Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
DET 8 – TBR 0
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enmanuel De Jesús – SV (1) | 4.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 8 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
- Enmanuel De Jesús looked great here with his fastball/changeup combo cooking. I’d like to see a bigger role for him.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Casey Legumina | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Cam Booser | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Ian Seymour | 2.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Bryan Baker | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Ben Williamson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Not sure why Bryan Baker pitched here, but he looked good, so nothing to worry about.
SDP 2 – PHI 3
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jeremiah Estrada – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Yuki Matsui | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Jason Adam | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Bradgley Rodriguez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
- The velocity was slightly better from Jeremiah Estrada here, but the command was not.
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José Alvarado – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Orion Kerkering – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Brad Keller – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran – SV (13) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Love seeing the swing and miss stuff from Jhoan Duran lately. The sweeper was lethal here, and the whole pitch mix is just crazy.
BAL 4 – BOS 2
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Kittredge – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Rico Garcia – SV (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- It’s the Red Sox offense at Fenway, but this is still a promising stat line for Andrew Kittredge, nonetheless. The slider has looked better the past couple of outings, so hopefully that’s on the right track for him.
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greg Weissert | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Tyler Samaniego | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Greg Weissert had some nice results in this one, but no, I am not buying back into this being some sort of turnaround.
MIA 7 – WSN 3
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| John King – W (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Ryan Gusto | 2.0 IP | 3 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Michael Petersen – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Anthony Bender – HLD (5) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Calvin Faucher | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Anthony Bender has been excellent lately as that sweeper is a truly elite offering, and the sinker velocity continues to improve. Another strong week, and he should move into the top 30-40 holds territory.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miles Mikolas – L (5) | 6.0 IP | 6 ER | 6 H | 2 BB | 4 K | 7 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Mitchell Parker | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- I guess Richard Lovelady is the new opener here.
CLE 9 – NYY 4
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colin Holderman – W (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Tim Herrin – HLD (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis – HLD (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Shawn Armstrong | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Matt Festa | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- Even without Sabrowski they can still just roll out five relievers to get wins, holds, or saves and not allow any runs. Hunter Gaddis has looked much better since he started throwing his changeups consistently.
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brent Headrick | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 10 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Tim Hill | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Ryan Yarbrough | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Great stuff here from Brent Headrick (dominating slider, fastball velocity up a MPH), but we gotta talk about Camilo Doval. He got Singled Out again, as will happen to sinker ballers who pitch to contact (although Doval’s velocity was up 3 MPH last night, averaging nearly 101 MPH), but let’s take a step back. Doval, for the first time in his career, showed a changeup 2 outings before last night, which I don’t think anyone was expecting (he threw 0 sliders in that outing). His last time out, he threw two sliders, and that was his outing. Last night, we got five changeups and 21 sinkers (1 cutter, 1 slider) as he only faced left-handed hitters. The three singles were a result of some bad infield defense, while the double to Bazzana was a good piece of hitting. Back to the changeup…he could not locate the pitch well, but there’s some potential with that pitch, so I hope he continues developing it.
KCR 3 – CIN 4
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Strahm – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Lucas Erceg – BS (6) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| John Schreiber – L (3) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Lucas Erceg shouldn’t be closing out games, but here we are still. He’s been pitching poorly, but also dealing with some bad luck, which is obviously not an ideal combination for a closer. I think better days are ahead for Erceg, but he needs to get out of the ninth inning first, give that role to Lynch or Strahm for now.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tejay Antone | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Sam Moll | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Zach Maxwell | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Brock Burke – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Speaking of teams with a messy closer situation, we got no clarity here, but if I had to pick someone to roll with, I’d say Brock Burke is the best option right now. I don’t love it, but I’m not sold on Sam Moll or Tejay Antone given their lack of fastball (although Moll’s been throwing harder his past five outings).
TOR 3 – ATL 4
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Braydon Fisher | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Mason Fluharty | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Connor Seabold | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Another strong outing from Braydon Fisher, who should be in line for more holds moving forward (as is Fluharty).
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Robert Suarez – HLD (9) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Raisel Iglesias – SV (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
- Raisel Iglesias worked around a pair of singles to pick up the save here. The changeup looked great as usual, but the fastball was down a bit here, sitting 94 MPH after averaging 95.1 MPH since returning from the IL. Could be nothing, but worth watching given his age and recent injury.
CHW 4 – MIN 6
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sean Newcomb | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Trevor Richards | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Trevor Richards has put together a nice couple of weeks for the White Sox recently, as he’s throwing fewer changeups, his best pitch. Maybe the changeup was too predictable from him, but he’s throwing more sliders and fastballs, and it’s working (for now).
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Morris – HLD (7) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Anthony Banda – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez – SV (4) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 53% CSW |
- Another save for Yoendrys Gómez! Just let the man cook in the closer role, please. I’m skeptical this will last, but he’s been great over the past month and much better than any other reliever on the roster.
SFG 3 – MIL 8
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erik Miller | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Sam Hentges | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Caleb Kilian | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Tristan Beck | 1.0 IP | 4 ER | 5 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Not great seeing Caleb Kilian in the 7th inning, but I think we saw this coming. Is Keaton Winn the next man up in the closer seat here?
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aaron Ashby – HLD (2) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Abner Uribe – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Trevor Megill | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Abner Uribe got two quick outs on five pitches before allowing three singles in a row. It’s going to happen from time to time with him (see Doval above), but I don’t think he’s in danger of losing his setup role anytime soon.
TEX 7 – STL 4
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jalen Beeks | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Cal Quantrill – W (3) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Jakob Junis – SV (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Jakob Junis has been missing more bats this month, and I’m not even sure I can point to why that is, because the velocity and pitch usage are mostly the same as they had been. The velocity was up a little bit here (#SaveChanceEnergy), but the fastball is still very vulnerable if he isn’t commanding it well.
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JoJo Romero | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Gordon Graceffo | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| George Soriano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Riley O’Brien – L (3) | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
- Riley O’Brien started this outing with a lead-off walk…it’s always going to lead to a bad time, man. After the walk, he too got Singled Out and again, just like with fellow hard-throwing sinker ballers in Doval and Uribe, this will happen from time to time when you pitch to contact late in games. Luckily for O’Brien, I’m not sure there’s a better alternative option here, although I don’t see any harm in giving JoJo Romero a chance, but he is the team’s only trustworthy left-handed reliever right now. I think O’Brien can be fine, just needs to get ahead of hitters again, and get some better luck.
ATH 2 – CHC 1
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Sterner – HLD (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Scott Barlow – HLD (9) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Hogan Harris – SV (5) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- I don’t like the idea of Scott Barlow getting the ninth inning up just one run, but at least the A’s were also quick to make the proper hook here, and Hogan Harris bailed them out. It’s a mess without Jack Perkins pitching well, and I don’t think you want to roster anyone here in 12-teamers right now.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hoby Milner | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Daniel Palencia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Daniel Palencia will get a save chance again this year, I promise. It was nice to see the slider dominate here, though (60% SwStr%).
PIT 10 – HOU 6
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wilber Dotel – HLD (2) | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Dennis Santana | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Gregory Soto – SV (8) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 57% CSW |
- Dennis Santana gave us an easy Gregory Soto save here at least. Santana is trying everything to try and have success again (five pitch mix now?), but at the end of the day, the fastball just isn’t very good.
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enyel De Los Santos | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 55% CSW |
| Steven Okert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Bryan Abreu | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| AJ Blubaugh | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- In case you were still wondering, Bryan Abreu is still broken (velocity still under 94 MPH with no command).
- AJ Blubaugh, on the other hand, showed some signs of life here, though, as he was averaging 97.7 MPH here, as all of his pitches were way up. We saw this from him in the first week or so this season, and then he came back down to earth. If this velocity can stick this time, he’s definitely back on the hold radar.
COL 8 – LAA 2
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blas Castano | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| TJ Shook | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Juan Mejia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- TJ Shook made his debut here, and there’s unfortunately nothing of interest here.
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Aldegheri | 5.1 IP | 0 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 5 K | 12 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Not interested, no matter the role.
LAD 6 – ARI 5
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blake Treinen – W (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Edgardo Henriquez – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Kyle Hurt | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Will Klein – HLD (7) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Tanner Scott – SV (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- This is what happens when Kyle Hurt doesn’t have great command. It’s likely just a one-off, but it’s not like his command was elite in the minors leading up to this season.
- Tanner Scott bounced back nicely from his last outing here, and even if he’s just getting 60-70% of the save chances, that’s still better than probably 60-70% of alternative closer options right now. He remains a must-roster.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Kevin Ginkel | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Juan Morillo | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
- Juan Morillo gave up an infield single, but other than that, looked great. The stuff seems to be back on track.
NYM 3 – SEA 8
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonah Tong – L (1) | 3.1 IP | 4 ER | 5 H | 2 BB | 4 K | 10 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Cionel Pérez | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| A.J. Minter | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- A.J. Minter had some issues with his command here, and the velocity is still down, but he might be ok around 92 MPH since he’s more cutter dependent at this point anyway.
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eduard Bazardo – HLD (11) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Cooper Criswell | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Cooper Criswell is great to have in this role, but anything more is too much to ask. There’s not much fantasy value in a mop-up guy, unfortunately.
