5 K | 7 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Carlos Rodríguez | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Shane Drohan gave up a leadoff triple to Tucker, followed by a home run on the very next pitch to Pages, but was dominant from that point on. The Dodgers lineup is tough, what are you going to do?
HOU 8 – CHC 5
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AJ Blubaugh | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Bryan Abreu – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Nate Pearson – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- A very interesting trio of righties here from the Astros, and yeah, Nate Pearson looked far and away better than the other two. AJ Blubaugh’s velocity is way down now, while Bryan Abreu’s velocity is still way down. Pearson has yet to strike anyone out, but the stuff looks great, so that should only be a matter of time.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethan Roberts | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Phil Maton | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Caleb Thielbar | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Phil Maton and Caleb Thielbar’s stuff were both way down yesterday, which is not what Cubs fans want to hear. Maton was at least able to locate well, whereas Thielbar, not so much.
CHW 5 – SFG 8
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Taylor | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Tyler Davis | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 6 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Brandon Eisert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- We shouldn’t be surprised that we saw Grant Taylor enter in the fifth inning, as he played the fireman role today and did the exact opposite of what he was asked to do, as he allowed a walk to load the bases before giving up a grand slam to Devers. His velocity was way down again, and if he had his normal fastball velocity, I don’t think that grand slam happens. You can stash Taylor if you want in deeper leagues, but this situation is a mess I’d rather avoid if possible (Seranthony pitched in the seventh inning?).
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keaton Winn – W (1) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Matt Gage | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Erik Miller – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Caleb Kilian – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- We got the good version of Caleb Kilian here, and he ultimately might have the best stuff in this bullpen, but it’s inconsistent. This whole bullpen is inconsistent, though, and going back to April 20th, not one reliever here holds a K-BB rate above 10% or CSW rate above 30%, with Kilian leading the pack in both categories at just 9.4% and 29.5%, respectively.
COL 1 – ARI 9
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blas Castano | 3.2 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Seth Halvorsen | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Brett Sullivan | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Brennan Bernardino has been more effective than not, and could get the Rockies a nice piece at the deadline as teams are always looking for left-handed relief help.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Clarke | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
- Classic Taylor Clarke outing here with zero whiffs but no baserunners.
ATH 5 – SDP 2
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jacob Lopez – W (4) | 4.2 IP | 1 ER | 6 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 10 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Justin Sterner – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Mark Leiter Jr. Jr. – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Hogan Harris – HLD (8) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Scott Barlow – SV (1) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- We are back to throwing darts at who may close things out in this A’s bullpen on a game-to-game basis. Maybe they should just give Barlow a chance, but not having a fastball is just asking for trouble eventually.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ron Marinaccio | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Wandy Peralta | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Bradgley Rodriguez | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- We got the good and the bad from Bradgley Rodriguez with three hits (a walk) and three strikeouts. He was Singled Out here with an opposite field flare, a bunt hit by Kurtz, and the last hit just made it past the second baseman. The stuffs still great, but he unfortunately has no pathway to holds with this bullpen at full strength.
WSN 2 – ATL 1
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Alvarez – HLD (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Gus Varland – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Richard Lovelady – HLD (4) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Orlando Ribalta – SV (2) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Gus Varland started the ninth inning here but gave up back to back singles and was pulled for Richard Lovelady, who induced a game-ending double play, but Nuñez kicked it around and got zero outs instead. After a walk, it was Orlando Ribalta’s turn to clean things up, and he was able to strike out Tromp and then broke Acuña’s bat to get the final out. No team has used multiple relievers to close things out in the ninth inning more than the Nationals this year.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Didier Fuentes | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Reynaldo López | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Carlos Carrasco | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Reynaldo López had some better velocity here, sitting at 95.8 MPH, but that’s still not ideal from him in a relief role.
TEX 1 – LAA 2
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jakob Junis | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 8 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Gavin Collyer – L (1) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Excuse me, four strikeouts and eight whiffs from Jakob Junis? I know the Angels lineup is bad, but that’s wild to me. He did only throw 7 fastballs in this 34 pitch effort, but still crazy to see that kind of swing and miss from Junis.
- Good to see Gavin Collyer back so soon, but he did a great job getting an inning-ending double play here in the ninth that was brutally butchered by Foscue and Burger and somehow led to an Angels win.
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Bachman – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 8 Whiffs | 48% CSW |
- Sam Bachman got two quick outs before allowing an oppo single, an infield single, and a walk to make things interesting here in the ninth before striking out Burger to end things. He’s still my favorite reliever to roster here, and it’s not very close.
