Graham Ashcraft made his return here, and we got mixed results. The stuff was down a bit, and the command was not great (to be expected).

Dylan Dodd — Sinker up 1.2 MPH (95.0 vs. 93.8 season avg)
Raisel Iglesias got through this one for a save, but things were interesting as he allowed a lead-off hit to Stott before getting a ground out from Hill. With Stott on third and the infield in, Cruz hit a line drive right at the shortstop (.520 xBA), and Iglesias finished things off by getting Sosa to strike out on a changeup.

Philadelphia Phillies

Alex McFarlane was trusted in a big spot here, and the stuff was great; he just made a crucial mistake or two. He left a slider over the middle of the plate to Baldwin for a double before throwing 7 straight four-seamers to Acuna, who finally timed him up and pulled a 100.5 MPH fastball up and away over the fence in left-center. A slider in that spot is likely an easy strikeout.
Brooks Raley — Sinker up 1.2 MPH (91.5 vs. 90.3 season avg)
Jhoan Duran’s splitter was the problem here, and I wonder if he’s been a bit too splitter happy lately. Similar to Andre Munoz, who was throwing his slider too much earlier in the season, Duran leans heavily on this splitter, a good pitch and all, but he also has a 101 MPH fastball in his back pocket. He threw four fastballs here; all four generated whiffs (throw it more dude).

Daniel Palencia — Four-Seamer down 1.4 MPH (97.8 vs. 99.2 season avg). Yeah, it appears that Palencia is not near 100%. I’m not sure what the play is here for the Cubs, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him wind up back on the IL.

Josh Ekness — Four-Seamer usage 20% (-34 pts vs. 54% usual). He leaned on the breakers and also mixed in some sinkers. The four-seamer’s not a bad pitch; he just has a command issue with it right now.

Juan Morillo — Four-Seamer down 1.8 MPH (96.9 vs. 98.7 season avg). That’s quite the drop-off. Hopefully, just a small blip on the radar.
Kevin Ginkel — Four-Seamer up 1.3 MPH (96.9 vs. 95.6 season avg). Ginkel has pitched pretty well in save chances this year, as the stuff typically ticks up like this. Still pretty mediocre stuff overall, but hey, can’t argue with these results.

Ty Johnson made his debut here, and this is a fun arm to watch moving forward. The fastball can be a big-time plus offering with better command, and the slider is a good enough secondary wrinkle off of it.

Garrett Acton — Slider usage 19% (-26 pts vs. 45% usual). He’s just a one-pitch guy who had no control of that one pitch here, unfortunately.
