San Diego Padres Top Dynasty Prospects – August Edition

San Diego Padres Top Prospects August 2025 Edition

The division reports debuted last year. The goal of this article series is to provide a quick overview of all dynasty-relevant information from each division. Each team has multiple levels each containing plenty of impactful prospects which can feel impossible to keep up with. This article series, which will be updated once per month, will help dynasty managers stay up to date on performances, injuries, promotions, and more. New this season is the inclusion of tiers in the rankings. Next to their rank, each prospect is assigned a tier. The tier range is 1-5.

  • Tier 1: A potential difference-making dynasty prospect. Somebody who would rank in the top-20ish prospects for dynasty baseball
  • Tier 2: A still very good dynasty prospect who holds plenty of value. This prospect would typically rank in the 21-75 range
  • Tier 3: A mid-tier prospect who could be valuable but has questions and concerns present in his profile ranking in the 76-150 range
  • Tier 4: A prospect who is worth knowing, but is reserved for deeper leagues. This prospect would rank 151-250
  • Tier 5: The rest of the prospects fall into Tier 5

The Padres tore down their farm system at the trade deadline. Gone are popular prospects like Leo De Vries, Boston Bateman, and Victor Figueroa. With a revamped farm system, three prospects from the 2025 draft enter their top ten. Ryan Wideman ranking the highest may come as a surprise, but his athleticism and raw potential could turn him into a top-tier dynasty prospect if everything clicks.

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Performances:

  • Miguel Mendez was promoted to Double-A. He could have found himself in the below section, but his performance as of late has been even more noteworthy than the promotion. Mendez’s ascent through San Diego’s system is starting to reach notable levels this season. He made his first start in Double-A last Thursday firing six scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts. This performance brought Mendez’s scoreless streak up to 30 innings. He owns a 0.65 ERA since May 30 and needs more attention from the dynasty community.
  • Kash Mayfield has been struggling with walks lately. Mayfield’s first professional season has been a success overall. Through 15 starts, he owns a 3.25 ERA, and is striking out 33.7% of the batters he has faced. At this point, it is possible that fatigue is starting to set in. Over his last six starts, Mayfield’s walk rate has ballooned to 16.5%.

Notable Prospect Promotions and News:

  • The team acquired Jorge Quintana from Milwaukee at this year’s trade deadline. In the flurry of moves made by the Padres, Quintana’s acquisition falls under the radar. In 50 games at the Complex Level, Quintana was batting .264 with three homers and 19 stolen bases. Quintana’s speed and plate discipline give him a solid base to build on, with the hope he adds more power as he matures. Quintana is a name worth paying attention to.
  • Kruz Schoolcraft was the team’s first-round pick in this past draft. The team seems to love to take players with interesting names beginning with K in Kruz, Kavares, and Kash. The lefty prep pitcher stands tall at 6’8″, very similar to Kash Mayfield, who they took last season. The player most intriguing to me for dynasty managers is Ryan Wideman, who was selected in the third round out of Western Kentucky. Wideman has elite raw tools with the kind of build that could send him shooting up prospect lists if his professional career gets off to a fast start.
  • Ethan Salas is behind schedule in his recovery. Salas appeared in just 10 games before suffering a back fracture earlier this season. The Padres have come out to state that Salas remains without a timetable for a return. At this point, it would not be surprising to see Salas miss the remainder of 2025.
  • Tirso Ornelas has returned to game action. Ornelas missed nearly two months of action with a foot injury, but returned to the Triple-A lineup last Friday. With the acquisitions made at the Trade Deadline, Ornelas is unlikely to contribute at the Major League level this season.
