Emilio Pagán was inches away from giving up a game-tying home run here, but Myers was able to track down Halpin’s drive at the wall. The good news for Pagán here was that his fastball was up 1.2 MPH (95.9 vs. 94.7 season avg), which is great for the Reds if they are hoping to get a team to bite for his services in the next week.

I suppose a silver lining here is that despite the 5.26 ERA, this was only Paul Sewald’s third blown save, and he still has a better WHIP than Jhoan Duran and Cade Smith on the season. But Sewald is now tied for the league lead in home runs allowed by a reliever, though (11), and the home run issue is clearly a massive problem. If I had to guess, Sewald will get the next save chance, and I’d imagine they’d at least like him to keep that role until Justin Martinez returns. But another disaster outing this week would probably be it for Sewald as the Diamondbacks closer.
