JoJo Romero, Lucas Erceg, Tyler Kinley, Riley O’Brien, Ian Seymour, and George Soriano each had three SV+HLD’s over the past week, with Romero picking up four despite the 1.80 WHIP. Romero is the top set up man in St. Louis by default, but I don’t love the odds of him keeping that role with a 7.5% SwStr rate. There isn’t much competition, I suppose.

- Jonathan Loáisiga has no saves or holds since April 17th, and it’s not like he’s been very helpful in the six appearances since. He’s never been a big bat misser, and that remains the case, so if he’s not getting you holds each week, there’s not much value here.

- Jack Perkins over his past six innings: 1.85 SIERA, with 35% K-BB, and 15% SwStr rates. Oh, and three saves as it has become quite clear he is the A’s closer right now, and he shouldn’t have much competition for the role moving forward either.

- Raisel Iglesias is back today, meaning we can probably drop Robert Suarez in 12-team save-only leagues, and it also means Tyler Kinley’s value in holds leagues takes a hit. Given the minor injury concern with Iglesias, he should go right back into the closer role without any issues. I have my long-term doubts/concerns with him, but he was great before the injury, so here’s to hoping he picks up where he left off.

| Middle Relief | Andrew Kittredge / Anthony Nunez | 5% |
- Ryan Helsley landed on the IL this past week, and while we haven’t quite seen who will replace him yet, we did see guys like Anthony Nunez and Andrew Kittredge have rough weeks, so it looks like we can safely guess that Rico Garcia will be the interim closer? Nunez rough patch dates back to seven games, and while Kittredge only has the one big blowup (.1 IP, 7 ER is almost impressive), his stuff hasn’t been on par with where he was at last season. My concerns with Garcia’s velocity have been somewhat alleviated with his last outing, but what was up with that weird stretch from 4/20 – 4/30?

| Setup Role | Hunter Harvey (IL) | 5% |

- Daniel Palencia returned from his short IL stint this past weekend and should get the next Cubs save chance (whenever that shall be). As much as I like the splitter, I’d like to see him get the slider back on track now. He has potential for an untouchable three-pitch mix.
- I’m not sure what exactly his role will be now, but Ben Brown has been pitching well, and I hope he’s able to still snag some holds and wins even if he’s pitching early in games. His ability to go multiple innings should also help out with K’s for the week.

- The White Sox have gone through a few left-handed relievers over the past year or so, but maybe they finally have an answer in the duo of Sean Newcomb and Bryan Hudson. Newcomb looked awesome against the Angels yesterday (perhaps revenge game motivated), and we’ve seen Hudson have long stretches of success before (2024).

- Emilio Pagán may be on the hot seat in Cincinnati, but who is the favorite to replace him at this point? Tony Santillan, Graham Ashcraft, Brock Burke, and Connor Phillips all have closer stuff in them, but they’ve been wildly inconsistent, especially as of late. Ashcraft is probably the safest option at this point, but if Phillips could just figure out his command, he’d be the obvious choice. I’d expect Pagán to have some leeway here, as even despite the bad results, his stuff has actually been looking better.

| Setup Role | Will Vest (IL) | 5% |

- Kenley Jansen is dealing with a groin issue, but he was able to make an appearance last night, and while he didn’t look great, it appears he got through the outing without any setbacks. I still don’t hate the idea of stashing Kyle Finnegan if you have a roster spot available.
- With Jansen nursing an injury and Will Vest on the IL, Drew Anderson is now a name to keep an eye on in deeper leagues. He’s increased his velocity by about 2.5 MPH over his past four outings, leading to a 12/2 K/BB ratio over those eight innings with just four hits allowed.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Josh Hader (IL) | 60% |
| Setup Role | Bryan King | 15% |
| Setup Role | Enyel De Los Santos | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Bennett Sousa | 5% |
- Enyel De Los Santos isn’t exactly cutting it as the top right-hander in this bullpen, as that role should go to Kai-Wei Teng (assuming he doesn’t make any more starts). Teng can be a legit reliever with that sweeper, but the lack of any other pitch should keep him out of the Astros rotation (one would think).
- Bennett Sousa has looked better after his rough debut and might have already surpassed Steven Okert on the depth chart. Okert is not missing bats like he typically does (although the stuff looks great still). A healthy, effective Sousa is needed for this pen, especially if the plan is to let Bryan King close out games untill Josh Hader returns at the end of the month.

| Closer | Carlos Estévez (IL) | 35% |
| Setup Role | Lucas Erceg | 35% |
| Setup Role | Matt Strahm | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Daniel Lynch IV | 10% |
- Lucas Erceg has looked much better lately, and while there could be a chance he hangs on to the role when Carlos Estévez returns, that feels highly unlikely if Estévez is his normal self. We should have some answers on this tonight, as Estévez begins his rehab assignment. If he’s sitting 95+ MPH, the job is probably his by next week. If he is still just 90 MPH, though, you’ll probably want to hold on to Erceg a little longer.
- I don’t even know how to explain this ridiculous start to the season for Daniel Lynch IV (basically the same usage as last year with slightly better stuff), and I’m not sure if it can last. But roster for now and ask questions later.

| Co-Closer | Kirby Yates (IL) | 20% |

- I guess the Sam Bachman vs. Chase Silseth argument last week was for nothing, as Ryan Zeferjahn apparently is the Angels preferred closer for the time being. I get it, stuff-wise, he makes sense, and the command is slightly better than Bachman’s. Bachman looks like the next in line, for the time being at least, as Kirby Yates and Ben Joyce are both in the midst of rehab assignments (Joyce’s stuff looks good, btw, Yates on the other hand…). There’s a non-zero chance Zeferjahn can run with the role, but if Joyce is healthy, I’d imagine he’d get an opportunity.

- Blake Treinen has looked a lot better, and is definitely the top right-hander in this bullpen for high-leverage usage. I’m not giving up on Will Klein completely, but he is a bit more volatile at the moment. With how great Kyle Hurt has looked, I could see Hurt overtake Klein as the secondary right the team can trust. Oh, and we also may be getting Brock Stewart back this week as well.

- With Pete Fairbanks out, Tyler Phillips looks like maybe the favorite for saves in the interim? It’s hard to tell since Phillips usage is kind of all over the place (he threw almost 50 pitches Sunday in a blowout loss), and honestly, I’d rather just avoid speculating on saves here as Fairbanks should be back next week. The usage for every role in this bullpen still feels very much in flux.

- Trying to figure out who will be that secondary right-handed setup option behind Luke Weaver, and while Huascar Brazobán has the early-season numbers, Craig Kimbrel has looked pretty impressive lately (ignore last night’s Coors outing). That role probably won’t have a ton of fantasy value in holds leagues, but I’d imagine they’d get holds here and there still.

- Jhoan Duran is back as of today and will go right back into the closer role. Brad Keller is an easy cut in save-only leagues.
- I know it’s been a down year for José Alvarado, but the stuff is trending the right way. As great as Tim Mayza has looked so far, I’ll take the swing and miss of Alvarado if I’m speculating on a Phillies lefty.

- Gregory Soto and Dennis Santana continue to share the closer role, or maybe the role is just Soto’s now? Santana has not pitched well, and it’s hard ot imagine the team feels comfortable with him in the ninth given his lack of stuff at this point (just hoping he is able to find gloves). If the team is looking for pure stuff from the right side, Yohan Ramírez could be that guy. The command is still an issue, but the stuff is legit.

- I guess Caleb Kilian is the new favorite for saves here, but this has been changing every week. I think Ryan Walker at the very least is not seeing the ninth inning for a while, as he continues to struggle in that role. Kilian has the stuff to close, and with Erik Miller on the IL, maybe Vitello will just go with his best arms (Keaton Winn and Kilian) in the 8th and 9th innings of games.

- Garrett Cleavinger has returned from the IL and gives the Rays much-needed left-handed relief help. The stuff looks better than it did prior to teh IL stint, but still down from last season. Hopefully, he can get back to 2025 form in due time.
- I’m not entirely sure who the Rays like better between Kevin Kelly and Cole Sulser, but it should be Kelly, right? Neither is an ideal setup, man, but they will have to do with Griffin Jax entering the rotation and no Edwin Uceta for the foreseeable future. Kelly probably has the best right-handed sweeper in that bullpen.

- Jacob Latz season is here, and there’s no reason to think he is going to lose the closer role now. Over his past four outings (when he increased his velocity), he’s allowed just one hit while striking out five and walking none…and picking up three saves. Jakob Junis can be dropped in all formats, outside of the deepest of holds leagues. He can help ratios, but remains a low upside option.

- Unfortunately, it looks like we can probably drop Jeff Hoffman in save-only leagues. He’s looked better lately, but I just can’t see Louis Varland giving up the role anytime soon. I still like Hoffman in holds leagues, as the stuff is still generating a ton of swing and miss, and the bad luck should turn around.

Injured List
| Pitcher | Notes |
| Edwin Díaz | Elbow. He underwent surgery already and is expected to be out for at least 3 months. |
| Josh Hader | Biceps. Starting rehab assignment today. Should return at the end of the month. |
| Ryan Helsley | Elbow. Hoping this is a minor thing, and he could resume throwing this week. |
| Pete Fairbanks | Nerve irritation. The team is hoping it will just be a minimum 15-day stint. |
| Edwin Uceta | Shoulder. Shutdown with a new shoulder injury and placed on the 60-day IL. |
| A.J. Puk | TJS (Internal Brace). Throwing bullpens and still hoping for a late May/early June return. |
| Matt Brash | Lat. No structural damage, just inflammation, it seems. |
| Will Vest | Forearm. No word on how long Vest may be out for |
| Justin Slaten | Oblique. Began rehab assignment and could return next week if all goes well. |
| Carlos Estévez | “Foot”. Begins his minor league rehab assignment today. |
| Kirby Yates | Knee. Started his rehab assignment, but it has not been going well so far. |
| A.J. Minter | Lat. Has made a few rehab appearances and looks good so far. Should return next week |
| Caleb Thielbar | Hamstring. Shouldn’t be out much longer than the 15 days. |
| Yimi García | Elbow. Beginning a rehab assignment this week and could return this month. |
| Clayton Beeter | Forearm. Has resumed mound work and could start a rehab assignment shortly. |
| Ben Joyce | Shoulder. Throwing 101 MPH in his rehab assignment, should be back this month, hopefully. |
| Erik Miller | Back. Miller has dealt with back issues before, so no telling how long he may be out. |
| Gabe Speier | Shoulder. Hopefully it’s just inflammation, but no word on a timetable yet. |
| Hunter Harvey | Triceps. Throwing again, so this shouldn’t be too long of an IL stint, hopefully. |
| Robert Garcia | Shoulder. He isn’t expected to be out too long, but the team could play it slow with him. |
