José Alvarado, Pete Fairbanks, Jeff Hoffman, Raisel Iglesias, Joe Jiménez, Paul Sewald, and Ryne Stanek all had three SV+HLDs this past week. This group is mostly comprised of the usual suspects but it’s nice to see Stanek pitching well and he’s really been a great late off-season addition to that Mariners bullpen that has lost Matt Brash for the year and has yet to see Gregory Santos debut.
Notes
- Shelby Miller, Jorge Alcala, Matt Moore, José Leclerc, Emilio Pagán, Ben Joyce, and Sean Hjelle all join the list this week. Miller and Pagan have returned from the IL while Alcala joins the list as he’s been great since being recalled, with his fastball sitting at 99 MPH these days. Speaking of flamethrowers, Ben Joyce was recently called up by the Angels and is a fun high-upside target for now. Moore (1 ER over last 7 IP) and Leclerc (1 ER and 12 K’s over last 9 IP) have been great lately and Hjelle has been awesome for the Giants this year with his low walk rate and high GB rate.
- Jordan Romano, Chris Martin, John Brebbia, Calvin Faucher, Alex Faedo, Yuki Matsui, and Shawn Armstrong all fell off the list this week. Romano, Martin, and Faedo landed on the IL. Brebbia, Faucher, Matsui, and Armstrong are all fringe options with guys like Faucher and Armstrong yo-yoing back and forth on the list, while Brebbia and Matsui have been disappointing.
- Ryan Helsley is all alone now as the league leader SV+HLDs for the season with 20 total. Things were a bit rocky towards the end of May for Helsley, but in two outings so far in June he has been perfect while striking out 4 hitters.
- Quick closer update since Closing Time came out on Tuesday. There isn’t a whole lot of news on the closer front but as far as injuries go, it does sound like Andrés Muñoz should be ok to pitch this weekend, as he is dealing with some back issues. Edwin Díaz has already started his rehab assignment and should return to the Mets bullpen early next week.

Injured List
PITCHER | TIER | INJURY. NOTES |
---|---|---|
Devin Williams | 1-2 | Back. On the 60-day IL now. Likely out until the All-Star break. Playing catch now. |
Edwin Díaz | 1-2 | Shoulder. Already begun his rehab assignment and should return next week. |
Jordan Romano | 2-3 | Elbow. No structural damage, and it sounds like this is similar to to injury that kept him out at the start of the season. |
A.J. Minter | 4-5 | Hip. Not expected to keep him out too long, should be back in June. Playing catch already. |
Julian Merryweather | 5-6 | Rib. Out until after the All-Star break but he is throwing. |
Josh Sborz | 5-6 | Shoulder. Another rotator cuff strain for Sborz, but he’s already progressed to bullpen work. |
Brock Stewart | 5-6 | Shoulder. MRI came back clean. Has begun some light work. June return is on the table. |
Gregory Santos | 6-7 | Lat. Progressed to light bullpen work could return in May. Added to 60-day IL and hopes to return in July. |
Chris Martin | 6-7 | Anxiety. Tough to put a timetable on this at the moment but we’re hoping the best for Martin. |
Lucas Erceg | 6-7 | Forearm. Seems like a minor injury, as Erceg is already playing catch and could throw a bullpen this weekend. |
Joe Kelly | 7-8 | Shoulder. Progress has been slow and his return is not imminent. |
Giovanny Gallegos | 7-8 | Shoulder. Started his rehab assignment and could be back with the team next week. |
