Anthony Nunez, Bryan Baker, Garrett Cleavinger, Rico Garcia, Kevin Kelly, and Cade Smith each had three SV+HLD’s over the past week, with Nunez picking up four. Even with the four SV+HLD’s, Nunez has been shaky lately, but I’ll give him at least one more week to turn things around, as the stuff hasn’t disappeared, and neither has his role, clearly. The four-seam command needs to improve soon, though.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Paul Sewald | 75% |
| Setup Role | Juan Morillo | 10% |
| Setup Role | Taylor Clarke | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Jonathan Loáisiga | 5% |
- I was trying to fit Taylor Clarke into the Top 100 for SV+HLD’s, but the upside is so limited, and he’s BABIP dependent, so while he’ll always be near the top of the leaderboards for walk rate (and WHIP), that is the only consistent category for him right now. The holds will be there from time to time, but it’s hard to call them consistent.

| Closer | Jack Perkins | 50% |
| Setup Role | Justin Sterner | 10% |
| Setup Role | Hogan Harris | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Joel Kuhnel | 10% |
- Jack Perkins may not be the locked-in closer we were hoping for a week ago, and that’s probably OK, he should still see more save chances than anyone else in this bullpen; it just be more spread out.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Raisel Iglesias | 50% |
| Setup Role | Robert Suarez | 30% |
| Setup Role | Dylan Lee | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Tyler Kinley | 5% |
- Raisel Iglesias has crazy numbers right now, and I really can not understand how, based on his arsenal, usage, and locations. The fastballs (four-seamer and sinker) grade out near below average, average at best, yet they hold a 20% swinging strike rate despite throwing them 66% of the time. The velocity has been better since coming off the IL, which is a positive, but I still worry about a potential rough patch in his future that could result in Robert Suarez taking over that closer role.

| Closer | Ryan Helsley (IL) | 65% |
| Setup Role | Rico Garcia | 15% |
| Setup Role | Anthony Nunez | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Yennier Cano | 5% |
- Rico Garcia is clearly the best reliever in this bullpen right now, and while it’s too early to rule out Andrew Kittredge making a difference, he just does not look like the same pitcher as last year right now.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Aroldis Chapman | 75% |
| Setup Role | Garrett Whitlock | 10% |
| Setup Role | Justin Slaten | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Greg Weissert | 5% |
- Slaten is back in the Red Sox bullpen, finally giving them a quality 7th inning guy in front of Whitlock and Chapman. The stuff looked great in his first game back, now he just needs to stay healthy and throw enough strikes.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Daniel Palencia | 75% |
| Setup Role | Phil Maton | 10% |
| Setup Role | Hunter Harvey (IL) | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Caleb Thielbar (IL) | 5% |
- I’m not overly worried about Daniel Palencia, but he does also come with a limited track record compared to a lot of the other closers in the top 15. Command has been an issue for him so far, but hopefully, we see that improve with more time off the IL.
- Phil Maton has looked like his normal self lately, with cutters at 90+ MPH located near the top of the zone and playing the breaking balls of that.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Seranthony Domínguez | 70% |
| Setup Role | Grant Taylor | 15% |
| Setup Role | Bryan Hudson | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Sean Newcomb | 5% |
- Jordan Leasure was sent down this week, and while not all that surprising given his performance, it does make this bullpen feel a little thinner when it comes to quality arms to trust in high-leverage situations.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Emilio Pagán (IL) | 40% |
| Setup Role | Graham Ashcraft | 30% |
| Setup Role | Tony Santillan | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Pierce Johnson | 10% |
- The only reliever to get a save in this bullpen since Emilio Pagán went down is Pierce Johnson so far…and I just can’t see that being the answer here. Tony Santillan may have pitched his way out of the conversation, but Graham Ashcraft probably deserves another shot.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Cade Smith | 80% |
| Setup Role | Erik Sabrowski | 5% |
| Setup Role | Hunter Gaddis | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Shawn Armstrong (IL) | 5% |
- Cade Smith is on a little bit of a roll here now, and the early-season command issues are a thing of the past. That WHIP should continue to drop the more he pitches.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Victor Vodnik | 40% |
| Setup Role | Jimmy Herget | 20% |
| Setup Role | Antonio Senzatela | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Juan Mejia | 10% |
- I know some members of this bullpen have been pitching well, but I just don’t want to chase any Rockies pitcher yet. Not until we have to. Which hopefully, it doesn’t come to that.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Kenley Jansen | 75% |
| Setup Role | Kyle Finnegan | 15% |
| Setup Role | Will Vest (IL) | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Tyler Holton | <5% |
- Kyle Finnegan had a bit of a setback this week, just as I thought he might be turning things around. He now holds a 1.50 WHIP and a -2.5% K-BB rate. That’s a hard guy to trust, especially considering we are already in the middle of May. The stuff has been fine, the command is just nonexistent at the moment.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Josh Hader (IL) | 60% |
| Setup Role | Bryan King | 20% |
| Setup Role | Enyel De Los Santos | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Bryan Abreu | 5% |
- Bryan King appears to have taken the reins of the closer situation here in Houston, but with Josh Hader due back in about two weeks, that does limit him in save-only leagues.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Lucas Erceg | 60% |
| Setup Role | Daniel Lynch IV | 20% |
| Setup Role | Matt Strahm | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Nick Mears | 5% |
- Lucas Erceg has been pitching (mostly) better as of late, but the overall numbers are still worrisome. His 20.6% CSW currently ranks 200th amongst 203 qualified relievers, with his 5.07 SIERA and 3% K-BB rate ranking 184/203. It’s like they lost Carlos Estévez…but somehow his essence is still closing out games for the Royals.

| Closer | Ryan Zeferjahn | 50% |
| Setup Role | Sam Bachman | 20% |
| Setup Role | Ben Joyce (IL) | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Chase Silseth | 5% |
- I’m going to try to trust Ryan Zeferjahn, but I’m really skeptical about his command. We can chase the upside for now, but at the first sign of disaster, be ready to cut bait.
- Also, Kirby Yates is not worth it in any format; you can move on.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Edwin Díaz (IL) | 25% |
| Setup Role | Tanner Scott | 50% |
| Setup Role | Alex Vesia | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Blake Treinen | 10% |
- We got all this talk about the Dodgers using multiple relievers to close out games, but so far, it’s just been Tanner Scott. As it should be, so yeah, I’m pushing him back up as he appears to be a safer, more consistent option than he may have appeared last week.
- Kyle Hurt is having some kind of start to his MLB season. I mean, look at his player page; the numbers are ridiculous. I’m just not sure if I believe in the stuff enough to move him any higher at the moment. He’s doing a great job locating his fastball so far, but will that command stick?

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Pete Fairbanks | 75% |
| Setup Role | Andrew Nardi | 5% |
| Setup Role | Calvin Faucher | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Anthony Bender | 5% |
- Pete Fairbanks is back tomorrow, so we can stop trying to guess who the Marlins closer will be on a game-to-game basis. This bullpen has so much fun pure “stuff”, I hope we can just see some more consistency from those guys.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Abner Uribe | 50% |
| Co-Closer | Trevor Megill | 40% |
| Setup Role | Aaron Ashby | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Grant Anderson | <5% |
- Trevor Megill hasn’t looked terrible lately, but it’s not the dominance we have seen from him in the past, which is kind of frustrating. The same can be said about Abner Uribe, who has been fine but still leaves you wanting more. They both are having issues locating their fastballs, so whoever can lock in there may have a chance to finally run away with the closer role.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Yoendrys Gómez | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Eric Orze | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Taylor Rogers | 20% |

- I really don’t know if I like any reliever here. I think it’s just best to stay away until they move a starter into the bullpen who might be interesting.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Devin Williams | 75% |
| Setup Role | Luke Weaver | 10% |
| Setup Role | Brooks Raley | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Craig Kimbrel | <5% |
- Devin Williams changeup is different than it ever has been due to his lower arm angle, but he seems to have adjusted to it, and he’s looked great over his last couple of outings (no runs in six straight outings).
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | David Bednar | 75% |
| Setup Role | Camilo Doval | 10% |
| Setup Role | Fernando Cruz | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Brent Headrick | <5% |
- I’m not sure what exactly Camilo Doval’s role is anymore in this Yankees bullpen, as he just brought his ERA under six last night, and the stuff has taken a weird step back. He’s still able to throw hard, but his extension is down, the “cutter” and sinker movement is not what it used to be, and the command remains questionable at best. That being said, his 1.15 WHIP is still way better than Fernando Cruz at 1.57.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Jhoan Duran | 75% |
| Setup Role | Brad Keller | 10% |
| Setup Role | José Alvarado | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Orion Kerkering | 5% |
- Jonathan Bowlan will turn things around, I think. This team may need him, too, as Brad Keller has not looked good, and Orion Kerkering hasn’t exactly wow’d this season either. For Bowlan, let’s just start with some improved four-seam command and go from there. The stuff can be so good.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Gregory Soto | 60% |
| Setup Role | Mason Montgomery | 15% |
| Setup Role | Dennis Santana | 15% |
| Middle Relief | Yohan Ramírez | 5% |
- Gregory Soto has officially run away from Dennis Santana in this closer race, and he is far and away the better reliever right now. Soto has looked better when pitching in the closer role, and he should be able to hold onto that role, assuming the command doesn’t disappear.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Mason Miller | 80% |
| Setup Role | Adrian Morejon | 5% |
| Setup Role | Jason Adam | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Jeremiah Estrada | 5% |
- Adam has been fine so far, but that 10.6% K rate has got to change. He’s never had a great fastball, but it’s even worse this season as he can’t command it and the shape is not what it used to be (iVB down 2.1″). Every pitch is at least slightly worse than last year. At least the command has been good, and he is still generating swings and misses (15% SwStr rate).
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Caleb Kilian | 40% |
| Setup Role | Keaton Winn | 20% |
| Setup Role | Joel Peguero | 15% |
| Middle Relief | Erik Miller (IL) | 15% |
- It’s great to see Joel Peguero back in the Giants bullpen and throwing 100 MPH. It also looks like his fastballs may have some better movement profiles to them. He also has a reworked slider that’s a little bit harder and breaking more north-south than east-west…but it doesn’t look like a better slider than what he had last year. The sinker/slider combo he had last year, I think, could have really been great if he had a closer to 50/50 split with them, but we’ll see what happens. Still and exciting arm to keep an eye on.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Andrés Muñoz | 75% |
| Setup Role | Matt Brash (IL) | 10% |
| Setup Role | Jose A. Ferrer | 10% |

- Andrés Muñoz should be ok, just a little more volatile than we had hoped for. Nothing to panic about here.

| Closer | Riley O’Brien | 80% |
| Setup Role | JoJo Romero | 10% |
| Setup Role | Ryne Stanek | 5% |
| Middle Relief | George Soriano | <5% |
- JoJo Romero looked a lot better this week (as did Ryne Stanek? but who cares), and I think finding that changeup is kind of the difference maker for him. The sweeper is easily his best offspeed offering, but being able to trust and at least show that changeup to righties can help keep them honest at the plate.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Bryan Baker | 75% |
| Setup Role | Garrett Cleavinger | 10% |
| Setup Role | Edwin Uceta (IL) | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Kevin Kelly | 5% |
- It may look weird that Bryan Baker is up in the SV+HLD rankings but down in Save only, but the simple answer to that is the Rays are going to continue to Ray. Baker is going to see most of the save chances, but we saw last week how they will bring him into the eighth depending on where the opposing lineup is at. It limits his save upside a bit, but he’s still an easy top 10 option.
- Garret Cleavinger seems to have found his 2025 velocity in his most recent outings, so that is definitely something to get excited about. If that continues this week, he’ll easily be in the top 10 of the holds list.

| Closer | Jacob Latz | 60% |
| Setup Role | Jakob Junis | 15% |
| Setup Role | Cole Winn | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Gavin Collyer | 5% |
- Jacob Latz is still my clear favorite reliever in this Rangers bullpen, but I’ll be honest, I don’t love seeing the velocity come back down the past 2-3 outings. I also don’t necessarily love the whole two-inning save thing, but these complaints are mostly nitpicking, and you should be happy to roster him in any format.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Louis Varland | 65% |
| Setup Role | Jeff Hoffman | 20% |
| Setup Role | Yimi García (IL) | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Tyler Rogers | 5% |
- It sounds like Louis Varland could cede some save chances to Jeff Hoffman moving forward. Actions speak louder than words, though, so until we see that, I’m not going to fully panic about Varland’s status in save-only leagues. He’s come back down to earth recently, but still remains a no-doubt top 10 reliever in baseball.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Clayton Beeter (IL) | 30% |
| Co-Closer | Gus Varland | 30% |
| Setup Role | Richard Lovelady | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Mitchell Parker | 5% |
- I wonder if the Nationals just let Gus Varland enter in the ninth inning in save chances, and get the final three outs, if he would have much better ratios at this point. The usage is all over the place in this bullpen for everyone, not just Varland, so it has to be tough for these guys to find any sort of rhythm. I still believe in Varland, I just don’t believe in the coaching staff to use him in the best way possible.
