Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
STL 9 – MIN 6
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Svanson – W (2) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Ryne Stanek | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Chris Roycroft | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| JoJo Romero | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Riley O’Brien | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Riley O’Brien started things off here with three straight walks. He got the next three batters out and limited the damage to just one run, but it was also a non-save chance. The command issues have flared up more often recently, and I think it’s fair to assume he’s on the hot seat here.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Lawrence – L (3) | 0.2 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Travis Adams | 2.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- Nope
NYY 3 – TOR 1
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fernando Cruz – W (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| David Bednar – SV (14) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 54% CSW |
- David Bednar’s fastball was up over a MPH here at 96.9, and we didn’t see a curveball as he got ahead with the fastball and mixed in the splitter. We could be in for a good summer if he’s able to sit around 97 MPH with that heater.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Rogers | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Louis Varland – L (2) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Louis Varland got beat by the classic “bloop and a blast” here as Bellinger started things off with a bloop single before Varland hung a curveball to Goldschmidt for the go-ahead home run. Bad day, but nothing to be concerned about moving forward.
SDP 9 – BAL 3
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yuki Matsui | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 57% CSW |
| Bradgley Rodriguez | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jason Adam | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Ron Marinaccio | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Adrian Morejon | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Yuki Matsui was throwing harder here, and it’s nice to see him settle back in after a couple of rocky outings.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keegan Akin | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Albert Suárez | 4.0 IP | 3 ER | 6 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Blegh
SEA 3 – WSN 8
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gabe Speier | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| José A. Ferrer | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
| Eduard Bazardo | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Alex Hoppe | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Eduard Bazardo was throwing harder here, but still allowed a hit, and that WHIP is still an issue with him.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PJ Poulin – HLD (5) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Orlando Ribalta – HLD (4) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Richard Lovelady – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
| Brad Lord | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- Brad Lord isn’t a prototypical closer; he doesn’t have closer stuff, but he’s the steadiest arm in this bullpen right now, so why not just let him finish games for now?
MIA 2 – PIT 3
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| John King | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Calvin Faucher | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Cade Gibson | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Michael Petersen | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
| Anthony Bender – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
- Anthony Bender got two quick strikeouts before allowing back-to-back singles, seeing-eye singles, and then things unraveled as he walked Triolo and hit Horwitz with his first pitch.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Montgomery – BS (1) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Yohan Ramírez – W (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Gregory Soto – SV (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Mason Montgomery gave up a single and a double here, and the bigger concern is the fact that his fastball was under 97 MPH. The velo was down 1.5 MPH, as was the iVB on the fastball. Hopefully, there’s no underlying injury here, but this doesn’t look promising.
ARI 1 – CIN 2
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Juan Morillo – L (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 67% CSW |
- Juan Morillo hung a 0-2 slider to Marte here for the game-winning home run, and that was the only mistake Morillo made here.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Caleb Ferguson | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Chase Petty – W (1) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Tony Santillan – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Tony Santillan was throwing harder again, almost sitting at 96 MPH, and he induced three weak groundouts to end this one and secure the save. The new velocity boost could be the ticket to him hanging on to the closer role at least until Emilio Pagán returns.
DET 1 – CLE 3
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Finnegan | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Tyler Holton | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Kenley Jansen | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- Kenley Jansen looked good in his first game off the IL, sitting at 93.4 MPH on his cutter and mixed in a nasty slider to Bazzana for a K here as well.
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Colin Holderman – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Tim Herrin – HLD (11) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Cade Smith – SV (23) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
- Colin Holderman has been living up to his name recently, and he showed some increased stuff here with the fastball sitting at 98 MPH. That curveball is a real weapon against lefties, too.
TEX 3 – BOS 6
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cole Winn – L (2) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Robby Ahlstrom | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Peyton Gray | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- This bullpen depth’s being tested.
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Justin Slaten | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Garrett Whitlock – W (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Tyron Guerrero – HLD (3) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Danny Coulombe – HLD (5) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Aroldis Chapman – SV (14) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
- Good news for the Red Sox bullpen as Garrett Whitlock’s velocity was way up here at 96.3 MPH, and the command was great.
ATL 3 – NYM 1
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Lee – HLD (14) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Didier Fuentes – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Robert Suarez – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Raisel Iglesias – SV (14) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Robert Suarez velocity was back up over 99 MPH here, which was great to see, and we even got a strikeout from him. Didier Fuentes velocity was also up over 1 MPH here as he averaged 98.1 MPH, and I love the 50/50 pitch mix split he’s been showing lately.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Austin Warren | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Daniel Duarte | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
- Daniel Duarte has an interesting mix with his sweeper/changeup and cutter (and occasional fastball), but this bullpen is pretty deep at the moment.
LAD 7 – CHW 1
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Vesia | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Alex Vesia threw just eight pitches here as he entered for Yamamoto in the ninth. Not much to take away from this one.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joe Rock | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 5 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Brandon Eisert | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Tyler Davis | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- Meh
HOU 8 – KCR 7
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Enyel De Los Santos – BS (1) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Alimber Santa | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Bryan King – W (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Bryan Abreu – SV (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Enyel De Los Santos stuff was slightly down, and the command was not great. On the flip side, Bryan King’s fastball velocity was up, and he had better command of the pitch (for the most part). Alimber Santa threw just three fastballs, and that’s probably going to be his M.O. moving forward.
- Bryan Abreu allowed a double to Witt before getting a double play on a lineout to Pena at SS to end the game. Lucky outing from him, but we’ll take it, I guess.
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| John Schreiber | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Daniel Lynch IV – HLD (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Matt Strahm – BS (3) | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Alex Lange – L (4) | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- John Schreiber gave up a run here, but the velocity was at 95 MPH, and I really think there may need to be a discussion soon about Schreiber vs. Lange in the ninth (Lynch has come back down to earth, and Strahm allowed his sixth home run in 8 innings).
- Alex Lange got the last two outs of the eighth before opening up the ninth with a leadoff walk. An infield chopper to Yordan moved the runner over to third, who eventually scored on a botched double play that somehow was not an error.
PHI 9 – MIL 8
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Mayza – W (2) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Orion Kerkering | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| José Alvarado | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Brad Keller | 1.0 IP | 3 ER | 3 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran – SV (18) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
- Brad Keller may be the fifth or sixth-best reliever in this bullpen right now, and the Phillies need to act accordingly (#FreeBowlan).
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chad Patrick | 1.0 IP | 4 ER | 5 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 7 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Drew Rom | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Joel Kuhnel | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Trevor Megill | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Joel Kuhnel got back to Milwaukee, and he’s still throwing 99 MPH, so I don’t know what to tell you. He’s still hittable, so there’s that, but with this Brewer-induced velocity increase, you’ll probably at least want to keep an eye on him.
- Trevor Megill’s velocity was also still up here, as he averaged 99.2 MPH on his fastball, and the single to Realmuto was a flare (while the walk was intentional).
COL 5 – ATH 7
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jaden Hill | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Seth Halvorsen | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Juan Mejia | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- Seth Halvorsen’s velocity has fluctuated since being recalled by the Rockies, but he was up over 99 MPH here, and he has been one of the team’s better relievers recently.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José Suarez – W (1) | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Scott Barlow – HLD (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Mark Leiter Jr. Jr. – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Elvis Alvarado – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Elvis Alvarado’s fastball was averaging 101.5 here, the slider looks like a legit whiff pitch again, and the command is not terrible…there’s obviously a lot to like here. However, I’d still proceed with caution and temper expectations given the team situation (Harris also closing?) and players’ past volatility (is this just a hot streak?).
CHC 6 – SFG 1
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethan Roberts | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Caleb Thielbar | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Phil Maton | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Phil Maton continues throwing that sinker more and more (only one curveball here), and I’m sure he was using this outing as an opportunity to work on some things, but I just can’t see this increased sinker usage ending well.
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reiver Sanmartin | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Sam Hentges | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Ryan Walker | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Dylan Smith | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Caleb Kilian | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Caleb Kilian is now officially the “closer” for the Giants, according to Vitello, but somehow I don’t think I’d be surprised to see someone else get the next save for this team. I’d love to see Dylan Smith get a chance eventually.
TBR 0 – LAA 8
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Garrett Cleavinger | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Craig Kimbrel | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Cole Sulser | 0.2 IP | 4 ER | 5 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Cam Booser | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Craig Kimbrel made his return to the Rays bullpen here, and while it didn’t go so well, the stuff looked solid (and he was much better than Sulser at least).
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samy Natera Jr. – HLD (1) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Brent Suter | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Kirby Yates | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Kirby Yates got Palacios, Mesa Jr., and Feduccia here in the ninth up 8 runs, so don’t get too excited about these results.
