Notes

Transactions and Schedule

  • Another Thursday, another light day. 14 teams were in action.
  • The Marlins placed Anthony Bender on the 15-day injured list without an injury designation.
  • Randy Rodríguez went on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation.

Yesterday’s Performances

DET 2 – SEA 1

W: Shelby Miller (6-7)

L: Andrés Muñoz (2-4)

BS: Andrés Muñoz (4)

HD: Yimi García (13)

SV: Jason Foley (16)

  • Shelby Miller earned his sixth win of the season with 1.1 perfect innings of relief. Miller took over from an excellent Kenta Maeda, who managed 5.2 scoreless innings as the bulk reliever in this game (or as the starter operating behind an opener, take your pick). Jason Foley then got the save opportunity and converted it for his 16th of the season.
  • Yimi García earned his 13th hold of the season, despite being charged with the tying run of the game. However it was actually Andrés Muñoz who allowed the inherited run to score, and a run of his own to score as well on a two-run HR that eventually led to the loss, Muñoz’ fourth of the season — it was also his fourth blown save of the season.

MIL 6 – LAD 4

W: Bryan Hudson (5-1)

L: Daniel Hudson (6-2)

BS: Daniel Hudson (7)

HD: Michael Kopech (5), Alex Vesia (10)

SV:  Devin Williams (3)

  • Bryan Hudson earned his fifth win of the season by throwing a scoreless sixth and eighth inning. After Milwaukee took the lead, they turned to Devin Williams
  • On the other side of the scale, Daniel Hudson took home his second loss of the season. One Hudson wins, another Hudson loses. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. Michael Kopech and Alex Vesia earned holds ahead of Hudson, with Kopech handling the sixth and Vesia the seventh.

OAK 7 – NYM 6

W: Tyler Ferguson (1-1)

L: Reed Garrett (7-4)

BS: Reed Garrett (4)

HD: Scott Alexander (8)

SV: Mason Miller (18)

  • Mason Miller went for the two-inning save for Oakland, and kept things nasty as usual, striking out three and only allowing a walk for this 18th of the season. Tyler Ferguson earned his first win of the season with two innings of his own, while Scott Alexander earned a hold in the seventh ahead of Miller.
  • Reed Garrett took home his fourth loss of the season, coughing up the lead in the sixth by allowing two runs on three hits and a walk. Those runs were the difference maker, as no more runs were scored by either team in the remaining innings.

MIN 2 – TEX 2

W: Jorge Alcala (3-3)

L: Kirby Yates (4-2)

HD: None

SV: Jhoan Duran (17)

  • Jorge Alcala earned his third win of the season after the Twins went ahead in the top of the ninth and Jhoan Duran worked his magic and struck out two for his 17th save of the season. Griffin Jax also worked a scoreless seventh ahead of Alcala, but with the game being tied, there was no hold to be found.
  • Kirby Yates coughed up the lead and took the loss after allowing one run on two walks and no hits (and some stolen base/wild pitch shenanigans). This raised his ERA to… 1.19. Yates has been having a tremendous season for Texas and there wasn’t anything really here to say otherwise.
