Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
TOR 2 – DET 1
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spencer Miles | 3.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 5 K | 11 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Braydon Fisher | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Tommy Nance | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Louis Varland – W (2) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Louis Varland got through two innings here, secured a win, and stranded a runner on third in the ninth. He’s running away from Jeff Hoffman here, and those who added him should have no worries right now.
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Finnegan – BS (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Connor Seabold | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Kenley Jansen | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Tyler Holton – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
- Kyle Finnegan has been struggling lately, and now holds a 1.48 WHIP and -2.2% K-BB on the season. The splitter doesn’t seem to be fooling anyone this season, but who can the Tigers trust right now to get the ball to Kenley Jansen in the ninth?
KCR 2 – STL 4
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bailey Falter | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Bailey Falter still doesn’t have a great fastball or command, so we can ignore him for now.
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gordon Graceffo – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Justin Bruihl – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| George Soriano – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- George Soriano hung on here for the save, and the fastball still worries me (Caglianone got to one here), but the changeup (and occasionally the slider) is great.
ARI 2 – COL 4
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Clarke | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Brandyn Garcia | 0.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Kevin Ginkel | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Brandyn Garcia has a great sinker/sweeper combo, but the command is inconsistent as shown here.
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Juan Mejia – HLD (3) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Jaden Hill – HLD (8) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Antonio Senzatela – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Antonio Senzatela got his first conventional save here, and this trio could be what the Rockies go with for the foreseeable future. I don’t exactly have a ton of trust in Senzatela, and I know he’s changed and been great so far this season, but this is the Rockies, and I just don’t want to chase anyone here.
BAL 3 – WSN 13
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dietrich Enns | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Keegan Akin | 0.1 IP | 6 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Andrew Kittredge | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Josh Walker | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Keegan Akin could not locate his fastball here, and the results were…well not great. Andrew Kittredge allowed two of the runs to score on the home run he allowed to Young, as Kittredge still hasn’t had the same slider success as last year.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PJ Poulin – HLD (4) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
| Orlando Ribalta | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Paxton Schultz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Orlando Ribalta has been solid since being recalled by the Nationals, and he at least has a good foundation in his four-seamer and ability to locate his slider.
PHI 6 – PIT 0
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evan Sisk | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Isaac Mattson | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Yohan Ramírez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 54% CSW |
| Justin Lawrence | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Brandan Bidois | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Brandan Bidois hasn’t looked dominant since being called up, but I see the potential in the stuff, and it starts with the fastball. The command could be a little better, but the velo/shape is fantastic. If we can get a more consistent slider from him, he could quickly ascend into a high-leverage role.
MIA 10 – TBR 5
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Nardi | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Anthony Bender | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Lake Bachar | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Pete Fairbanks couldn’t work around a one-out walk, with Mullins eventually stealing second and the catcher’s throw going into CF, followed by a “single” off Sanoja’s glove at third base. The stuff looked great as usual; the fastball command was just off, but it was also his first game action in a long while.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Garrett Cleavinger – BS (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Kevin Kelly | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Bryan Baker | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Hunter Bigge – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 7 ER | 6 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Bryan Baker was also unlucky in this one, as he started the inning with back-to-back strikeouts before Marsee threw his bat out and flared a single to left on a filthy 0-2 changeup. The next changeup Baker hung over the plate, and Sanoja hammered it off the wall. He struck out the next batter, so it was really just one bad pitch in this outing that cost him. I love how much he is throwing the changeup, but I’m not sure abandoning the slider completely is the right move.
CIN 4 – CLE 7
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luis Mey – HLD (1) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Sam Moll – L (3) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Pierce Johnson | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Connor Phillips | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Luis Mey was optioned after this game, and I get it, the command is not there right now…but the same can be said about Connor Phillips or almost anyone in this bullpen, to be honest. Right now, there is no one we can trust here.
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colin Holderman | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Erik Sabrowski – W (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 60% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Cade Smith – SV (14) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- Hunter Gaddis is looking better, and it’s nice to see the fastball in the mid-96 MPH range. I think we may be able to trust him again in holds leagues.
- Cade Smith was throwing 98 MPH here, which is great to see, but also not needed for him to be great.
TEX 1 – HOU 4
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cal Quantrill | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Nothing to see here with Quantrill.
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Okert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 58% CSW |
| Enyel De Los Santos | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Bryan King – HLD (3) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| AJ Blubaugh – HLD (3) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 6% CSW |
| Bryan Abreu – SV (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Bryan Abreu was able to pick up his second save of the year here by getting four outs…yet he managed zero whiffs and zero strikeouts. Foscue almost tied the game off him in the eighth with a fly ball to the wall, while the other outs were hit pretty hard as well, and the fastball velocity remains down over 2 MPH. We haven’t turned the corner yet.
CHC 3 – CHW 8
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethan Roberts | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Ryan Rolison | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Ethan Roberts’ sweeper is so good, and the cutter is OK, but the sinker is quite terrible, so as long as he is focused on the sweeper first, cutter second…he could be OK.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brandon Eisert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Trevor Richards | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Trevor Richards’ fastball/changeup still looks good; the command just needs to be there with the fastball. The home run to PCA was not even a bad pitch (the single to Conforto was), just a good piece of hitting.
MIL 2 – MIN 1
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chad Patrick – SV (1) | 4.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Chad Patrick makes sense as some kind of piggyback starter out of the bullpen until a rotation spot opens back up.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eric Orze | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Yoendrys Gómez has intriguing stuff still, but the command is so inconsistent that it’s hard to trust him.
SDP 7 – SEA 4
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wandy Peralta – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Jason Adam | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Alek Jacob | 0.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Adrian Morejon – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Jeremiah Estrada – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
- The Padres went to Jeremiah Estrada in the ninth as Adrian Morejon was needed to get them out of a jam in the eighth, and it almost backfired as Estrada still doesn’t look quite himself. The velocity is getting better, but the command ain’t great.
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nick Davila | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Domingo González | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- These two have been pitching a lot lately, but when the bullpen is at full strength, they won’t be here.
BOS 3 – ATL 2
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aroldis Chapman – SV (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
- Aroldis Chapman looked great against the first three batters he faced, but a two-out error by Monasterio kept the inning alive. The command and velocity just fell apart after that, but Chapman was able to get out of the bases-loaded jam with a nice kick save on a ground ball up the middle. Should we be concerned yet? Probably not, but the consistency hasn’t been there compared to last season.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Martín Pérez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Martín Pérez was supposed to start on Monday, but that is not going to happen anymore.
NYY 3 – NYM 6
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jake Bird | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Brent Headrick | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Tim Hill | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Paul Blackburn | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Brent Headrick’s slider was cooking here, but the one splitter he threw he left up to Vientos, who doubled down the line off him. He still fared better than Tim Hill in this one, and if I were going to roster one of the lefties here, I still would lean toward Headrick.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| David Peterson – W (2) | 4.0 IP | 2 ER | 6 H | 3 BB | 8 K | 10 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Brooks Raley – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Luke Weaver – HLD (5) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Devin Williams – SV (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Luke Weaver and Devin Williams got their revenge on the Yankees in this one, closing out the final three innings and allowing just one baserunner. They’ve each been looking better and better with each outing as of late.
LAD 15 – LAA 2
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blake Treinen | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Wyatt Mills | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
| Charlie Barnes | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- The Dodgers have plenty of pitching depth, but I think it ends at Wyatt Mills and Charlie Barnes. Neither one is very interesting.
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Silseth | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Jose Fermin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Alek Manoah | 1.1 IP | 8 ER | 6 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Adam Frazier | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- That should be it for Alek Manoah, whom I’d imagine will get DFA’d or at least placed on the IL after this one. His fastball was sitting at 86 MPH here, and Adam Frazier actually had better stuff than
SFG 6 – ATH 4
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erik Miller | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Caleb Kilian | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Matt Gage – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Caleb Kilian entered in the eighth inning to help bail out Erik Miller, who was returning from the IL and clearly a little rusty still (although his command is typically a problem). This led to a Matt Gage save chance, and while it wasn’t flashy, he got the job done. That basically sums up his season so far, as he holds a 1.40 ERA but just 2.6% K-BB and 24% CSW rates (and 5.06 SIERA).
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scott Barlow | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Mark Leiter Jr. | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Nothing new to report on the two veterans in the A’s bullpen (although this was one of Leiter’s best outings all season).
