Alex Cook — Four-Seamer up 1.3 MPH (96.7 vs. 95.4 season avg). Between Cook, Johnson, and potentially Hopkins if they move forward with him as a reliever…this Rays bullpen has quite the bright future. Brody Hopkins could be Mason Miller 2.0 if the Rays go down the reliever route with him, with his fastball/curveball duo.

Griffin Canning — Four-Seamer up 0.9 MPH (95.4 vs. 94.5 season avg)

Brennan Bernardino — Sinker up 0.9 MPH (91.2 vs. 90.3 season avg). Not really sure how Bernadino and Romano did what they did over the final two innings, outside of the fact the game was already out of hand. Bernardino’s curveball is pretty good, I’ll give him that.

I still believe in the skills of Grant Taylor, but how are we feeling about him given how “normal” he’s been since the start of July? Sure, he holds a 1.93 ERA, but that comes with a 3.54 SIERA (4.22 xERA), 1.13 WHIP, and just a 15.5% K-BB rate. This is a fine stat line, I was just expecting more from him, I guess.

I don’t love Jacob Latz throwing back-to-back curveballs to Story here; let him beat you on a fastball or even a changeup, not your fourth-best pitch. Other than that mistake, Latz looked fine.

Yoendrys Gómez — Four-Seamer up 1.3 MPH (97.2 vs. 95.9 season avg); Sweeper usage 50% (+27 pts vs. 23% usual). Ok, maybe this is the outing that gets Gómez removed from the closer role? I get it, the stuff still looks great, but the command stinks. At this point, his 2025 numbers are looking better than this season’s.
Kody Funderburk — Sinker down 2.6 MPH (90.4 vs. 93.0 season avg). He only threw one pitch.

What are we supposed to do about Ben Joyce for 2027? He’s not finishing the season strong, but he may be the favorite to open the year as the closer (if healthy), and we all know the upside he possesses. He actually picked up two strikeouts to start the inning here, before a single kept the inning alive, allowing Jenkins to clear out a 1-0 fastball down and in for the game-tying home run. Two mistakes with his command, but the stuff looked great.
Blake Weiman — Four-Seamer down 1.6 MPH (88.5 vs. 90.1 season avg)
