St Louis Cardinals Top Dynasty Prospects – August Edition

The Cardinals have their superstar, but what else is behind him?

The division reports debuted last year. The goal of this article series is to provide a quick overview of all dynasty-relevant information from each division. Each team has multiple minor league levels, each containing plenty of impactful prospects, which can feel impossible to keep up with. This article series, which will be updated once per month, will help dynasty managers stay up-to-date on performances, injuries, promotions, and more. New this season is the inclusion of tiers in the rankings. Next to their rank, each prospect is assigned a tier. The tier range is 1-5.

  • Tier 1: A potential difference-making dynasty prospect. Somebody who would rank in the top-20ish prospects for dynasty baseball
  • Tier 2: A still very good dynasty prospect who holds plenty of value. This prospect would typically rank in the 21-75 range
  • Tier 3: A mid-tier prospect who could be valuable but has questions and concerns present in his profile, ranking in the 76-150 range
  • Tier 4: A prospect who is worth knowing, but is reserved for deeper leagues. This prospect would rank 151-250
  • Tier 5: The rest of the prospects fall into Tier 5

Following the 2024 MLB Draft, the Cardinals finally have a superstar prospect headlining their rankings, JJ Wetherholt. Joining him is a plethora of talent, including a trio of catchers and one of 2024’s fastest rising prospects, Yairo Padilla! Martin digs into the future of the Cardinals.

Notable Prospect Promotions and News

  • Top prospect JJ Wetherholt is now at the pinnacle of his Minor League life, moving to Triple-A on July 7th, 2025. Now at the highest level of the Minors, Wetherholt is turning it up even more. In 21 games, he’s batting .295 with six homers and has almost as many walks (12) as K’s (14). Early batted-ball data shows an average EV of over 91 mph with a 90th percentile of 105.3mph, both of which are well over the MLB average. After starting 2025 in Double-A, it’s becoming more and more likely that Wetherholt will see meaningful at-bats down the stretch for the Cardinals in the Majors.
  • In a system loaded with pop-up prospects in 2025, 3B Deniel Ortiz is joining the fray. He was promoted to High-A on July 28th after a nice start at Class-A Palm Beach. Ortiz has a season-long slash line of .283/.401/.447 with 11 homers and 33 steals. Ortiz has struggled a bit with contact, leading to a near-28% strikeout rate. In the same breath, Ortiz hits the ball very hard, which has resulted in an absurd .383 BABIP and .164 ISO. His ultimate profile may end up as three true outcomes, but the power is enticing enough to give Ortiz a nice boost in the organizational ranks.

Notable Prospect Performances

  • Left-hander Ixan Henderson has been rolling of late, including a 1.21 ERA with four wins in six starts during July. Henderson was an eight-round pick in 2023 after serving as the ace at Fresno State. In his three-year career as a pro, Henderson has a 2.37 ERA and 25.3% strikeout rate. There are some similarities to top prospect Quinn Mathews in terms of stuff, but Henderson lacks the polish and command that pushed Mathews into stardom.
