Wells has been pitching well as the team’s closer, but there’s definitely an argument to be made that this current version of Garcia deserved save chances as well.

So, everyone’s fastball was down here…except for Jhoan Duran, who had one of the worst outings of his career. This was a Singled Out moment as you’ll ever see (with a HBP mixed in), as all five hits touched the infield (including a bunt hit). Brutal way to start your week if you roster Duran, but there are no long-term concerns at all.

I suppose Sean Newcomb was due for this type of outing, well maybe not four runs all in one game. Three singles and a blast as he tried sneaking a fastball in on Sanchez, who turned on it. Not overly concerned about it.

Jacob Webb should have had a save chance, but Hunter Dobbins had to give up a home run to Hoerner with two outs in the top of the ninth. Webb’s fastball was up here, sitting at 95 MPH, and he remains the best option in this bullpen for saves.

I don’t understand what the Angels are doing at the end of games anymore. I thought we had a good thing going with Ryan Zeferjahn in the ninth? They tried José Fermin here before pivoting to Sam Bachman (who they tried in the ninth yesterday before pivoting to Mitch Farris). Zeferjahn gave up a leadoff double to Pena and a single to Yordan before settling down here, and the stuff still looks great.

Look at Jovani Morán mixing in to the late-inning leverage mix here. It’s definitely deserved, and his stuff was even up as a result, with his fastball sitting at 93.5 MPH pairing nicely with that nasty changeup.

There has been a lack of feel with that slider lately, and he’s even come back around to trying the splitter. This isn’t trending in the right direction, unfortunately.
