Brennan Bernardino, Emmanuel Clase, Hunter Gaddis, Tyler Kinley, David Robertson, Troy Taylor, Devin Williams, and Kirby Yates all had three SV+HLDs this past week.
Bernadino was placed on the IL this week and will miss the remainder of the season with an elbow injury. Clase and Gaddis keep cruising in the Guardians bullpen with Clase a regular on this list. Kinley was a fun streamer pick the past week and a half as he had some favorable road matchups but he goes back to Coors now. Yates and Robertson put together another great week in Texas, and it will be interesting to see what happens with the two this offseason. Taylor has become the second setup option in Seattle, and the rookie has intriguing stuff to become a regular on these lists moving forward.
Notes
- DL Hall, Ian Hamilton, Collin Snider, Brusdar Graterol, Aaron Bummer, Michel Otanez, José Alvarado, Aaron Ashby, José Quijada, Gus Varland, Tyler Kinley, and Troy Taylor were all added to the list this week. Hall and Ashby are back in the Brewers bullpen, where the two lefties should thrive the rest of the year. Graterol and Hamilton are back from lengthy IL stints, but I don’t see either factoring into many hold situations. Snider and Taylor have emerged as the top setup options in Seattle. Bummer and Otanez have pitched much better than their numbers show and could break out at any time. Alvarado has not allowed a run over his past six IP while striking out nine and allowing just three baserunners. Quijada, Kinley, and Varland are “closers” on bad teams, but have pitched well enough to be on the list.
- Taylor Rogers, Kyle Nicolas, Anthony Banda, Calvin Faucher, Ryne Stanek, Ryan Brasier, Ben Joyce, Tim Herrin, Ryan Fernandez, Emilio Pagán, Scott Barlow, and Tyson Miller all fell off the list this week. Rogers, Nicolas, Stanek, Brasier, Herrin, Fernandez, Pagan, and Miller fall just off the list this week, but would all be in the 100-110 range. Banda, Faucher, and Joyce landed on the IL and we likely will not see them again this season. Barlow was DFA’d by the Guardians, which isn’t too surprising considering how much better the rest of that bullpen has been.
- We have just over two weeks left to play in the regular season and both Emmanuel Clase and Ryan Helsley are tied with 44 saves on the year. It may be a stretch at this point to see one of them finish with 50, but it’s definitely still possible, especially if they can add a save or two this weekend. As far as holds go, we now have six relievers hit the 30-hold mark with Bryan Abreu still leading the way with 35.
