Chicago Cubs Top Dynasty Prospects – July Edition

Martin looks at the top prospects in a strong Cubs system!

The division reports debuted last year. The goal of this article series is to provide a quick overview of all dynasty-relevant information from each division. Each team has multiple minor league levels, each containing plenty of impactful prospects which can feel impossible to keep up with. This article series, which will be updated once per month, will help dynasty managers stay up-to-date on performances, injuries, promotions, and more. New this season is the inclusion of tiers in the rankings. Next to their rank, each prospect is assigned a tier. The tier range is 1-5.

  • Tier 1: A potential difference-making dynasty prospect. Somebody who would rank in the top-20ish prospects for dynasty baseball
  • Tier 2: A still very good dynasty prospect who holds plenty of value. This prospect would typically rank in the 21-75 range
  • Tier 3: A mid-tier prospect who could be valuable but has questions and concerns present in his profile ranking in the 76-150 range
  • Tier 4: A prospect who is worth knowing, but is reserved for deeper leagues. This prospect would rank 151-250
  • Tier 5: The rest of the prospects fall into Tier 5

The Chicago Cubs have one of the better systems in the game, specifically with proximity prospects, as six of their Top 10 have already reached Triple-A. The team’s top pitching prospect, Cade Horton, made his MLB debut on Saturday, leaving a host of positional players atop the prospect rankings. Here are the top prospects from the Windy City!

Notable Prospect Promotions and News

  • 6’6″ right-handed pitcher Jaxon Wiggins was selected to this year’s Futures Game, the only player in the Cubs organization chosen. Wiggins is amid a breakout season in 2025, posting a 2.09 ERA with 74 strikeouts over 60 1/3 IP. The 23-year-old has a combined swinging strike rate of 17% with a K-BB rate of just under 20% split between two levels. Earlier this month, Wiggins was the starting pitcher for Knoxville as they no-hit Columbia. He tallied nine strikeouts in that game across 5 2/3 innings. The Cubs recently announced that Wiggins will not pitch in the Futures Game due to ‘workload management.’ But with the Cubs firmly in the thick of the pennant race, fans are speculating that Wiggins may be a top trade chip for the club to bolster their MLB roster ahead of the playoffs.

Notable Prospect Performances

  • Wiggins’ teammate in Knoxville, Grant Kipp, is having a breakout of his own. On June 4th, Kipp threw six scoreless innings with ten strikeouts against Chattanooga, giving him his first-career double-digit strikeout game. On the season, the 25-year-old Yale product is 5-2 with a 3.55 ERA and a 28% strikeout rate. Walks (12% rate) are still an issue for Kipp, but his six-pitch arsenal has taken a significant step forward in 2025.
  • Top prospect Owen Caissie is on a tear at Triple-A. After a slow start to the season, Caissie posted a 1.040 OPS in June, belting five homers with seven doubles and tallying 24 hits. Power is not a problem for the fiery-haired outfielder as he’s now had 18+ homers in three consecutive seasons and has yet to reach the All-Star Break this year. The problem for Caissie is that the Cubs’ lineup is a juggernaut right now and, barring injury, there’s simply no room for him at the MLB level. Like Wiggins, Caissie could be a trade chip as the deadline approaches, as a team will surely take a chance on a corner outfield bat with a 17.4% barrel rate and potential 30-homer upside as a pro.
