Welcome to the RP Roundup, my daily fantasy baseball article reviewing every reliever performance from the previous day.
BOS 17 – BAL 1
| Boston Red Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greg Weissert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Danny Coulombe | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Tyler Samaniego | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Greg Weissert’s been more or less productive lately in this bullpen, but with an entirely different coaching staff starting today, bullpen roles behind Chapman and Whitlock could be up for grabs.
| Baltimore Orioles | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Wells | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 35% CSW |
| Albert Suárez | 4.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Keegan Akin | 1.0 IP | 6 ER | 6 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Weston Wilson | 1.0 IP | 4 ER | 4 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- Welcome back Keegan Akin. Looks like Wolfram should continue to be the top lefty here.
SEA 11 – STL 9
| Seattle Mariners | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jose A. Ferrer | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Cooper Criswell | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| Matt Brash – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Andrés Muñoz – SV (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Andrés Muñoz stuff was down, and he had zero command (3/14 pitches in the zone) here but made it through with the save. Still looking for that dominance to return.

| St. Louis Cardinals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gordon Graceffo | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Justin Bruihl – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| George Soriano – BS (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 47% CSW |
| Ryne Stanek | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| JoJo Romero | 0.2 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Riley O’Brien – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 4 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Matt Svanson | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- Riley O’Brien threw 39 pitches here as the Cardinals probably left him in too long in hopes he could finish the ninth inning. I’m not overly concerned with the result, but it’s a reminder that O’Brien is not automatic either.
CLE 3 – TOR 5
| Cleveland Guardians | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Festa | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K | 6 Whiffs | 59% CSW |
| Peyton Pallette | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 5 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Connor Brogdon | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Matt Festa can be really good, but he still remains very hittable also. That’s going to be the case without elite velo and/or command.
| Toronto Blue Jays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Fluharty – HLD (4) | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 12% CSW |
| Tyler Rogers – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Louis Varland – SV (2) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 5 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Louis Varland’s first real save chance was shaky, but he bore down and finished it off to record the save. The command was an issue, and that could just be nerves from the save chance, but ultimately, he kept the ball in the yard, only walked one, and got the job done.
MIA 2 – SFG 6
| Miami Marlins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anthony Bender | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Tyler Phillips | 2.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 26% CSW |
- Anthony Bender’s stuff looks fine; he’s just been leaving his stuff up over the middle of the plate too often. I think he eventually figures things out.
| San Francisco Giants | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Matt Gage – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Keaton Winn – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Erik Miller – HLD (3) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Ryan Walker | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
- It would have been a save chance for Ryan Walker if the team didn’t score in the bottom of the 8th here, but that’s now three times in a row with closer usage (facing three lefties here nonetheless), so perhaps we are establishing some hierarchy in San Francisco.
MIN 1 – TBR 6
| Minnesota Twins | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Taylor Rogers | 0.0 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 13% CSW |
| Eric Orze | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Garrett Acton | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
- Garrett Acton’s four-seam is so good, I just hate that slider. He threw a changeup last year that wasn’t terrible, but if/once he can find a solid secondary, Acton could be an interesting piece in this bullpen.
| Tampa Bay Rays | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kevin Kelly – HLD (3) | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 4 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Hunter Bigge | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 55% CSW |
| Trevor Martin | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
- This was the best Hunter Bigge has looked since getting called up. I’d kind of like to see that splitter a little bit more. He’s teasing us with it (3% usage), but it has a ton of potential.
WSN 6 – CHW 3
| Washington Nationals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mitchell Parker – HLD (1) | 1.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 3 K | 7 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Gus Varland – BS (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Cionel Pérez – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Brad Lord | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 11% CSW |
- With Clayton Beeter going on the IL today, does Gus Varland move into the closer role? He hasn’t been very consistent this year, and the stuff was actually way down in this one, but if healthy, he’s still the best option this bullpen has.
| Chicago White Sox | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jordan Hicks | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 2 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Tyler Davis | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 50% CSW |
| Grant Taylor | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 78% CSW |
| Jordan Leasure – L (1) | 0.2 IP | 3 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 37% CSW |
| Osvaldo Bido | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Grant Taylor, pitching the ninth in a tie game, gave us a glimpse into his potential as a true closer. Mason Miller-lite is right here on your roster, Chicago.
SDP 6 – ARI 4
| San Diego Padres | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Adrian Morejon – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 6 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Jason Adam – HLD (5) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 27% CSW |
| Mason Miller – SV (10) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Speaking of Mason Miller, that’s now back-to-back outings with zero Ks. He was 0-2 on Thomas and threw a 104 MPH fastball at the top of the zone that he somehow fouled off. I don’t think there’s any reason to panic, but there’s also the possibility we have reached Miller’s peak value. I’m not saying to trade him away, but if you can get a first-round bat (Tatis, Julio, etc.), I think you have to consider it.
| Arizona Diamondbacks | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brandon Pfaadt | 3.0 IP | 4 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 5 K | 10 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Taylor Clarke – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 7% CSW |
| Jonathan Loáisiga | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Andrew Hoffmann | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- I don’t love that this is Jonathan Loáisiga usage now, but at least he pitched well, and we saw an uptick in velo as well.
ATH 3 – TEX 4
| Athletics | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scott Barlow | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Mark Leiter Jr. Jr. | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 15% CSW |
- The boring veterans keep pitching ok more often than not. I just have zero interest in chasing the low upside in holds leagues.
| Texas Rangers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cole Winn – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 30% CSW |
| Jalen Beeks – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Jakob Junis – HLD (4) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jacob Latz – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
- I’ve been talking about how Jacob Latz could (should) be the closer here, and this is certainly fascinating to see for multiple reasons. First, Latz got the ninth, facing the 9-1-2 hitters in the A’s lineup (so essentially they left Jakob Junis for the middle/bottom part of the order in the 8th). Then we have Latz throwing 96 MPH here! I mentioned that if he was able to sit 95 MPH, he’s going to be a problem, and then he goes and sits 96 here. It could be because he was amped to get his first save chance, but man, the fastball can be lethal in this 95-96 MPH range, and the other secondaries are already really good. He bullied Shea Langeliers with his offspeed stuff here and then bullied Nick Kurtz with his four-seamer. The huge upside makes him a must-add today in most leagues, and let’s just hope he can continue getting save chances.

LAA 1 – KCR 12
| Los Angeles Angels | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nick Sandlin | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
| Chase Silseth | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 17% CSW |
| Shaun Anderson | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Jordan Romano | 0.2 IP | 4 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Adam Frazier | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Yeah, this was not a save chance, but either way, it was a brutal outing for Jordan Romano. He actually got Pasquantino to ground out to start the inning, before allowing a single, double, walk…pop up…and then a single and a hit by pitch. There really isn’t a great alternative, however, and Kirby Yates has looked terrible in his rehab outings, so I’m not sure what action to take. You probably don’t want to or need to roster Romano anymore, but is there anyone worth picking up here? Maybe Sam Bachman is hoping his command continues to improve?
| Kansas City Royals | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daniel Lynch IV | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| John Schreiber | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
| Mason Black | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 39% CSW |
- No whiffs or Ks from Daniel Lynch IV seems crazy these days. Honestly, though, that kind of check out given his stuff is more or less the same as it was last season, with some minor tweaks and sequencing differences. He may just be left-handed Lucas Erceg at the end of the day, but right now things are clicking for him.
NYY 8 – HOU 3
| New York Yankees | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fernando Cruz – W (2) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 3 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Jake Bird – HLD (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 44% CSW |
| Camilo Doval | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
| Tim Hill | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Camilo Doval decided to ramp up the velo today, apparently, as he was up 3 MPH across the board with his cutter at 100 MPH and sinker at 99 MPH. The command wasn’t great, but he was able to get weak ground balls and a K, as he should with this kind of stuff. It will be interesting to see if the velo sticks moving forward.
| Houston Astros | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steven Okert | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 8% CSW |
| Kai-Wei Teng – L (1) | 0.1 IP | 1 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| Bennett Sousa | 0.1 IP | 2 ER | 1 H | 4 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| AJ Blubaugh | 1.1 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 3 Whiffs | 28% CSW |
| Jayden Murray | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 32% CSW |
- Bennett Sousa made his season debut, and to say he was rusty is an understatement. He was awesome last year, and we should give him some time to get back into the swing of things, but this did not look great, stuff or command-wise.
PIT 6 – MIL 3
| Pittsburgh Pirates | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Isaac Mattson – BS (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 0 Whiffs | 0% CSW |
| Mason Montgomery | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 20% CSW |
| Dennis Santana | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Gregory Soto – W (2) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 0 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Yohan Ramírez – SV (1) | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 2 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
- Dennis Santana pitched the 8th and Gregory Soto the 9th in a tie game here, just as we were getting used to Santana being the closer, working the ninth only (this is definitely going to happen in SF too, isn’t it?). Santana didn’t look great, and Soto was fine, but at the end of the day, I’m not sure how much better Soto is compared to Santana. This team definitely could use some right-handed bullpen help (I think that help is in the rotation right now), as I do feel confident about Soto, Montgomery, and Sisk from the left side. Yohan Ramírez can be excellent (as he was here), but there’s no consistency with him yet.

| Milwaukee Brewers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aaron Ashby | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 4 K | 5 Whiffs | 62% CSW |
| Abner Uribe | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Angel Zerpa – L (2) | 0.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
| Grant Anderson | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
- Angel Zerpa is still just throwing sinkers over the plate and hoping for the best, and his velo was actually down 1.5 MPH in this one. At 94 MPH, that sinker is not a great pitch anymore. The Brewers need to move on from him as a high-leverage guy.
DET 2 – CIN 9
| Detroit Tigers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Burch Smith | 2.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 3 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Tyler Holton | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 2 H | 1 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 14% CSW |
| Connor Seabold | 0.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 2 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 36% CSW |
| Drew Anderson | 2.2 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 5 K | 9 Whiffs | 38% CSW |
- Drew Anderson, even at 42 pitches in this one, still showed that increased velocity from last time out, and now we are talking about four-plus pitches potentially with SP eligibility.
| Cincinnati Reds | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Connor Phillips | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 43% CSW |
| Graham Ashcraft | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 1 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Sam Moll | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 25% CSW |
| Emilio Pagán | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
- Emilio Pagán got a chance to get some work in and seemed to be leaning on his cutter. I still want to see some better fastball velocity from him (the same could be said about Tony Santillan and now Graham Ashcraft), but at least this outing wasn’t a disaster.
CHC 4 – LAD 12
| Chicago Cubs | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Javier Assad | 2.1 IP | 6 ER | 7 H | 2 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 21% CSW |
| Vince Velasquez | 2.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- It’s cool to see Vince Velasquez back at this level, but there’s nothing about his six-pitch mix that really gets me excited right now.
| Los Angeles Dodgers | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jack Dreyer – HLD (3) | 0.2 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 2 K | 7 Whiffs | 42% CSW |
| Will Klein – HLD (2) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 0 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
| Kyle Hurt | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 40% CSW |
| Jake Eder | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 23% CSW |
- Jack Dreyer and Will Klein are likely the next in line to join the closer committee if anything happens with Scott, Vesia, or Treinen. Dreyer leaned on his slider heavily here, while Klein’s fastball actually looked the best it has here. Both fun arms to keep an eye on.
PHI 8 – ATL 5
| Philadelphia Phillies | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tanner Banks – BS (1) | 0.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 1 Whiffs | 18% CSW |
| Orion Kerkering | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 22% CSW |
| José Alvarado | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 24% CSW |
| Brad Keller – W (1) | 1.1 IP | 0 ER | 0 H | 0 BB | 1 K | 2 Whiffs | 19% CSW |
| Kyle Backhus | 1.0 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 0 BB | 0 K | 2 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- No whiffs on sweepers from Orion Kerkering here, and he’s been having issues missing bats with the pitch all year. Hitters seem to be sitting on the pitch, so his four-seamer will need to be strong for him moving forward.
| Atlanta Braves | |||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dylan Lee – BS (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 0 BB | 2 K | 4 Whiffs | 31% CSW |
| Tyler Kinley – L (1) | 1.0 IP | 1 ER | 1 H | 1 BB | 1 K | 3 Whiffs | 33% CSW |
| José Suarez | 1.0 IP | 2 ER | 3 H | 1 BB | 3 K | 5 Whiffs | 29% CSW |
- Brutal luck for Dylan Lee here, as he gave up a “triple” to Schwarber, who scored on a sac fly the next pitch, and Lee then struck out the next two batters. Nothing at all to worry about here.
