Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
SFG 18 – CHC 3
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Carson Seymour – HLD (1) | 3.0 IP | 3 ER | 6 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Dylan Smith | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
- Dylan Smith showed better fastball velocity here, up in the mid-96 mph range, which is nice to see. The breakers feel closer to average than above average or better though, but this bullpen is wide open at the moment so Smith should at least get a chance to stick around for a while.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phil Maton | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Hoby Milner | 0.1 IP | 6 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Ethan Roberts | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Caleb Thielbar | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Carson Kelly | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- The Cubs need Phil Maton and Caleb Thielbar to turn things around, but I still don’t think throwing more sinkers is the answer for Maton. The cutter is broken for him right now though, so I guess he needs the sinker until he fixes the cutter. Thielbar’s stuff was down again here, but that could be a result of the score being out of hand.
SEA 3 – DET 7
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eduard Bazardo | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Alex Hoppe | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
- Alex Hoppe allowed a two-run HR to Torkelson here, but it wasn’t even a bad pitch (1-2 slider down in the zone), and overall, I was impressed with the stuff. The fastball velocity was at 98+ MPH again, and the slider looked great with just the one blemish (again, not a terrible pitch either).
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drew Anderson – HLD (3) | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Tyler Holton – HLD (5) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Kyle Finnegan – HLD (8) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Will Vest | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Will Vest continues to act as the team’s closer, and the stuff was up here again as he’s looked much better since coming off the IL. That said, the command was terrible here, so that needs to be better if he wants to hang on to the closer role for however long Jansen is out.
CHW 6 – PHI 8
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Davis | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Brandon Eisert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Bryan Hudson – L (2) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Trevor Richards | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
- Brandon Eisert’s fastball was up 2 MPH here, sitting at 91.4 MPH (with 7.1′ ext and 1.5° HAVAA). Not great still, but that is much better and gives his slider and changeup better results. Bryan Hudson has been great for this team so far, but if Eisert can stay in that 91-92 MPH range, he and Hudson aren’t so different.
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Bowlan – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Brad Keller – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran – SV (15) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- I appreciate seeing Jonathan Bowlan get this high leverage chance, and he looked great with the two hits, which were pure bad luck (shattered Montgomery’s bat on his bloop single, Meidroth’s single was chopped off home plate). The fastball was sitting at 98.5 MPH (touched 100), but I’d still like to see him hone in the secondaries.
BOS 5 – NYY 3
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Danny Coulombe – HLD (4) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Justin Slaten – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Aroldis Chapman – SV (13) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Aroldis Chapman got the save here, but he is clearly hurting, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see him on the IL after this game. The command was off, and his velocity was down 1.5 MPH as he was trying to fight through a hamstring injury. He could be the Red Sox biggest trade asset next month, so they need to tread carefully here.

| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paul Blackburn | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
- Camilo Doval was throwing gas again here, and the slider came back, with 2 whiffs on 3 thrown (and a ground out). He also dotted a 101.4 MPH cutter on the edge of the plate for a strikeout against Gasper. The stuff is strong, and he’s clearly working on turning things around (tried another changeup here), so I’m cautiously optimistic he’ll turn things around.
BAL 13 – TOR 3
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Wolfram – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Yennier Cano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Anthony Nunez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Yennier Cano showed better velocity here, and it looks like he’s feeling better after dealing with a hamstring injury last week.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adam Macko | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Connor Seabold | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Yariel Rodriguez | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Tyler Heineman | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Adam Macko, in the mid-95 MPH range, is definitely intriguing, with those two above-average breakers he has.
TBR 6 – MIA 0
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cam Booser | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Cole Sulser | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Good to see Cam Booser back at the MLB level; he always felt a bit underrated. If anyone can get the most out of the lefty, it would be the Rays, right?
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Phillips | 4.2 IP | 3 ER | 7 H | 3 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| William Kempner | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Tyler Zuber | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Don’t mind Tyler Zuber, just another Marlins reliever with A stuff entering the bullpen mix. Zuber didn’t have great command here, but the sweeper and four-seamer can both be really good. No idea what his role may be, but if he can gain some consistent command, he’ll be worth monitoring.
PIT 3 – ATL 6
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Evan Sisk | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Dennis Santana | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Brandan Bidois | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- The stuff was slightly down and command non-existent for Brandan Bidois here, but even still, we got two strikeouts and six whiffs. If we ever can get some consistency from him…
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Didier Fuentes – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Dylan Lee – HLD (12) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Robert Suarez – HLD (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Raisel Iglesias – SV (12) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
- Robert Suarez’s fastball velocity remains down a tick, and so far it hasn’t led to any big meltdowns, but the swing and miss has evaporated with just a 17.6% K rate over his past 9.1 innings. The command was also suspect here (as far as Suarez goes).
ATH 1 – HOU 5
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Barnett | 4.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 7 K | 12 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Jack Perkins started this one, but maybe Mason Barnett can get a look in the rotation after this performance. The A’s need to commit to Perkins in one role or another though.
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enyel De Los Santos – HLD (5) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Bryan King | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Josh Hader | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- Josh Hader looks as close to all the way back as he could at this point. Barring something crazy, the next three days, he should be in the top 10 in next week’s closer ranks update.
CIN 3 – STL 10
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brock Burke | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Zach Maxwell | 0.1 IP | 4 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Luis Mey | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Zach McCambley | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- At this point, maybe Zach McCambley could be the best option as the Reds’ closer until Emilio Pagán returns. Brock Burke still would be my pick, although Sam Moll probably deserves a chance to fail first. Burke’s fastball was way up here at 98 MPH.
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter Dobbins – W (1) | 5.0 IP | 0 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 6 K | 8 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Nice seeing former Red Sox Hunter Dobbins here, I’d imagine he’ll enter the rotation sooner rather than later, probably for Leahy.
CLE 2 – TEX 3
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Festa | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 54% CSW |
| Shawn Armstrong | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Shawn Armstrong continues to look strong since coming off the IL and deserves a boost in the holds rankings next week. This is the one bullpen where you can probably find value in 4-5 different relievers just based on how the Guardians win their games.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peyton Gray – W (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Jalen Beeks – HLD (6) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Jacob Latz – SV (9) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Jacob Latz with another two-out save, and he was averaging 96 MPH with his fastball here, which you love to see. The only negative about the two-out save is that he is likely not available today.
KCR 3 – MIN 5
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Cruz | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Beck Way | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
- I’m not sure if I have talked about Beck Way this year yet, but while there’s some good velocity here from a low slot, I’m not sure if the stuff is good enough to make him an impact reliever right now. That said, for guys like Way (and Steven Cruz), this bullpen feels wide open to be taken advantage of at the moment.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Banda – HLD (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Travis Adams – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Travis Adams was the chosen one for the Twins save last night, and while he struggled a bit, he was able to secure the victory. There’s a decent four-pitch mix here, but ultimately Adams feels like a better long relief/potentially solid middle relief option than a high-leverage guy.
MIL 9 – COL 7
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brian Fitzpatrick | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Craig Yoho | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Trevor Megill – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Aaron Ashby | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Craig Yoho is back, and I’m going to ignore his player card since this game was in Coors. The results are promising, though, and it’s nice seeing his fastball velocity up in the mid-93 MPH range now.
- Trevor Megill was not expecting to have to pitch in this game when the top of the ninth inning started, and it showed as his fastball velocity was down on the first three pitches (including two singles, one being an infield “single”). He then struck out McCarthy, throwing nothing but curveballs before going back to the fastball, which led to a third single. A walk and a sac fly followed, allowing the two runs to score. It was definitely not the best Megill has looked, but it shouldn’t be a cause for concern given the circumstances.
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaden Hill – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Antonio Senzatela – BS (2) | 1.2 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 7 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Juan Mejia – L (5) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Seth Halvorsen | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- The Antonio Senzatela blowup finally happened, but will there be more? The way Jaden Hill has been mostly consistent lately, I wonder if the team would shift him into the ninth? I’m not sure if Hill is the answer either; maybe we come full circle back to Seth Halvorsen?
WSN 14 – ARI 1
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paxton Schultz | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Cole Henry | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Blegh.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Philip Abner | 1.1 IP | 5 ER | 5 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Kade Strowd | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Adrian Del Castillo | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Good to see Kade Strowd again, and while the command was down, the stuff looked pretty good at least. However, he was optioned today for Drey Jameson.
NYM 5 – SDP 0
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Huascar Brazobán – HLD (5) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Luke Weaver | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| A.J. Minter | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Luke Weaver’s fastball was up over 96 MPH again. No whiffs or strikeouts here, but I like the long-term outlook with this velocity.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| David Morgan | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Mason Miller | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Yuki Matsui | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 100% CSW |
- Mason Miller hasn’t pitched in a while as the Padres are scuffling, so he got some work here, and the stuff was down a bit. Probably due to this not being a save chance and being a bit rusty, and while he should be fine moving forward, I’m still all for selling high on closers if you need help elsewhere on your roster.
LAA 0 – LAD 1
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Silseth | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Sam Bachman | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Kirby Yates – L (2) | 0.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Kirby Yates actually was throwing a little harder here (up to 91 MPH), but this matchup was never likely to end well for him. Outside of Sam Bachman hitting Freeland in a 2-2 count, he looked great in the eighth inning and is clearly the best reliever in this bullpen.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Edgardo Henriquez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Tanner Scott | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Blake Treinen – W (3) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Like every two weeks or so, we get an outing like this from Edgardo Henriquez showcasing his tantalizing upside. Can we string together a few outings like this, please? I want to be in; he’s just so inconsistent.
