Chicago Cubs Top Dynasty Prospects – August Edition

Martin looks at the top prospects in a strong Cubs system!

The division reports debuted last year. The goal of this article series is to provide a quick overview of all dynasty-relevant information from each division. Each team has multiple minor league levels, each containing plenty of impactful prospects which can feel impossible to keep up with. This article series, which will be updated once per month, will help dynasty managers stay up-to-date on performances, injuries, promotions, and more. New this season is the inclusion of tiers in the rankings. Next to their rank, each prospect is assigned a tier. The tier range is 1-5.

  • Tier 1: A potential difference-making dynasty prospect. Somebody who would rank in the top-20ish prospects for dynasty baseball
  • Tier 2: A still very good dynasty prospect who holds plenty of value. This prospect would typically rank in the 21-75 range
  • Tier 3: A mid-tier prospect who could be valuable but has questions and concerns present in his profile ranking in the 76-150 range
  • Tier 4: A prospect who is worth knowing, but is reserved for deeper leagues. This prospect would rank 151-250
  • Tier 5: The rest of the prospects fall into Tier 5

The Chicago Cubs have one of the better systems in the game, specifically with proximity prospects, as six of their Top 10 have already reached Triple-A. The team’s top pitching prospect, Cade Horton, made his MLB debut on Saturday, leaving a host of positional players atop the prospect rankings. Here are the top prospects from the Windy City!

Notable Prospect Promotions and News

  • Top SS prospect Jefferson Rojas got the bump to AA just after the All-Star break, pushing the 20-year-old one step closer to the big leagues. Before his promotion, Rojas had a .278 average with 28 XBH (11 HR), 14 steals, and almost as many walks as strikeouts at High-A. His transition to Double-A has been rough early on, but Rojas got off to a slow start at High-A, too, before he mastered the level. Given the history with their handling of Rojas, expect him to spend nearly a full year at AA before they’d consider moving him again.
  • 21-year-old righty Yennri Rojas moved to High-A last month, just over a year from his previous promotion out of rookie ball. Rojas has been stellar in 2025, posting a 2.17 ERA with 51 strikeouts over 66 1/3 innings. There isn’t a ton of swing-and-miss in the profile as he excels in getting groundballs and avoiding hard contact. Rojas is a bit older than most at the level, but it will be intriguing to see how the Cubs continue to utilize him. He doesn’t have a traditional starter arsenal, so a move to the bullpen shortly could be advantageous.

Notable Prospect Performances

  • Owen Caissie has been hitting, hitting, and hitting some more, especially in July. The #2 prospect in the Cubs system posted a 1.142 OPS in July, complete with eight homers, eight doubles, and 35 combined runs and RBI. His RBI total (14) was low considering his production, but Caissie can only do so much when guys aren’t on in front of him. His offensive outburst came just before the Trade Deadline, but the Cubs opted to hold Caissie, and he could factor into their plans as they go down the stretch.
  • Jonathon Long was part of the reason that Caissie’s numbers were down last month, as Long was driving in everyone before Caissie got to the dish. The 23-year-old had seven homers of his own in July, adding 23 RBI and a 1.073 OPS. Long reached base in 20 of 22 games during the month, which included 10 multi-hit games and a stretch early in the month where he homered four times in three days. He remains blocked at the 1B position, and DH at-bats would likely go to Caissie before Long if the Cubs needed to promote a hitter. For now, Long will continue to bide his time in the Minors in hopes that an opportunity presents itself.
