Top 100 Relievers for Save+Hold Leagues: 6/28

Top 100 RP rankings for Saves + Holds leagues in 2024.

Emmanuel Clase, Ryan Helsley, JoJo Romero, Tanner Scott, and Cade Smith each had three SV+HLDs this past week. It’s good to see Scott in this group finally, as he now has a 1.54 ERA and 1.17 WHIP on the season with 11 saves. He may be the best reliever actually available at the deadline this year, and no matter where he lands, should see high-leverage work with his new team.

Notes

  • Giovanny Gallegos, Trent Thornton, Robert Garcia, Calvin Faucher, Ben Joyce and Héctor Neris are added to the list. Gallegos is returning from the IL and should see occasional hold chances. Thornton has moved up the pecking order in Seattle, and could be in for more holds if Andrés Muñoz were to eventually miss time. Garcia and Faucher have pitched well and could see more hold chances as we get closer to the deadline. I’m intrigued by Joyce’s new “splinker” but the key with him will always be command (and staying healthy).

  • Ryan Helsley is still all alone as the league leader SV+HLDs for the season with a whopping 28 now. Emmanuel Clase is 2nd with 25, and there are currently three relievers with 23. Over Helsley’s past 14 IP he holds just a 10.1% K-BB rate, 1.86 WHIP, and 4.55 xFIP.

  • Quick closer update since Closing Time came out on Tuesday. I didn’t write about Carlos Estévez this week, but it’s worth pointing out how good he has been in the month of June, with just 1 baserunner allowed over 8 IP while striking out 10. In his two most recent outings he’s been sitting in the 97-98 range with his fastball, up from the 95-96 he had been earlier in the year. He’s likely to be on the move within the next month but is pitching well enough that he could land in a spot where he can continue to close out games.
