Colorado Rockies Top Dynasty Prospects- May Edition

Colorado Rockies Top Prospects May 2025 Update

The division reports debuted last year. The goal of this article series is to provide a quick overview of all dynasty-relevant information from each division. Each team has multiple levels each containing plenty of impactful prospects which can feel impossible to keep up with. This article series, which will be updated once per month, will help dynasty managers stay up to date on performances, injuries, promotions, and more. New this season is the inclusion of tiers in the rankings. Next to their rank, each prospect is assigned a tier. The tier range is 1-5.

  • Tier 1: A potential difference-making dynasty prospect. Somebody who would rank in the top-20ish prospects for dynasty baseball
  • Tier 2: A still very good dynasty prospect who holds plenty of value. This prospect would typically rank in the 21-75 range
  • Tier 3: A mid-tier prospect who could be valuable but has questions and concerns present in his profile ranking in the 76-150 range
  • Tier 4: A prospect who is worth knowing, but is reserved for deeper leagues. This prospect would rank 151-250
  • Tier 5: The rest of the prospects fall into Tier 5

The Rockies’ Major League team may be uninspiring, but there is plenty for dynasty managers to pay attention to in the Minor Leagues. Even after promotions to both Chase Dollander and Adael Amador, the Rockies still have plenty of prospects to know. Cole Carrigg and Kyle Karros feel like two of the most undervalued prospects in Major League Baseball. Second-round pick Jared Thomas is off to a hot start as well. We have not even mentioned the third overall pick from last year, Charlie Condon. There is a lot for Rockies fans to be excited about. Here’s to hoping the team does not mess up their development!

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect Performances:

  • A 2024 draftee moving quickly up my rankings is Jared Thomas. Thomas was selected 42nd overall in last year’s draft out of the University of Texas. He hit 16 homers with 18 steals in his final collegiate season and is showing off a similar blend of power and speed early on this year. He is already up to five homers and five stolen bases while showing off a patient approach at the dish. While there is some swing and miss in his profile, Thomas has the potential to turn into a 25/25 player if everything clicks. His hot start to 2025 should increase his rostered rate in dynasty leagues.
  • Kyle Karros deserves way more recognition in the dynasty community than he gets. What else is the big 6’5″ third baseman supposed to do? Since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 draft, Karros has done nothing but hit. He hit .311 with 15 homers and 12 steals in High-A last season. This year, he is batting .333 with two homers and four stolen bases. His contact rate has improved from an already solid 72.3% last season up to 76% early on in Double-A. Karros hits line drives, takes walks, makes contact, and has significant power projection. Oh, and he also has a 60FV glove according to FanGraphs. Karros is a prospect who should be rostered in all dynasty leagues.
  • Back in 2023, Gabriel Hughes was part of a whole slew of Rockies’ prospects who were forced to undergo Tommy John Surgery. He missed all of last season but is healthy again and owns a 2.08 ERA through his first five starts. Hughes has never seemed to live up to the potential of being the 10th overall pick back in 2022, but his start to 2025 is promising. His fastball is sitting 95-96 post-surgery and his curveball has looked strong. His strikeout rate remains low at 21.3% but his 5.0% walk rate is excellent. Pitching future games in Coors Field limits the amount of fantasy value Hughes projects to have, but he is still a deep name to keep an eye on.

Notable Prospect Promotions and News:

  • In the time between the last time this article was released and this time, Zac Veen was promoted and then demoted back to the Minor Leagues. Veen has significant potential and upside thanks to his speed and power combination. The two issues in his professional career thus far have been durability and strikeouts. Healthy now, Veen is still unfortunately dealing with the other issue. Veen struck out 37.8% of the time in his brief Major League debut. He is finding much more success in Triple-A, but his contact skills remain an issue. The increasing risk this tool never solidifies moves him down into the third tier of prospects.
  • Following promotions to the Major Leagues, neither Chase Dollander nor Adael Amador is included in this list. Dollander has flashed significant potential already, but home runs are proving to be an issue. This is amplified by playing home games in Coors Field. Amador is not getting consistent playing time at the Major League level. The team does not seem to view him as an impact bat, and he could find himself back in the Minor Leagues before long.
  • Charlie Condon is working his way back from injury. A wrist fracture delayed Condon’s start to the season but he has been getting some game action in at the Complex League and should start to move up through Colorado’s system. The vibes around Condon in the dynasty community are low after this injury and his struggles in his debut last season. However, it is important to remember that he was the third overall pick in last year’s draft. There is significant power projection in his profile with the added benefit of his home games projected to be played in Coors Field. He remains a tier-three prospect and could be a savvy buy-low in dynasty leagues
  • Robert Calaz returned to game action on April 30. Calaz appeared in just one game before landing on the IL with an undisclosed injury but is back healthy now. Calaz has significant offensive potential. In a small sample, he continues to hit for impressive power while showing off elite plate discipline. His contact rate remains a concern, but the hope is that he starts to show improvements to his hit tool as he continues developing.
