Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
CHW 3 – TOR 0
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bryan Hudson – HLD (6) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Grant Taylor – SV (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Bryan Hudson’s fastball was up 1.2 MPH to 93.2 MPH…but Grant Taylor’s fastball was down 2.2 MPH to 97 MPH. I hope we don’t see Taylor’s stuff disappear just as he’s settling into the closer role here.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Braydon Fisher | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Mason Fluharty | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Lazaro Estrada | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- Love to see this from Mason Fluharty. Hopefully he can get on a little run here.
LAD 8 – NYY 2
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Hill | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Angel Chivilli | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Jake Bird | 0.1 IP | 5 ER | 4 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
- Angel Chivilli might be a glitch in the matrix, as I believe his stuff is much better than how it grades out stuff-wise, given some of the funky movement profiles.
LAD 1 – NYY 2
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Hurt | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Edgardo Henriquez | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Jack Dreyer | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Brock Stewart | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Alex Vesia | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 80% CSW |
| Evan Phillips – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Brock Stewart fastball was up here, and the changeup and sweeper looked great. There’s just a lot of competition to beat out for consistent holds chances (if that’s even possible).
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paul Blackburn | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
| Brent Headrick – HLD (11) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Fernando Cruz – BS (3) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| David Bednar – W (4) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 8 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Great pitch mix from David Bednar here with just three curveballs on 32 pitches thrown, and the four-seamer even had a little extra velocity.
TBR 1 – BOS 6
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Craig Kimbrel | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Chris Roycroft | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
- Not going to fall for Craig Kimbrel despite the new sinker looking intriguing.
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greg Weissert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jovani Morán | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Ryan Watson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Ryan Watson had a little extra juice on his fastball here and threw the cutter more, but the three fastballs are just questionable at best still.
NYM 6 – PHI 1
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A.J. Minter | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 7% CSW |
| Huascar Brazobán | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Cionel Pérez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
- Huascar Brazobán’s sinker was up 1.3 MPH, but it’s hard to buy in given his secondary offerings fully.
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Mayza | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Max Lazar | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Seth Johnson | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Seth Johnson could be a big second-half riser with Keller going down, but the command needs to improve first. The fastball/slider mix can be legit, though.
TEX 5 – ATL 8
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Robby Ahlstrom | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Cole Winn | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Tyler Alexander | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Peyton Gray | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Ben Peoples | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Despite the impressive results, Robby Ahlstrom’s fastball was down almost a MPH here, and I’m not sure if this mix will cut it.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Dodd – HLD (5) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Didier Fuentes – HLD (10) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Dylan Lee | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Raisel Iglesias | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Dylan Lee’s fastball was down nearly 1 MPH here, but I’m not overly concerned, as that happens with him every now and then (especially in these lower-leverage situations).
PIT 7 – CLE 1
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Montgomery | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Isaac Mattson | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
- Mason Montgomery went sinker-heavy again here, which is fine; it just may lead to a lower whiff rate moving forward. He remains the best reliever in this bullpen.
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Franco Aleman | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Hunter Gaddis | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Will Dion | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Will Dion may have the makings of a crafty lefty eventually, but needs a little more polish.
BAL 5 – HOU 2
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rico Garcia | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Grant Wolfram – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Grant Wolfram with the #BigSaveEnergy here as his fastball was up a MPH and he did a fine job filling in for Tyler Wells, who had pitched the previous two days.
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bryan King | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Kai-Wei Teng | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Cristian Javier | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- I like Kai-Wei Teng back in the bullpen but also don’t understand why his fastball was down a MPH in the role.
SDP 19 – KCR 2
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yuki Matsui – W (1) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 53% CSW |
| Randy Vásquez – HLD (1) | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Wandy Peralta | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Yuki Matsui’s fastball was up a MPH, which I will gladly take (along with the results).
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Strahm | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Beck Way | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Lucas Erceg | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Tyler Tolbert | 1.0 IP | 6 ER | 6 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- Blegh.
MIA 1 – MIL 3
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cade Gibson – HLD (2) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Michael Petersen – HLD (17) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Pete Fairbanks – L (4) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Pete Fairbanks gave up a single, a walk, and a home run to Contreras on a brutally hung cutter 1-2. I’ve tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but at this point, the stuff is not recovering, and I think Michael Petersen is becoming a near must-roster where you need to chase saves.
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chad Patrick | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Aaron Ashby | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Grant Anderson – W (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Aaron Ashby currently holds a terrible 1.44 WHIP, and as far as I can see, no 20-game winner has held a WHIP above 1.40 since the 1950’s.
MIN 1 – CHC 10
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Travis Adams | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Kody Funderburk | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Woo-Suk Go | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- The breakers are nice from Woo-Suk Go, and maybe, just maybe, the fastball is OK enough for him to stick around?
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phil Maton | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Drew Pomeranz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 5% CSW |
- Phil Maton is back and still having the same issues.
CIN 9 – COL 6
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brock Burke | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Sam Moll | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Emilio Pagán | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 41% CSW |
- It was Coors, so I’m not too worried, but Emilio Pagán did not look particularly good here.
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tanner Gordon | 5.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Jordan Romano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Don’t fall for the Jordan Romano trap.
WSN 5 – ATH 2
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tom Cosgrove | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Clayton Beeter – SV (8) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- I know he gave up the run, but Clayton Beeter remains far and away the best closer option here (not saying much) and should have more than eight saves on the season.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elvis Alvarado | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Brady Basso | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Geoff Hartlieb | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Elvis Alvarado gave up home runs to Abrams and Crews here, and this outing probably means he won’t see a save chance again for about a month (or longer) given how the A’s operate. Either way, Sacramento will make it really hard to trust anyone in this bullpen.
DET 2 – LAA 3
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drew Anderson – L (4) | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Brenan Hanifee | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Tyler Holton | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Kenley Jansen | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- More sub-92 MPH cutters from Kenley Jansen here, which I guess can be fine, but do you really trust it?
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samy Natera Jr. – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Chase Silseth – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Sam Bachman – HLD (15) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Ryan Zeferjahn – SV (3) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Are we now back to Ryan Zeferjahn as the Angels closer again? I’m fine with it; in fact, the best late-inning trio for them appears to be Zeferjahn, Sam Bachman, and Samy Natera Jr. Just remember how poor Zeferjahn’s command/control can get (the home run to Greene was on a hanging sweeper).
SFG 3 – SEA 6
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Hentges | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Adrian Houser – L (7) | 3.0 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Sam Hentges fastball was down over a MPH here, and it’s not like the stuff was looking great to begin with.
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eduard Bazardo – HLD (19) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Gabe Speier – HLD (13) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Andrés Muñoz – SV (17) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 78% CSW |
- Andrés Muñoz continues to trend in the right direction and should be in for a big second half.
STL 7 – ARI 8
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryne Stanek – HLD (16) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| George Soriano | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Gordon Graceffo – BS (1) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Luis Gastelum – L (1) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
- Meh.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Drey Jameson | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Philip Abner | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Taylor Clarke | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Ryan Thompson | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Juan Morillo – W (3) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Juan Morillo went heavy sinker usage over his four-seamer here, and I dig it. He hasn’t pitched poorly enough to warrant just the two holds since the start of May.
