Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
KCR 3 – DET 2
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daniel Lynch IV – W (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Alex Lange – SV (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Much better outing from Alex Lange here than what we had been seeing, and he actually had a lot of success with his sinker here as his primary bat misser. You’re still going to want to proceed with caution.
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kyle Finnegan – BS (7) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Tyler Holton | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Jacob Waguespack – L (1) | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Kyle Finnegan’s fastball was down nearly a MPH, which he can’t really survive on given that it’s already a middling fastball to begin with. That being said, it was the slider that gave up the home run (bad hanger to Salvy), and realistically that slider isn’t the answer either.
ARI 3 – WSN 5
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gerardo Carrillo | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Taylor Clarke | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Meh.
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eddy Yean – HLD (1) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Clayton Beeter – SV (9) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
- Clayton Beeter getting traditional closer usage?! In this economy? The fastball has been looking better (ish) lately, and the slider is still dope. Maybe he can become a real closer for the final two months?
LAA 2 – SFG 9
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brent Suter | 2.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 6 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Kirby Yates | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Tyler Heineman | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Brent Suter — Four-Seamer up 1.1 MPH (88.5 vs. 87.4 season avg)
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tristan Beck | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Keaton Winn | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 6 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Keaton Winn — Four-Seamer down 0.8 MPH (95.5 vs. 96.3 season avg)
TOR 6 – BOS 0
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alec Gamboa | 4.0 IP | 1 ER | 5 H | 1 BB | 6 K | 8 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- I prefer Alec Gamboa in shorter spurts, but this was a solid outing for him, and he definitely belongs in an MLB bullpen.
SDP 7 – MIA 2
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yuki Matsui – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Matt Waldron | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
- Nice outing from Yuki Matsui, who continues to have a mini-breakout. This may be the ceiling, though.
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dax Fulton | 2.0 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 3 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Oof. I still have hope for Dax Fulton; the Marlins just need to figure out a proper role for him.
NYY 3 – PHI 1
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Angel Chivilli – HLD (1) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Paul Blackburn – HLD (2) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| David Bednar – SV (20) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Not one strikeout from these relievers over the final ten outs? That’s not terribly surprising with Paul Blackburn getting six of the outs, but I’d expect something from Bednar.
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Mayza | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 10% CSW |
| Brian Keller | 3.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Kyle Backhus – L (1) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Seth Johnson | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 4 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| José Alvarado | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Jonathan Bowlan | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Jhoan Duran | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 4 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
- Somehow I don’t think Brian Keller is related to Brad Keller (who the Phillies just placed on the 60-day IL this week), and while Brad didn’t look great this season when healthy, Brian is still a step down and not someone worth chasing.
CLE 0 – TBR 3
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Will Dion | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 8 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Will Dion’s back, and he’ll give you this outing now and then, followed by an outing with a 2+ WHIP the next. Interesting skill set, just not on the fantasy roster yet.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cole Sulser – HLD (11) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Garrett Cleavinger – HLD (17) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Bryan Baker – SV (27) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- Bryan Baker’s fastball was still down here, but not as much as it was previously. I’m not terribly concerned that we may be on the precipice of some sort of drop-off.
CHC 11 – PIT 0
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaac Mattson | 0.1 IP | 3 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Ron Marinaccio | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Brandon Eisert | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Tyler Callihan | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Ron Marinaccio is just as effective as Dennis Santana these days, and Isaac Mattson can’t be trusted. The Pirates are just two games out of a Wild Card spot right now, and I’d at least love to see them add a right-handed bullpen piece (not a Senzatela type, I’m thinking more like Luke Weaver, or at least Emilio Pagán).
ATL 2 – BAL 3
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Victor Mederos | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 10 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Didier Fuentes – L (1) | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 8 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
- The bad news here from Didier Fuentes is that he gave up two hits and the go-ahead run (started by a double by Holliday that should have been caught). The fun news is that Fuentes’ fastball was up 2.5 MPH here as he threw 24 four-seamers averaging 99.6 MPH. That’s very exciting if it sticks (and Victor Mederos’ fastball was up 1.4 MPH as well).
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grant Wolfram – HLD (12) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Rico Garcia – BS (4) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Yennier Cano – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 56% CSW |
- Rico Garcia gave up another home run on a changeup he hung to Albies here, but the fastball was up as well once again, with the four-seamer sitting at 96.4. He’s looking more and more like his April self again, just dealing with some unfortunate home run luck at the same time (he was the luckiest pitcher in baseball in April after all).
ATH 0 – MIN 2
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| José Suarez | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Hayden Juenger | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Luis Medina | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Luis Medina’s fastball has been up lately and was sitting at 98.7 MPH here, but it has an Empty Velocity problem, and the secondaries aren’t exactly great either. If he wasn’t pitching half of his games in Sacramento, I’d maybe be more interested.
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Rogers – W (6) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Tommy Nance – HLD (6) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Andrew Morris – HLD (15) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Yoendrys Gómez – SV (26) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Andrew Morris had some extra juice here as his fastball was up 2.3 MPH (sitting 99.2 MPH here), and he also has a bit of an Empty Velocity issue, but not quite as problematic as Medina’s. The cutter is growing on me as a secondary offering, but Morris still seems likely to struggle to generate whiffs consistently.
HOU 4 – CHW 1
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bryan Abreu | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Bennett Sousa – HLD (3) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Josh Hader – SV (12) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Bryan Abreu’s fastball was back being sub 95 MPH here, and everything seemed to be located either middle-middle or way out of the zone, so maybe he isn’t quite back yet.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trevor Richards | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 8 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Tyler Schweitzer | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
- Blegh.
COL 5 – MIL 8
| Colorado Rockies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Juan Mejia | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 16% CSW |
| Tanner Gordon | 2.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 4 K | 9 Whiffs | 51% CSW |
- Nope.
| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chad Patrick | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Lance McCullers Jr. Jr. | 1.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 4 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Trevor Megill – SV (17) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Gotta love snagging a one-out save from Trevor Megill after the Brewers opened the ninth inning up six runs. Megill’s fastball looked great, and he didn’t even need the curve here.
LAD 4 – NYM 3
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alex Vesia – HLD (17) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Edgardo Henriquez – HLD (7) | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Tanner Scott – HLD (7) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Brock Stewart – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 45% CSW |
- Certainly some interesting usage here from the Dodgers bullpen with Tanner Scott entering in the eighth with two runners on to get the final out, which he did, but after he allowed a two-run double. He only threw six pitches, so you’d think he’d get the ninth inning as well, but Dave Roberts went ot Brock Stewart, who has looked great his past couple of times out. Things will get even more chaotic once Edwin Díaz returns on Wednesday.
| New York Mets | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daniel Duarte | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Huascar Brazobán | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
- Daniel Duarte has some interesting stuff to work with, but the arsenal may be too big right now, and there’s a lack of consistency.
CIN 0 – STL 7
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Moll | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Chase Petty | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
- Chase Petty’s fastball was down here, unfortunately, but he has shown glimpses of having a good fastball out of the bullpen.
| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gordon Graceffo | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Gordon Graceffo has a terrible fastball; there’s no sugarcoating it, but the slider can be really good, so as long as he picks and chooses his fastball, he could be OK, similar to a Tyler Kinley perhaps.
SEA 1 – TEX 7
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cole Wilcox | 1.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Nick Davila | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
- Only four relievers hold a K-BB rate below 0%, with Nick Davila and Kody Funderburk being the only ones currently on an MLB roster.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Robby Ahlstrom | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Ben Peoples | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Robby Ahlstrom has been pitching well as of late, but the sinker was down again here (1.4 MPH to 93.1 MPH), and the slider was even down stuff-wise. There’s opportunity in this bullpen, but I don’t love how the stuff is trending for Ahlstrom.
