Bryan Hudson’s fastball was up 1.2 MPH to 93.2 MPH…but Grant Taylor’s fastball was down 2.2 MPH to 97 MPH. I hope we don’t see Taylor’s stuff disappear just as he’s settling into the closer role here.

Brock Stewart fastball was up here, and the changeup and sweeper looked great. There’s just a lot of competition to beat out for consistent holds chances (if that’s even possible).

Great pitch mix from David Bednar here with just three curveballs on 32 pitches thrown, and the four-seamer even had a little extra velocity.

Ryan Watson had a little extra juice on his fastball here and threw the cutter more, but the three fastballs are just questionable at best still.

NYM 6 – PHI 1

New York Mets

Huascar Brazobán’s sinker was up 1.3 MPH, but it’s hard to buy in given his secondary offerings fully.

Philadelphia Phillies

Seth Johnson could be a big second-half riser with Keller going down, but the command needs to improve first. The fastball/slider mix can be legit, though.

TEX 5 – ATL 8

Despite the impressive results, Robby Ahlstrom’s fastball was down almost a MPH here, and I’m not sure if this mix will cut it.

Dylan Lee’s fastball was down nearly 1 MPH here, but I’m not overly concerned, as that happens with him every now and then (especially in these lower-leverage situations).

PIT 7 – CLE 1

Pittsburgh Pirates

Mason Montgomery went sinker-heavy again here, which is fine; it just may lead to a lower whiff rate moving forward. He remains the best reliever in this bullpen.

Cleveland Guardians

Will Dion may have the makings of a crafty lefty eventually, but needs a little more polish.

BAL 5 – HOU 2

Grant Wolfram with the #BigSaveEnergy here as his fastball was up a MPH and he did a fine job filling in for Tyler Wells, who had pitched the previous two days.

Houston Astros

Pete Fairbanks gave up a single, a walk, and a home run to Contreras on a brutally hung cutter 1-2. I’ve tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but at this point, the stuff is not recovering, and I think Michael Petersen is becoming a near must-roster where you need to chase saves.

Milwaukee Brewers

Aaron Ashby currently holds a terrible 1.44 WHIP, and as far as I can see, no 20-game winner has held a WHIP above 1.40 since the 1950’s.

I know he gave up the run, but Clayton Beeter remains far and away the best closer option here (not saying much) and should have more than eight saves on the season.

Elvis Alvarado gave up home runs to Abrams and Crews here, and this outing probably means he won’t see a save chance again for about a month (or longer) given how the A’s operate. Either way, Sacramento will make it really hard to trust anyone in this bullpen.

Are we now back to Ryan Zeferjahn as the Angels closer again? I’m fine with it; in fact, the best late-inning trio for them appears to be Zeferjahn, Sam Bachman, and Samy Natera Jr. Just remember how poor Zeferjahn’s command/control can get (the home run to Greene was on a hanging sweeper).

SFG 3 – SEA 6

San Francisco Giants
