Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
STL 1 – MIA 4
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gordon Graceffo | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Matt Svanson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Ryan Fernandez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
- Ryan Fernandez remains very hittable, but 6 whiffs on 17 pitches is still impressive. They need one of these three righties to step up, and Matt Svanson still feels broken, while Gordan Graceffo just lacks premium stuff (curveball is nice though).
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Nardi | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Anthony Bender | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Michael Petersen | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 1 Whiffs | 62% CSW |
| Lake Bachar | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks – SV (5) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- This is the type of line Michael Petersen can manage when he’s even remotely locating his stuff. Let’s see this fastball command stick, and then we are talking about an elite-type reliever.
HOU 2 – CLE 0
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AJ Blubaugh – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Steven Okert – HLD (3) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Enyel De Los Santos – SV (3) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
- Better outing from Enyel De Los Santos here, but I’m honestly not too interested. He basically just avoided his fastball here, relying on throwing his slider and changeup for strikes (neither one is that good either).
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Festa | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Erik Sabrowski | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Hunter Gaddis threw five sliders and called it a day here. The stuff still feels pretty blegh, but he’s at least locked into a pretty good situation at the moment.
CIN 1 – TBR 6
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Connor Phillips | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Tony Santillan | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Brock Burke | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- It feels like Connor Phillips has pitched every day this week (he had Tuesday off), but it’s the same story with him. Great stuff, the command is still just not where we need it to be for him to take that next step forward.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kevin Kelly | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- The Rays desperately needed this start from Martinez tonight, and just needing to use Kevin Kelly should have this bullpen fresh heading into the weekend.
BAL 8 – KCR 6
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yennier Cano | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Tyler Wells – HLD (5) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Anthony Nunez – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Congrats to Anthony Nunez on his first career save, and while he couldn’t throw a fastball for a strike here, he was able to land a couple of sweepers in the zone and made this look easy. The command is still a work in progress, but the stuff is undeniable.
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eli Morgan | 1.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Alex Lange | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Mason Black | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Nice (and much needed) bounce back outing from Alex Lange here, who still possesses a great slider and changeup, and the command isn’t even terrible, but his fastball are meh.
TOR 3 – LAA 7
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tommy Nance – L (2) | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Braydon Fisher | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Joe Mantiply | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Braydon Fisher had been great to start this season, and this is most likely just a blip, as the hits were fairly lucky in this one, too.
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Zeferjahn – HLD (1) | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Chase Silseth – BS (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Brent Suter – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Jordan Romano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Two hits aside, this was probably the best Jordan Romano has looked in a full inning this season. There was (finally) some semblance of fastball command, and the slider command was passable at least. That said, he may be too hittable when he is in the strike zone, but I’d rather this than him walking hitters. With how Kirby Yates rehab assignment is going, I wonder if maybe Romano winds up getting a longer look at the closer role than we may have expected.
ATH 4 – SEA 5
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brady Basso – BS (1) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Mark Leiter Jr. Jr. | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Justin Sterner | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Joel Kuhnel – L (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
- This is the type of outing I was waiting for with Joel Kuhnel, as his stuff is just so hittable, he was due to get Singled Out. This is why we want guys who can miss bats.
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jose A. Ferrer | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Matt Brash | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Cooper Criswell – HLD (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Andrés Muñoz – W (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Andrés Muñoz still seems to be struggling to find a feel for his slider, and I want to believe he will find that feel eventually, but this inconsistency is frustrating at the moment.
MIL 2 – DET 5
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chad Patrick – L (1) | 4.0 IP | 4 ER | 6 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Carlos Rodríguez | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 8 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
- Carlos Rodríguez has a good changeup and not much else going on.
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Finnegan – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Will Vest – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Kenley Jansen – SV (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- The first shaky outing for Kenley Jansen this season, as he had trouble locating his cutter, but we also saw the velo down under 92 MPH with it here. The velocity fluctuates a lot, and I don’t think this is something to ultimately worry about, but this is a reminder that Jansen will have outings like this time to time.
ATL 8 – WSN 6
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Martín Pérez | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Dylan Lee – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Tyler Kinley – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Robert Suarez – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- 0 K’s from Dylan Lee and Robert Suarez is kind of crazy to think about, but the Nationals’ lineup was really aggressive against them here. Suarez only threw 8 pitches, but it’s still surprising that he threw his cutter the most (3 times) here. That pitch could add another level of nastiness from him, and takes some pressure off his changeup (which is OK at best) to be his top secondary.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mitchell Parker | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Julian Fernández | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Mitchell Parker still has a great slider. Is the fastball good enough to keep up?
NYY 4 – BOS 1
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brent Headrick | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Brent Headrick has been more good than bad this season, but there are still some command inconsistencies, and the stuff will also fluctuate a bit game to game. I don’t see Sabrowski-esque upside, but he can be a quality lefty in this game for a while.
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zack Kelly | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Eduardo Rivera | 3.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- Eduardo Rivera made his MLB debut here, and yeah, there’s a lot to like with the 22-year-old lefty. His three-pitch mix could certainly play in the MLB bullpen right now, but how do the Red Sox want to go about developing him, as he was just starting games at AA a week ago.
MIN 2 – NYM 3
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kendry Rojas | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Eric Orze | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Taylor Rogers – L (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Justin Topa | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 6% CSW |
- Kendry Rojas also made his MLB debut here, and I get the hype (97 MPH from the left side with two solid secondaries), but again, what’s the plan with Rojas long term this season? His command is still very questionable (at best), and are the Twins looking at him as just a bullpen arm now?
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brooks Raley | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Luke Weaver – W (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Luke Weaver grinded through the final four outs of this game despite having no command (11/30 pitches in the zone), but I’m sure Mets fans don’t care, as a win is a win. The stuff is still there for Weaver, but the command has been very hit or miss to begin the season. I’m not so sure he is the answer to the closer role if Devin Williams can’t turn things around.
PHI 2 – CHC 7
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taijuan Walker – L (4) | 4.0 IP | 4 ER | 8 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Alan Rangel | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 5 K | 6 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- I was bummed out when the Phillies optioned Seth Johnson for Alan Rangel, but Rangel’s stuff was also pretty impressive. The changeup and curveball are in plus territory, and despite sitting near 93 MPH with his fastball, he’s getting 20.4″ of iVB on the pitch. Even the slider he mixed in as his fourth pitch wasn’t bad. He’s certainly better than Taijuan Walker at this point.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ben Brown – W (1) | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 5 K | 2 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Corbin Martin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Hoby Milner | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- I wanted to buy into Ben Brown the reliever, but the stuff and command are just average, maybe above-average at best, and I just don’t know if there is another gear here he can find to get us more excited.
PIT 8 – TEX 4
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gregory Soto – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Dennis Santana | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- Gregory Soto teased us in the first two weeks, and now he is sitting at 95 MPH, and that sweeper isn’t as good as it was to open the season as well. He did throw a couple of four-seamers around 98 MPH here, so that’s still in the tank, but this is a different pitcher and someone who could lose his role to Mason Montgomery in the near future if things keep trending the way they have.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Alexander | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Gavin Collyer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Cole Winn – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Jalen Beeks | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 56% CSW |
- Cole Winn has also lost some of his early-season appeal as that fastball just isn’t what we want to see from a high-leverage reliever.
SDP 3 – COL 8
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Hart | 2.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| David Morgan | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Wandy Peralta | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- We can blame Coors for this one, but David Morgan is still frustratingly inconsistent. Luckily, the Padres don’t need him to be a lockdown leverage guy for them right now.
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaden Hill – HLD (4) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Antonio Senzatela | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 5 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Jaden Hill and Antonio Senzatela have ERA’s under 2 right now…but you don’t want to chase either one. Maybe in some crazy deep format, Senzatela’s innings can help you out, but the stuff has not improved that much.
CHW 7 – ARI 11
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jordan Hicks | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Bryan Hudson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Lucas Sims | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Sean Newcomb | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- After being claimed by multiple teams this offseason, it looks like Bryan Hudson has found a home with the White Sox, and I like what we’ve seen from him for the most part. The velocity has improved this year, and while not elite, he’s 6’8″ with 7.2′ of extension, and we’ll take the 1.5° HAVAA.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Clarke | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Ryan Thompson | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Juan Morillo | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Paul Sewald | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Despite a few baserunners allowed, Juan Morillo and Paul Sewald didn’t allow any runs in this one, and who would have thought these two would turn into the dominant back-end duo as they have?
LAD 0 – SFG 3
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jack Dreyer – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Kyle Hurt | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
- Nooo, Jack Dreyer what happened here? Two middle-middle fastballs for singles to open the inning, and then PATRICK BAILEY (the worst hitter in baseball, maybe?) goes deep on a hanging slider? Rough outing all the way around here (zero whiffs?) from Dreyer, and hopefully we can just chalk it up to a bad day.
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Caleb Kilian – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Ryan Walker – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Back-to-back saves for Ryan Walker over the past two days, so I guess he is the closer again for the Giants (maybe?) It wouldn’t be a surprise if his next outing is in the 6th or 7th innings over the weekend, but I guess he should still be rostered until we find out.
