- This isn’t the exact result we wanted or needed to see, but at least Mason Montgomery was used in a save chance and ultimately converted it. Classic bloop and a blast outcome here as he hung a curveball to Suzuki (it was a horrible pitch), but outside of that, he looked great. The control has gotten better for Montgomery as he’s not walking guys like he once did, but the command is still not ideal. That’s the only thing holding him back from being one of the elite relievers in baseball.

- Justin Slaten keeps throwing more sinkers and now has a fairly deep arsenal, which I don’t love for relievers, but it kind of works for him as all five offerings are solid or better.

- Dylan Lee left an 0-2 slider over the middle of the plate to Alonso here, his only mistake in this one. The good news here was Lee’s fastball velocity was actually up 1.5 MPH, so that’s good to see.

- Tyler Wells got the tenth inning in a tie game here and was throwing 1.6 MPH harder than usual. It didn’t lead to any strikeouts, but it’s good to see he has 95 MPH in the tank when needed.

- Steven Cruz may now be in a committee with Alex Lange for saves, which is frustrating, but at least Cruz has worked his way into the situation. His fastball was up nearly 1.5 MPH here (sitting at 99.6 MPH), but he’s still leaning on his cutter, which I feel mixed about.

- The Mets big three reliever group at the end were all showing diminished velocity here, and if I were to be worried about one in particular, it would be Luke Weaver.

- Mason Miller continues to be the ultimate set-it-and-forget-it closer and is still the number one reliever to roster (casually averaging 102.4 MPH here). The Padres have won three in a row and sit just 2 games out of the Wild Card race, so Miller and co. could stick around for a postseason run.

- Pete Fairbanks had a much-needed clean outing here, and the fastball looked great. I don’t know what to make of the cutter/slider at this point, though, as neither one has been grading out well.

- Bryan King was back throwing harder here, and it didn’t make a difference as he still struggled to get outs. This whole bullpen did, for that matter, and I am a big fan of Miguel Ullola.

- Julian Garcia was called on for the save here with Emilio Pagán getting the day off, and that’s a bit of a surprise, but Garcia does have a fun pitch mix with a high spin, almost cutter-esque fastball and a sweeper. It’s weird in a Paul Sewald way, but almost the reverse (maybe Matt Festa is a better comp)? Anyway, it could be funky enough to work is my point, so he’s someone to keep an eye on.

- Ryne Stanek’s fastball was down over a MPH here, and the stuff overall was way down. Not great timing if the Cardinals were looking to move him this week.

- This looks much more like the Mariners 2025 bullpen with the bat-missing ability from these three, and I love seeing Andrés Muñoz continue to just bully hitters with his fastball instead of leaning on the slider to do everything.

- Robby Ahlstrom’s fastball was up a MPH here (it was down a MPH last time out), and it really makes a big difference. In the 95+ MPH range, I’m in, but I don’t trust him at 93 MPH.

- Ryan Zeferjahn had been pitching well in the ninth lately, so naturally the Angels had to change that and make things complicated. I like Sam Bachman as much as the next guy, but he hadn’t pitched in a week, and they just throw him right into a save chance?

- Camilo Doval’s sinker was down 1.0 MPH here, but the location was a bit better, and he paired it well with his slider. It’s hard to give up on this Cherry Bomb but until Boone trusts him again in leverage spots, he doesn’t need to be rostered in most holds leagues.
