Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
MIA 8 – PIT 3
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| John King | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- John King showed an uptick in stuff here, and while the fastball (sinker) isn’t great, the deep offspeed arsenal makes up for it. He hasn’t picked up a hold since late April, but I’d imagine that changes sooner rather than later with Nardi on the IL.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wilber Dotel – L (2) | 1.2 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Antwone Kelly | 2.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- The one pitch Wilber Dotel had was his fastball, and it was down 2 MPH here, leaving him with four below-average pitches to work with. He’s probably heading back to AAA (or the IL?) after this.
- Antwone Kelly made his debut here, and he was sitting 99.5 MPH with his fastball and showing a pretty good sweeper as well (changeup could be good too). Not sure what the plan for Kelly is, but the stuff could certainly help out this bullpen if he sticks around.
SEA 10 – WSN 2
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michael Rucker | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- We haven’t seen Michael Rucker since 2023, but the stuff looked much improved here, with a solid curve/four-seam/cutter mix. Definitely more interesting than Davila, at least.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Riley Cornelio | 4.1 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 13 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Paxton Schultz | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Gus Varland | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Riley Cornelio has terrible command, and the team may still see him as a starter, but he’s here in the bullpen now and has a solid mix in his slider and fastball that is as good as, if not better than, Varland’s or Beeter’s. I’d be interested in seeing how he performs in an inning of work.
SDP 3 – BAL 7
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wandy Peralta | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| David Morgan | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Wandy Peralta was throwing 1.5 MPH harder here, bringing his fastball (sinker) closer to average, which, with his changeup and slider, could work.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Nunez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Keegan Akin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Yennier Cano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 56% CSW |
| Andrew Kittredge | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Anthony Nunez went four-seam/sweeper here for the most part, with just 3 sinkers (1 changeup), and this mix should be the focus moving forward for him.
DET 2 – CLE 3
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jacob Waguespack | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Drew Sommers | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Drew Anderson | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Ty Madden | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Drew Sommers velocity was up here at 95.5 MPH, and there’s definitely a useful left-handed reliever here with his slider/sinker combo, especially with that velocity. How will it hold up against right-handed hitters? That’s the question.
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter Gaddis – HLD (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Cade Smith – SV (22) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Hunter Gaddis got through this outing unscathed, AND facing only left-handed hitters. McKinstry did rip a ground ball that Hoskins made a nice play on, before getting Outman to fly out, and McGongile did hit a ball to the warning track as well.
TEX 1 – BOS 10
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cal Quantrill | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Luis Curvelo | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Blegh
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyron Guerrero | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Danny Coulombe | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Tommy Kahnle | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- It’s only been 8.1 innings for Tyron Guerrero, but the stuff looks impressive. He has a legit two-pitch mix with his sinker/slider (three with the changeup?), and I wonder if he’s a name that comes up around the trade deadline, given that he’s 35 years old (not a free agent until 2030 though).
ARI 5 – CIN 2
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Thompson | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Taylor Clarke | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Kevin Ginkel – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 5 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Paul Sewald – SV (16) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Paul Sewald did not have his best stuff or command, but it didn’t matter here. He’s been a machine over the past month, with a 0.90 ERA, 0.40 WHIP, and 26.5% K rate over his past 10 innings.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tejay Antone | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Zach Maxwell | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Brock Burke – L (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Brock Burke got some terrible luck here as Dunn dropped a fly ball with two outs and the game tied at 2-2. A run scored on the error, and then Burke allowed a bloop single to Lawlar, which scored more. The walks came back to hurt him, but that hit, and three runs scoring should never have happened.
ATL 5 – NYM 7
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| JR Ritchie | 5.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 5 K | 8 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- JR Ritchie probably fills the roster spot vacated by Strider after this one.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cionel Pérez – W (3) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Huascar Brazobán | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 58% CSW |
| Brooks Raley | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Devin Williams – SV (10) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Brooks Raley has been shaky lately, and his velocity was down here (88.7 MPH), but he gave us a Devin Williams save, so thanks for that. Williams gave up an infield hit and an opposite-field single in this one, but otherwise was dominant.
NYY 5 – TOR 8
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jake Bird | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Brent Headrick | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Fernando Cruz | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Camilo Doval has not thrown the changeup in two games now and has gone back to the slider/sinker. That can work, it should work, but Doval’s command needs to lock in.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Fluharty – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Braydon Fisher – HLD (8) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers – HLD (15) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Louis Varland – SV (12) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- Not that it was needed, but Louis Varland’s fastball was up 2 MPH here, and he was flat out disgusting. Somehow, Bellinger got on top of a 100 MPH fastball at the top of the zone for a groundout to short, but no other ball was put in play.
LAD 2 – CHW 8
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blake Treinen | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Edgardo Henriquez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Jonathan Hernández | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 4 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
- Blake Treinen currently has an 8.10 ERA and 2.40 WHIP with a 0% K-BB rate this month. The stuff is just a mess right now, so he may want to focus on fixing that instead of worrying about the design on his hat.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bryan Hudson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Trevor Richards | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Chris Murphy | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 7% CSW |
- Interesting to see Bryan Hudson in the 6th inning here, and I wonder what the plan would have been for the last three innings had this game stayed close.
PHI 0 – MIL 6
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tanner Banks | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Chase Shugart | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Tim Mayza | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Chase Shugart has been more good than bad this season, and I don’t really have a reason to believe he’ll just fall apart anytime soon. He looks like a solid depth/middle relief option.
HOU 10 – KCR 8
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Okert | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| AJ Blubaugh | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Nate Pearson – W (1) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Enyel De Los Santos | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Bryan King – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Josh Hader – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- This bullpens still trying to find itself in front of Josh Hader, and unfortunately, Enyel De Los Santos did not have his best stuff here. He got Singled Out, all on fastballs at the top of the zone, which may be a tough place for him to live with the four-seamer he’s got (95 MPH, low iVB/HAVAA). He’s still been the most consistent righty in that bullpen, and I don’t see a better alternative yet.
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Black | 2.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 3 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Steven Cruz | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Lucas Erceg | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Eli Morgan | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Matt Strahm | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Since being recalled back in early May, we’ve seen an improved Steven Cruz with a 3.07 ERA (3.40 SIERA) and 31% K rate, but the walks are still an issue (13% BB, 1.30 WHIP). We know the fastball is good, but the slider looks better as well; we just need to get the command piece of the puzzle locked in now.
- Matt Strahm has now allowed 5 home runs over his past 7 innings of work, all of which have been to right-handed hitters. The stuff is on a steady decline, unfortunately.
STL 8 – MIN 9
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| George Soriano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Gordon Graceffo – HLD (4) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Ryne Stanek – L (1) | 1.1 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 9% CSW |
- Ryne Stanek’s fastball was down 1 MPH here, but of the three home runs he allowed, they were each on a different pitch. The splitter to Clemens wasn’t even bad; it looked like Clemens was just sitting on it. Lewis got the fastball to lead off the next inning, as Stanek left a 95 MPH fastball middle in to him. The last one was a slider down and in to Lee that he turned on. Stanek had been looking better lately, but he should still be off your radar for now.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Rogers – HLD (7) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Eric Orze – BS (4) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Anthony Banda – W (2) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
| Andrew Morris – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- This bullpen is so bad and so frustrating. Yoendrys Gómez entered in the 8th inning and wound up getting Singled Out with the last single potentially being a double play ball to end the inning and keep the game tied. He’s still the best option in this bullpen until further notice.
TBR 3 – LAA 4
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Silseth – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Mitch Farris – HLD (1) | 2.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Ryan Zeferjahn – SV (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- I can’t believe how long it took Suzuki to get Mitch Farris out of this game, and I’m also a little shocked that he went to Ryan Zeferjahn for the final out, with Bachman and Yates available. Zeferjahn has been pitching better as of late, but you’d think Bachman would be the choice in this spot. It worked out with Zeferjahn, so perhaps he’ll get the next save chance, too?
COL 4 – ATH 6
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jeff Criswell | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Seth Halvorsen | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Zach Agnos – L (2) | 2.2 IP | 3 ER | 5 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Brennan Bernardino | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 56% CSW |
- Nope.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Sterner – BS (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Mason Barnett – W (1) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Hogan Harris – SV (6) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Mason Barnett has put up some solid numbers lately; unfortunately, his arsenal does not include an average or better offering (maybe the slider), so I’m not sure how long this can last.
CHC 5 – SFG 1
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hoby Milner | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Trent Thornton | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Blegh
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erik Miller | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| JT Brubaker | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Sam Hentges | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Ryan Walker | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Ryan Walker is back, and he looked fine here. The stuff was OK and the command pretty good, although the Hoerner lineout was hit 101 MPH and had an xBA of .600. I’m hesitant to buy back in, but he’ll probably be somewhere near the end of the holds list on Tuesday.
