New York Yankees Top Dynasty Prospects-May Edition

Martin looks at Prospects of the Pinstripes, including a fast riser!

The division reports debuted last year. The goal of this article series is to provide a quick overview of all dynasty-relevant information from each division. Each team has multiple minor league levels, each containing plenty of impactful prospects which can feel impossible to keep up with. This article series, which will be updated once per month, will help dynasty managers stay up-to-date on performances, injuries, promotions, and more. New this season is the inclusion of tiers in the rankings. Next to their rank, each prospect is assigned a tier. The tier range is 1-5.

  • Tier 1: A potential difference-making dynasty prospect. Somebody who would rank in the top-20ish prospects for dynasty baseball
  • Tier 2: A still very good dynasty prospect who holds plenty of value. This prospect would typically rank in the 21-75 range
  • Tier 3: A mid-tier prospect who could be valuable but has questions and concerns present in his profile ranking in the 76-150 range
  • Tier 4: A prospect who is worth knowing, but is reserved for deeper leagues. This prospect would rank 151-250
  • Tier 5: The rest of the prospects fall into Tier 5

The 1990s Yankees were built on their homegrown talent with players like Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Jorge Posada anchoring their club. As the years have gone on, ownership has taken an all-in approach, filling their voids externally while leaving their system thin. The current crop of Minor Leaguers is an exciting blend of high-upside players mixed with several budding young stars. Here are the Yankees top prospects!

Top 10 Prospects

Notable Prospect News and Promotions

  • With the pre-season injury to top pitching prospect Chase Hampton, several young pitchers could be thrust into action at the big league level. Among them is Cam Schlittler, a 24-year-old righty, who is off to a strong start for Double-A Somerset. Schlittler has a 2.33 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 27 innings in five outings. Other names to watch include Trystan Vrieling and possibly Brock Selvidge once he returns from a bicep injury.
  • George Lombard Jr is rapidly ascending to the top of the organizational rankings and the Top 50 among all prospects. The 19-year-old shortstop is slashing .329/.495/.488 with a homer and 11 steals this season while maintaining a higher walk rate than strikeouts. On Sunday night, the organization promoted Lombard to Double-A in an aggressive move, signaling their belief that he’s a budding young star. Keep an eye on Lombard; he has shown raw skills and had a strong showing in Major League camp this Spring.

Notable Prospect Performances

  • Spencer Jones is off to an explosive start in 2025, mashing eight homers in April and five steals. By now, we know what Jones is: a talented and super athletic bopper with as much raw power as he has swing-and-miss. While the eight homers are exciting, they came with a 36% strikeout rate and a 17% swinging strike rate. His overall contact rate is under 60% early on, but if Jones can make league-average contact, he’s got 50 homer upside.
  • 2024 second-round pick Bryce Cunningham has impressed early in his pro career, posting a 2.10 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in five starts. The former Vanderbilt Commodore has a 24% K-BB rate and is limiting hitters to a .536 OPS against him thus far. Cunningham has three plus pitches, including a mid-90s fastball, a fading changeup, and a big sweeping slider, each contributing to a 14% swinging strike rate in 2025.
  • Lefty Griffin Herring is drawing rave reviews early this season, his first as a pro. The 2024 6th-round pick from LSU has made five starts in 2025, posting an ERA of 0.60 with 39 strikeouts in 30 innings. Herring is making his first trek into a starting role after pitching exclusively out of the bullpen for the Tigers.
