Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
LAA 2 – CLE 3
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Silseth | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Drew Pomeranz | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Jose Fermin | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
- No strikeouts from the bullpen guys with three walks and a hit allowed?
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hunter Gaddis – W (1) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 5 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Tim Herrin – HLD (2) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Erik Sabrowski – HLD (15) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Franco Aleman – HLD (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Cade Smith – SV (12) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- It’s cool to see the trust in Franco Aleman and the stuff is as good as we thought, but the command is also as bad as we thought. Hunter Gaddis has looked better in his past two outings, but maybe they want to see him in this fireman role?
NYY 6 – BAL 2
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fernando Cruz | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
| Jake Bird | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Tim Hill – HLD (7) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| David Bednar | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Tim Hill stealing a hold right here is why he’s on the radar in holds leagues. He’s really the left-handed Tyler Rogers.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Josh Walker | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Yennier Cano | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Andrew Kittredge | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Tyler Wells | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Good to see Andrew Kittredge fire off a clean inning here (the stuff still doesn’t look right, though), and also good to see Tyler Wells back in action with a new approach. Wells threw his cutter more than any other pitch here (8 times), getting three whiffs and a called strike with it.
WSN 10 – CIN 4
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brad Lord – W (2) | 2.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Paxton Schultz | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Zak Kent | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- The Reds lineup made these Nationals relievers look better than they are, but I will say Zak Kent’s stuff was way up in this one. It didn’t result in a clean inning, but the stuff did look much better for him.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Moll | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Luis Mey | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 5 K | 10 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Connor Phillips | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Tony Santillan | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Pierce Johnson | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Connor Phillips continues to walk people, Tony Santillan continues to allow home runs, and Pierce Johnson continues to look unimpressive…but we really should be talking about Luis Mey. The second pitch of his outing here, he left a first pitch sinker middle-middle to Lile, an obvious mistake that Lile took advantage of. After that, he struck out five of the next six hitters he faced, leaning more on the slider than he has in the past. In fact, his slider usage is now up almost 20% this season, and if he sticks around this 50/50 pitch split, while also staying around the zone, he could be a real problem for hitters.
COL 1 – PIT 3
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seth Halvorsen | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Victor Vodnik | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Jaden Hill | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Jimmy Herget | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Everyone here is frustrating per usual, and this tweet about sums up the Rockies bullpen.
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gregory Soto – SV (4) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Gregory Soto got two outs before allowing back-to-back doubles, but it wound up not hurting him here. The fastball velocity ranges for him as he was in the 96 MPH range here. As long as he’s throwing strikes, it shouldn’t make a huge difference.
PHI 2 – BOS 1
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José Alvarado – HLD (6) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran – SV (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Jhoan Duran made things interesting as he allowed a hit and a walk before striking out Rafaela and getting Mayer to ground out to end the game. The velo was down here, and the stuff overall wasn’t as great as it typically is, but there’s probably nothing to worry about.
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brayan Bello | 6.1 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 5 K | 12 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Tyler Samaniego | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Zack Kelly | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- I want to get excited about Tyler Samaniego, and it was nice to see the velo on his fastballs up here, but the hard stuff is still hard to trust without exceptional command.
TBR 7 – TOR 6
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Casey Legumina | 1.2 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 34% CSW |
| Cole Sulser | 0.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Kevin Kelly – BS (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Ian Seymour – W (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 55% CSW |
| Garrett Cleavinger – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
- If you want an example of how dumb reliever-specific stats are, how does it make sense that Kevin Kelly gets the blown save here and not Cole Sulser? Kelly came in and got an easy groundball that Caminero booted at third, and gets stuck with a blown save.
- Garrett Cleavinger’s velocity was back down around 96 MPH, unfortunately, but at least that’s still better than where he was earlier in the season.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tommy Nance | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Jeff Hoffman | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Louis Varland | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Braydon Fisher – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- Jeff Hoffman tried to sneak a middle in fastball by Vilade here on a 3-1 count, and Vilade hammered it down the LF line for a home run. The only mistake Hoffman made (the DeLuca “double” was dumb), yet it could set him back in his pursuit of getting back into the closer mix.
DET 2 – NYM 10
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Holton | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Burch Smith | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Enmanuel De Jesús | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Ricky Vanasco | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Jake Rogers | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Burch Smith had been looking kind of interesting, but the last couple of outings have not been great. Still have some hope for that four-seam/curveball combo.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brooks Raley | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Austin Warren | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Austin Warren’s stuff has been grading out consistently in the A- to A range this season, which is a nice surprise. Can the command be good enough for this to be worth chasing, though?
CHC 2 – ATL 5
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Rolison | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Jacob Webb | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
| Trent Thornton | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Jacob Webb has been a steady rock in this bullpen the past month as the Cubs have lost numerous relievers to injury. Webb holds a sub-3 ERA, 22.2% K-BB, and 17.5% SwStr rate over his past 12.2 innings.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Didier Fuentes – W (2) | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Dylan Lee – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Raisel Iglesias – SV (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 46% CSW |
- Didier Fuentes just dominating with his four-seamer here was fun to watch. He started the outing off with a slider and splitter before going 29/34 fastballs the rest of the way. I know there are still high hopes for him as a starter, but he can be a legitimate bullpen weapon with his three-pitch mix and the increased velocity in shorter stints.
KCR 5 – CHW 6
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Luinder Avila | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
| Daniel Lynch IV | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 54% CSW |
| Matt Strahm – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Daniel Lynch IV keeps dominating, and it’s been fun seeing his fastball get better with each outing. The slider here did the most damage (baffling Murakami, Montgomery, and Meidroth) despite not being that great of a pitch. It’s working, though.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Schweitzer – HLD (1) | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Grant Taylor – BS (1) | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Seranthony Domínguez – W (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Bryan Hudson – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- The velo is still down for Grant Taylor, and I probably should have dropped him further down the hold rankings this week.
- Seranthony Domínguez got the 8th inning here to face the 8-9-1 hitters in the Royals lineup in a tie game. That’s certainly an interesting development, and it led to Bryan Hudson getting his second save of the season as he got the 2-3-4 hitters in that Royals lineup in the ninth inning. I don’t think this is any sort of changing of the guard, but maybe we do see more of a save split with Hudson and Domínguez moving forward?
MIA 0 – MIN 3
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Josh Ekness | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Lake Bachar | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
- Great stuff for Josh Ekness, and terrible command should not be a surprise. But my big takeaway here is, what does Lake Bachar need to do to earn some high-leverage opportunities?
SDP 4 – MIL 6
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Waldron – L (2) | 2.2 IP | 6 ER | 8 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Wandy Peralta | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Yuki Matsui | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
- OK Yuki Matsui. The stuff isn’t exactly electric, but the command has been great for him. We’ll take it.
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shane Drohan – HLD (2) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Chad Patrick – HLD (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Trevor Megill – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Abner Uribe – SV (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- Trevor Megill allowed two hits and a run here (the “double” bounced of Mitchells glove)…BUT it was nice to see not only his velocity back around 98 MPH, but he also had pretty good command in this one as well. I think this is a positive step in the right direction, more than a setback with the run allowed.
ARI 4 – TEX 7
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryan Thompson | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Brandon Pfaadt | 3.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 5 K | 8 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Brandon Pfaadt looked good here, and he’ll probably get a chance to start again whenever the Diamondbacks lose a starter to injury.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gavin Collyer | 0.0 IP | 3 ER | 1 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
| Jacob Latz – SV (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Another save for Jacob Latz…but the velo was still below 94.4 MPH and no strikeouts again. Even with the stuff and command down, he still made this outing easy.
SEA 10 – HOU 2
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Hoppe | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Domingo González | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
- Domingo González made his debut here, and there’s kind of an interesting slider here, but the fastballs are meh (the sidearm angle may help it play up).
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jayden Murray | 3.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| AJ Blubaugh | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 7 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Hmm, so on the one hand, this line from AJ Blubaugh looks rough…but the velocity was back up 2 MPH, so that gets me excited a little bit. Will that velocity stick this time (it didn’t after the first week)?
STL 6 – ATH 4
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ryne Stanek – HLD (7) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| JoJo Romero – HLD (13) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| George Soriano – HLD (8) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Riley O’Brien – SV (12) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
- Riley O’Brien got his 12th save here, but the velocity was down nearly 1.5 MPH on his sinker and 2.5 MPH. on his slider. Not a cause for concern yet, but something to monitor with O’Brien as he was not nearly as dominant here as he has been.
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Joel Kuhnel | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Brooks Kriske | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Scott Barlow | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Mark Leiter Jr. Jr. | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Scott Barlow continues to be one of the most consistent arms in this A’s bullpen despite a fastball under 90 MPH. I just have a hard time buying in on him in holds leagues with his home ballpark.
SFG 6 – LAD 2
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Gage – HLD (5) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Joel Peguero | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Sam Hentges | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Caleb Kilian – SV (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Joel Peguero’s fastball velocity was down 2.5 MPH in this one, which hopefully is not a cause for concern, but he did just come off the IL in the past week.
- Caleb Kilian continues to see closer usage and picked up his second save of the season here. However, I don’t love the direction the stuff has been trending lately, and the locations are still messy. That being said, he doesn’t have any competition here outside of Keaton Winn and potentially Erik Miller when he returns.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blake Treinen | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Edgardo Henriquez | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Jack Dreyer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- Jack Dreyer has quietly put together a phenomenal start to the season, but the lack of holds (just 3) has him under the radar for now. It’s just tough to trust anyone in this bullpen for consistent hold opportunities, not because they are bad; this is just how Roberts operates this bullpen, as no one has a set role outside of maybe the closer?
