Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
MIA 4 – PIT 2
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Calvin Faucher – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Tyler Zuber – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks – SV (9) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Bryan Reynolds ambushed an 0-0 fastball Pete Fairbanks left down in the zone here, but that was Fairbanks only mistake in this one.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evan Sisk | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Brandan Bidois | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 6 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Isaac Mattson | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- We haven’t seen Isaac Mattson in a while, and there remains nothing to get excited about here. Maybe the changeup could be the secondary that helps him take a step forward (although the fastball has taken a step back now).
SDP 5 – BAL 2
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bradgley Rodriguez – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Jason Adam – HLD (15) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Adrian Morejon – HLD (12) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Mason Miller – SV (19) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- No whiffs from Jason Adam with a few hard-hit balls included…sigh.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rico Garcia | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Anthony Nunez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Yennier Cano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Rico Garcia not only pitching in the seventh inning down a run, but he got the bottom of the Padres lineup here. He walked Wagner and grooved a 1-0 fastball at 93.9 MPH to Duran for a two-run shot. The stuff was way down for Garcia here, and if you can still sell high on him, go for it before it’s too late.
SEA 1 – WSN 10
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José A. Ferrer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Nick Davila | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Michael Rucker | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Andrés Muñoz | 0.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Alex Hoppe | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- The big news here was that Andrés Muñoz left with lower back tightness, and while we don’t know the exact severity, Muñoz seemed to indicate it was nothing serious. Trying to figure out who would be the closer if Muñoz missed time is not as easy without Matt Brash. José A. Ferrer has struggled recently, but he has closer experience, and the team has gone to him for saves with Muñoz off in the past. My dark horse would be Alex Hoppe, but he may not be ready for that role just yet.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miles Mikolas – W (2) | 7.0 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Clayton Beeter | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Clayton Beeter’s fastball was better here than it has been recently, but the command in general is still a major question mark.
NYY 8 – TOR 3
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Hill | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Jake Bird – BS (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Brent Headrick | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Camilo Doval – W (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| David Bednar | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Camilo Doval’s best outing in a while, and what do you know, he did it throwing almost 50% sliders with not one being put in play.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spencer Miles | 2.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Mason Fluharty | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Jeff Hoffman | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Braydon Fisher – L (2) | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Tommy Nance | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- No bad BABIP luck for Jeff Hoffman here, and it’s interesting to see him leaning more sinker than four-seam as his fastball of choice here. Something to keep an eye on, but I’m not sure moving to a sinker will help his BABIP issues.
ARI 5 – CIN 3
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Juan Morillo – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Kevin Ginkel – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Paul Sewald – SV (17) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Kevin Ginkel has supplanted Juan Morillo as the top setup guy in this Diamondbacks bullpen, and I guess I get it, especially with Ginkel sitting 96.6 MPH, which is better velocity than he’s ever averaged before. It looks like he’s really back to his 2022-’24 self.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tejay Antone – BS (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Sam Moll | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Zach Maxwell – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Chris Paddack | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- I’ve been asking for Chris Paddack to be a one-inning reliever for years now, and we finally got a look at what that could look like. The velo was up 2 MPH to 95 MPH, but ideally we could get that fastball in the 96-97 range to go with his changeup and occasional cutter or curveball.
ATL 1 – NYM 8
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Dodd | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| James Karinchak | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Reynaldo López | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Anthony Molina | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- James Karinchak’s fastball was sitting closer to 96 MPH here, but the command was atrocious. Looks just like the Karinchak of old, for better or worse.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cionel Pérez | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Daniel Duarte | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| A.J. Minter | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 75% CSW |
| Huascar Brazobán | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- We saw better velocity from A.J. Minter here also, despite it being just two four-seamers. 94 MPH would bring him closer to where he was the past two years.
HOU 0 – KCR 4
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alimber Santa | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Nate Pearson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Alimber Santa threw more fastballs here than he had previously, throwing seven total, all of which were balls. That’s probably for the best if we are being honest.
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Cruz – HLD (1) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Daniel Lynch IV | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- This wasn’t a save chance (and Alex Lange was likely off), but Daniel Lynch IV acted as the closer here in a four-run game, making things look easy as he needed just eight pitches. Lange is coming off back to back loses, so this closer situation could be up in the air again.
STL 4 – MIN 5
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JoJo Romero – HLD (17) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| George Soriano – L (1) | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 9 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- George Soriano left a couple pitched up over the plate here, but 9 whiffs are impressive. This bullpen could open up for him with Romero and O’Brien struggling lately, but are the fastballs good enough?
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Banda | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Andrew Morris – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 53% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez – SV (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Good things typically happen when Yoendrys Gómez pitches in the ninth. Wetherholt just missed taking him deep, but we’ll take this line and the save from Gómez.
LAD 4 – CHW 6
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jack Dreyer | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Blake Treinen | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Jonathan Hernández | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
- Jack Dreyer gave up two home runs here on almost identical fastballs, both of which were not bad pitches, just Montgomery and Meidroth jumping on his top-of-the-zone fastball.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sean Newcomb | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Erick Fedde – W (2) | 2.2 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Grant Taylor | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez – SV (12) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- This bullpen still remains confusing as Grant Taylor entered in the 7th inning here and Seranthony Domínguez got himself another save. I still prefer Taylor, as Domínguez’s command is just all over the place and hard to trust.
PHI 0 – MIL 4
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Shugart | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Tanner Banks | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Meh
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Abner Uribe | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Aaron Ashby | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- Aaron Ashby needed this outing after the past four have been shaky. He basically just needed his sinker and curveball to dominate this Phillies lineup that has had issues with left-handed pitching.
COL 23 – ATH 9
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blas Castano | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Eiberson Castellano – SV (1) | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Eiberson Castellano made his debut here and pitched well, but unfortunately, the fastball is just not good enough to stick around, and the secondaries are average at best.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luis Medina | 1.0 IP | 6 ER | 6 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Brady Basso | 1.2 IP | 4 ER | 6 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 6 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Scott Barlow | 0.2 IP | 4 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Carlos Cortes | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
- Nope
CHC 1 – SFG 5
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colin Rea – L (5) | 4.2 IP | 4 ER | 6 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Hoby Milner | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Ethan Roberts | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
| Jacob Webb | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
- Ethan Roberts had been pitching well for the Cubs, but he had trouble with his cutter here, and his sinker isn’t exactly the answer either.
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Caleb Kilian | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Caleb Kilian is allegedly the team’s closer now, and I guess this is closer usage, working the ninth up four. The command was solid here, and while I don’t love him as a closer, there really are no alternatives here.
TBR 8 – LAA 3
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ian Seymour | 3.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 3 K | 11 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Kevin Kelly – W (4) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Craig Kimbrel | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Garrett Cleavinger – HLD (9) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Bryan Baker | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Garrett Cleavinger only threw two fastballs here, but one was at 99 MPH (the other at 98.3), so at least it’s great to see that it’s still in the tank when needed. Now let’s see that more consistently.
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Silseth | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Drew Pomeranz | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Brent Suter | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Sam Bachman – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 5 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Ryan Zeferjahn | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- This was obviously Sam Bachman’s worst outing of the season and a big step back for him, potentially entering the closer mix. Long story short, the command wasn’t great, but the two home run pitches were not pitches that should lead to home runs. Not giving up on Bachman after this, but he’s more likely to live up to his Cherry Bomb label than be the guy who had let up just one earned run since May entering this game.
TEX 6 – BOS 4
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jakob Junis – HLD (7) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jacob Latz – SV (11) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Jacob Latz just continues to be a beast, and even without his best command, he made things look easy here with basically just a fastball (21/24 four-seamers).
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greg Weissert | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Ryan Watson | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Tommy Kahnle | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Blegh
