Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
SFG 2 – BAL 6
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Gage | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Ryan Walker | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Erik Miller | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| JT Brubaker | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
- Hmm, so Ryan Walker entered the game in the 6th inning, and Robbie Ray was not the starter. Despite the 3 hits, he actually didn’t pitch all that poorly here, but the usage (and result) is not what you want to see. So who is the closer? Keaton Winn and Caleb Kilian have looked great at times but are inconsistent. Joel Peguero is in the middle of his rehab assignment and could return this week, maybe he jumps into the closer mix? It’s a tough situation to chase right now.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Nunez | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
| Tyler Wells | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Tyler Wells continues to look OK as a full-time reliever again. Still, with Andrew Kittredge’s return pending and the emergence of Anthony Nunez, there’s no fantasy value here at the moment.
ARI 4 – PHI 3
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Taylor Clarke (W) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Kevin Ginkel (HLD) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Ryan Thompson (HLD) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Paul Sewald (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- I guess the team wanted to give Juan Morillo a day off and used Jonathan Loáisiga earlier in the game, so things got a little dicey in the 7th and 8th, but they ultimately held on.
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Painter | 5.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 7 K | 14 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| José Alvarado (L) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Jonathan Bowlan | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Tim Mayza | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- José Alvarado actually looked a little bit better from a stuff standpoint here, and didn’t locate terribly, just dealt with some bad luck.
MIN 8 – TOR 2
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Morris (HLD) | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 6 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 11 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Justin Topa | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Andrew Morris has a pretty interesting fastball/sweeper combo that I think could play up as a short-stint reliever (cutter/changeup could be ok too). This bullpen feels wide open still, so Morris is a name to keep an eye on.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joe Mantiply | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Tommy Nance | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 62% CSW |
| Mason Fluharty | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Louis Varland | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Jeff Hoffman | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 58% CSW |
- This is how this bullpen should play more often than not, especially from Tommy Nance onward. One hit, no walks, and eight K’s over five innings.
LAA 9 – CIN 6
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Bachman | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Nick Sandlin | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Drew Pomeranz | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Sam Bachman had zero fastball command, which is going to happen with him time to time.
- Drew Pomeranz left a fastball middle cut to Elly for a HR, but other than that looked good.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Nicolas | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Brock Burke | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Sam Moll | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Connor Phillips | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 55% CSW |
- Connor Phillips with no walks and a 55% CSW, things are looking up! He only threw three fastballs (two for strikes), but we can still chalk this up as a positive step.
ATH 1 – NYM 0
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hogan Harris (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Scott Barlow (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Elvis Alvarado (HLD) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Joel Kuhnel (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- I’m not sure if the A’s think Joel Kuhnel is the answer to their closer role, but I think they know, like we all know, that it won’t end well. He hasn’t been an MLB regular since 2022, and the stuff hasn’t exactly improved over that span.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sean Manaea | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- Good work from Sean Manaea here, and we saw a little bit better velocity (89.3 MPH).
MIA 2 – DET 8
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Phillips | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Tyler Phillips gave the Marlins much-needed innings, as he is one to do. The breakers were both really good here.
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Finnegan | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 7% CSW |
| Connor Seabold | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
- This is not the most appealing line from Kyle Finnegan, and his fastball was slightly down, but it’s probably just due to the circumstances (big lead, cold weather, etc.)
NYY 4 – TBR 5
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Yarbrough | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
| Brent Headrick | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- Camilo Doval seems to have his velocity back, which is good news for the Yankees, as David Bednar is still down velo-wise.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cole Sulser (HLD) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Kevin Kelly (HLD) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Mason Englert (SV) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- This bullpen survived (barely) without their three top leverage guys right now. I like Kevin Kelly, but getting 0 Whiffs ain’t encouraging.
CHW 6 – KCR 5
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sean Newcomb | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Jonathan Cannon (BS) | 0.0 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Brandon Eisert | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Jordan Hicks | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Bryan Hudson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Jordan Leasure (W) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Lucas Sims (HLD) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- The White Sox used 9 pitchers and still wound up with a win, allowing just 5 earned runs. Lucas Sims is kind of becoming interesting again (the velo shot up today),
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nick Mears (BS) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| John Schreiber (L) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Daniel Lynch IV | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Alex Lange | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Nick Mears got a tough “Blown Save” here, but that fastball he had was maybe the best he’s had in two years (95.5 MPH, 21.1″ iVB). He had no command, but this is still intriguing.
- Daniel Lynch IV looks a lot better this season, and should start seeing more high-leverage chances given the alternatives right now. He’s raised his arm angle, and his pitch shapes have been better.
WSN 8 – MIL 6
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ken Waldichuk | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Cole Henry (BS) | 0.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| PJ Poulin (W) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Gus Varland (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Gus Varland didn’t throw 20 sliders to just 2 fastballs in this outing, and hey, it worked out a lot better by going 50/50 fastball/slider. It wasn’t his best fastball either, but it was good enough paired with his slider to get the job done. If Clayton Beeter continues to have command issues, Varland would be my top pick to take over the closer role at this point.
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Abner Uribe (BS) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Angel Zerpa (L) | 0.2 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Aaron Ashby | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Jake Woodford | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Abner Uribe didn’t have his best stuff here, and he hasn’t really at any point this season so far. Hopefully it’s nothing physical and just a slow start.
- So Angel Zerpa is going to need to develop, or at least trust some sort of off-speed pitch, because he can’t just keep throwing his sinker over the plate and hoping for the best. His slider can be pretty good, and the changeup isn’t terrible either, so trust them a bit more, please?
BOS 9 – STL 3
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Danny Coulombe | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Zack Kelly | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Zack Kelly looked pretty good here, leaning on his cutter and sweeper (as he probably should) despite leaving a cutter middle in to Burleson. The Red Sox need him to step up and be a high-leverage guy for them.
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| George Soriano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jared Shuster | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- George Soriano looked good again, and as long as he isn’t grooving fastballs or walking guys, the offspeed stuff is pretty electric. He’s moved into that 3rd set up role for now, but knowing Ryne Stanek’s history, he could move up the ladder even further if he keeps making strides.
PIT 6 – CHC 7
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter Barco (HLD) | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Justin Lawrence (BS) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| José Urquidy (L) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- I want Justin Lawrence to be good, and the stuff was actually up here, but he’s just going to continue to have a hard time against lefties. He should be experimenting with a changeup; even if it’s not great, it’s something to keep lefties a little more off balance.
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Riley Martin | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Ethan Roberts | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Daniel Palencia (W) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Daniel Palencia had no fastball command, but it didn’t wind up hurting him, luckily. He’s not trusting his slider as much this season (something I noticed in the WBC), instead going more splitter-heavy, and yes, the splitter is nasty, but so wasn’t the slider last year. The arm angle has gone up 3°, so the shape has changed a bit on his pitches, and yeah, the slider has taken a hit while the fastball and splitter look improved.
COL 2 – SDP 7
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jimmy Herget (L) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Chase Dollander | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Valente Bellozo | 4.1 IP | 5 ER | 8 H | 4 BB | 1 K | 8 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Victor Vodnik | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Victor Vodnik’s command on the road continues to be shaky, and I wonder if the Rockies would ever consider going with a different closer (maybe Juan Mejia) on the road, with Vodnik getting the home saves.
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Hart | 2.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| David Morgan (W) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 10 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Wandy Peralta | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Bradgley Rodriguez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- Sure, this David Morgan outing can be somewhat attributed to Rockie Road but man, 10 Whiffs and 4 K’s over 6 batters is pretty crazy. He went slider and curveball heavy, which is fairly uncharacteristic of him, but it paid off here. The command is a concern, but the four-pitch mix helps his stuff play up.
HOU 1 – SEA 6
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jayden Murray | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Christian Roa | 2.2 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Enyel De Los Santos | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Bryan Abreu | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- This team is hurting for right-handed relief help, as none of these guys are helping much right now. Bryan Abreu actually looked better here, but I don’t think we can go back to trusting it until he strings some positive outings together.
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jose A. Ferrer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Cooper Criswell | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- Jose A. Ferrer’s stuff was way down, and hopefully it was just a one-day thing. Plus, he only threw 6 pitches.
TEX 5 – LAD 2
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jacob Latz (HLD) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Cole Winn (HLD) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Jakob Junis (SV) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- Jakob Junis not only got his third save of the week, but he also recorded TWO strikeouts, with one being Ohtani!? This will likely not last, but Junis should be rostered in most formats, and we just Vargas Rule it until the BABIP luck starts to turn. The changeup is good, and the slider is fine, and he doesn’t walk anyone, so there’s a non-zero chance this works out for longer than we might expect. Just don’t expect multi-K outings like this one.

| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Edgardo Henriquez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 6% CSW |
| Jack Dreyer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Ben Casparius | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Will Klein | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Bunch of nasty stuff, middling or worse command outings from this group, and that’s more or less their thing. Edgardo Henriquez is frustrating cause one day he looks like Mason Miller 2.0, the next it’s Jordan Hicks. I suppose that means he’s likely to fall somewhere in between (and that’s probably pretty good still).
CLE 1 – ATL 13
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kolby Allard | 3.0 IP | 5 ER | 8 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 6 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Austin Hedges | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Hedges maybe should have “pitched” longer here.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Dodd (SV) | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Dylan Dodd looked good getting a three-inning save (the 40th different pitcher to record a save this week), and then was sent down this morning. He should be back up again soon, and could stick on the MLB bullpen if they deal with any injuries there.
