Kody Funderburk, Rico Garcia, Emilio Pagán, Cole Sands, and Grant Wolfram each had three SV+HLD’s over the past week. You know, all of the names you expected to see here after the second full week of the season.

| Closer | Paul Sewald | 70% |
| Setup Role | Juan Morillo | 10% |
| Setup Role | Jonathan Loáisiga | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Ryan Thompson | 5% |
- Juan Morillo has emerged as the Diamondbacks’ top setup man in the early going, and deservedly so as his changeup has developed into a plus offering while he’s still able to touch 99-100 MPH with his fastball. That fastball command could be better, and that could unlock some better swing and miss numbers, but all the tools are there to be a really good reliever.

| Co-Closer | Mark Leiter Jr. | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Hogan Harris | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Elvis Alvarado | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Justin Sterner | 20% |
- It hasn’t been the prettiest start for Elvis Alvarado (or anyone in this A’s bullpen), but the last two outings have been better, and there’s still no one in this bullpen with better closer stuff. Justin Sterner probably deserves the next opportunity here, but who knows who winds up in the ninth with a lead for them next?

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Raisel Iglesias | 55% |
| Setup Role | Robert Suarez | 35% |
| Setup Role | Dylan Lee | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Tyler Kinley | <5% |
- The Braves bullpen has only allowed 4 earned runs so far this season, so everyone here has been on point to start the season. We’ve only gotten two saves for Raisel Iglesias so far, though, so hopefully that changes moving forward (it will).
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Ryan Helsley | 80% |
| Setup Role | Andrew Kittredge (IL) | 10% |
| Setup Role | Rico Garcia | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Tyler Wells | <5% |
- Rico Garcia has picked up where he left off last year and then some, and it’s great seeing him rewarded finally, as it looks like he is the 8th-inning guy for this team right now.
- Anthony Nunez getting high leverage usage has been a pleasant surprise as well, and that should make things difficult for the team once Andrew Kittredge is ready to return.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Aroldis Chapman | 80% |
| Setup Role | Garrett Whitlock | 10% |
| Setup Role | Justin Slaten (IL) | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Greg Weissert | <5% |
- I think we can start mildly panicking about Aroldis Chapman’s stuff decline, and perhaps it gets better as the weather warms up, but he was throwing 99/100 at this time last year. He can survive at 96/97, but that’s not the guy you were willing to pay a premium draft pick on this year.
- Slaten going on the IL really puts this bullpen in a bind, as they only had three trustworthy guys to begin with. It doesn’t help that Chapman is not the same, and Garrett Whitlock has also been shaky to begin the season. Zack Kelly needs to step up, or they may need to look elsewhere for help, even this early in the season.

| Closer | Daniel Palencia | 75% |
| Setup Role | Phil Maton | 10% |
| Setup Role | Hunter Harvey | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Caleb Thielbar | <5% |
- Last Friday’s three-run outing aside, this is the best Hunter Harvey has looked in some time. The fastball velo and shape are in a good place, as are the offspeed offerings.
- Phil Maton, on the other hand, looks like he may be dealing with something, as his velocity and command are not what they usually are. The velo has declined from each outing, down to 88.2 last time out (in Tampa, btw, so no cold weather excuse), so something to monitor with Maton.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Seranthony Domínguez | 60% |
| Setup Role | Jordan Leasure | 15% |
| Setup Role | Grant Taylor | 15% |
| Middle Relief | Sean Newcomb | <5% |
- Jordan Leasure has been getting some weird usage early on, but I suppose that could be due to the scores in some of these White Sox games. Despite the 5.40 ERA, I like how he has looked so far. I just don’t know what his role is exactly (the same goes for Grant Taylor, obviously).
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Emilio Pagán | 60% |
| Setup Role | Graham Ashcraft | 15% |
| Setup Role | Tony Santillan | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Connor Phillips | 10% |
- This bullpen has seen a heavy workload so far this season, but one underrated piece here has been Brock Burke. He’s maintained his velocity while adding iVB and spin on his four-seamer, and should continue to act as the Reds leverage lefty.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Cade Smith | 80% |
| Setup Role | Hunter Gaddis (IL) | 5% |
| Setup Role | Erik Sabrowski | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Shawn Armstrong | 5% |
- Shawn Armstrong has looked fine so far, but there’s not much to get excited about here, plus we should see Hunter Gaddis return soon. There’s also no way they can move Erik Sabrowski down the pecking order right now; he’s arguably been the second-best reliever in baseball to start the season.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Victor Vodnik | 40% |
| Setup Role | Juan Mejia | 20% |
| Setup Role | Jimmy Herget | 15% |
| Middle Relief | Zach Agnos | 10% |
- Victor Vodnik’s stuff is actually in a good place right now, and it’s nice to see he hasn’t walked anyone yet. I still don’t have a ton of trust, but the closer pool is dire right now.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Kenley Jansen | 60% |
| Setup Role | Kyle Finnegan | 20% |
| Setup Role | Will Vest | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Tyler Holton | 5% |
- Kenley Jansen has only thrown 1.2 innings so far, but the stuff looks good for what it’s worth. There’s a lot of chaos in the closer landscape right now, but Jansen feels safe, all things considered.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Josh Hader (IL) | 70% |
| Interim Closer | Bryan Abreu | 15% |
| Setup Role | Bryan King | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Steven Okert | <5% |
- This bullpen will be happy to get out of Sacramento and Colorado as these past two series were damaging for everyone here, well, mostly everyone. Believe it or not, Bryan Abreu’s stuff has looked better the past couple of outings, and I think he’s ready to turn the corner (as long as his command allows for it).
- Bryan King has pretty average stuff, but he commands it well more often than not, and he’s been the team’s most consistent reliever so far (and it’s not close). He may have worked his way into a committee with Abreu for saves until Josh Hader returns,
- AJ Blubaugh has had two brutal outings in a row, with his stuff being way down in both, but this was a tough spot for him as he was replacing an injured starter, plus being in Coors. I think we need to give him at least one outing outside of Coors or Sutter Health before fully moving on.
- Steven Okert has been fine, more or less. The usage in low-leverage situations has been frustrating, though. The returns of Hader and Bennett Sousa likely won’t help either.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Lucas Erceg | 40% |
| Setup Role | Matt Strahm | 15% |
| Setup Role | John Schreiber | 15% |
| Middle Relief | Nick Mears | 10% |
- After flashing some of the velocity we saw from Lucas Erceg in 2024, the last couple of outings have been disappointing as he’s looking more like his 2025 self. The upside just may not be there anymore. As a closer for a decent team (has there been any news on Carlos Estévez btw?), he remains fantasy relevant, but I wouldn’t feel too comfortable about it.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Jordan Romano | 40% |
| Co-Closer | Drew Pomeranz | 20% |
| Setup Role | Kirby Yates (IL) | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Ben Joyce (IL) | 15% |
- I have my concerns with Jordan Romano as well, similarly to Erceg, but Romano’s last outing at least piqued my interest. It was only three pitches, but it was the best Romano’s fastball has looked in years. If he can sustain that for a full outing, and eventually every outing, I’d be back in, as that would be closer to Blue Jays Romano and not whatever we’ve seen so far.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Edwin Díaz | 80% |
| Setup Role | Tanner Scott | 10% |
| Setup Role | Alex Vesia | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Will Klein | <5% |
- Edgardo Henriquez has been super inconsistent, and he’s likely to spend a good amount of time in AAA this year when the Dodgers eventually get some relievers back from injury, but his stuff on Monday this week was incredible. It’s wild how inconsistent his stuff is game to game, let alone his command, but if we can get Monday’s version of Henriquez more often than not, he’d be racking up holds in this bullpen.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Pete Fairbanks | 75% |
| Setup Role | Calvin Faucher | 10% |
| Setup Role | Andrew Nardi | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Anthony Bender | 5% |
- Anthony Bender hasn’t gotten off to the best start, and came in for the 6th inning today, but he should still have an important role in this bullpen if only because he is a different look than most of their righty relievers. Most of that bullpen features high vert four-seamers, while Bender is a sinker/sweeper (and slider) guy from that lower arm angle.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Trevor Megill | 75% |
| Setup Role | Abner Uribe | 10% |
| Setup Role | Angel Zerpa | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Aaron Ashby | <5% |
- Abner Uribes velo has been down about 2-3 MPH so far (as have the spin rates on his pitches), which is probably the cause of his 4.7% SwStr rate to begin the season, but it’s probably too early to panic. It could just be fatigue, and in general, I’m trying to be patient with the WBC relievers.

| Co-Closer | Cole Sands | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Taylor Rogers | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Justin Topa | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Kody Funderburk | 20% |
- Eric Orze has a nasty splitter, and I’d love to see it in the 9th inning for the Twins more consistently. I don’t know if he can get away with 67% usage, but I think a 50/40/10 split with his splitter, fastball, and slider could work for him.

| Closer | Devin Williams | 80% |
| Setup Role | Luke Weaver | 10% |
| Setup Role | A.J. Minter (IL) | 5% |

- Citi Field has given some of these Mets relievers ridiculous movement profiles, but even still, I’ve liked what Ive seen from Devin Williams, Brooks Raley, and Luke Weaver so far.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | David Bednar | 75% |
| Setup Role | Camilo Doval | 10% |
| Setup Role | Fernando Cruz | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Tim Hill | <5% |
- David Bednar has been hit or miss so far, but the velocity is still down a tick, and I wonder how much that will affect someone like him who isn’t throwing 98+ MPH to begin with. I think he’ll ultimately be fine, just a little more volatile than we had hoped (like a Ryan Helsley or Jeff Hoffman).
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Jhoan Duran | 80% |
| Setup Role | José Alvarado | 5% |
| Setup Role | Brad Keller | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Jonathan Bowlan | 5% |
- Orion Kerkering returned earlier this week, and he looked…fine. He’s probably still working off some rust, so we should give him some time before making any sort of moves.
- What kind of role will Jonathan Bowlan have now remains to be seen, but he needs to be involved with that high-leverage group, as he looks better than José Alvarado and maybe even Brad Keller right now.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Gregory Soto | 40% |
| Co-Closer | Dennis Santana | 40% |
| Setup Role | Issac Mattson | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Mason Montgomery | 5% |
- Dennis Santana has 0 saves on the season, but he was in line for one the other night before the Pirates tacked on a bunch of runs in the bottom of the 8th. Gregory Soto’s stuff has looked much better, but it still looks like we will see these two split the ninth for the foreseeable future.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Mason Miller | 80% |
| Setup Role | Jeremiah Estrada | 5% |
| Setup Role | Adrian Morejon | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Jason Adam (IL) | 5% |
- Jeremiah Estrada is a different pitcher this year. The velocity is still down 3.5 MPH, the arm angle has gone from 64° in 2024, to 66° in 2025, and now is at 70°, while he’s also added 3″ of extension this year. There’s a little more break on his pitches as well, so even with the big decrease in velocity, he might be OK here. I’d still prefer 2025 Estrada, and I don’t think this new version can sustain a 35%+ K rate, though it may still work.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Ryan Walker | 60% |
| Setup Role | Keaton Winn | 10% |
| Setup Role | Caleb Kilian | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Joel Peguero (IL) | 10% |
- We’re still trying to figure out who is next in line in San Francisco (and who may get saves when Robbie Ray pitches), but it appears we are down to Keaton Winn vs Caleb Kilian. I’m slightly preferring Winn right now, I think the splitter/fastball combo can be solid.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Closer | Andrés Muñoz | 80% |
| Setup Role | Matt Brash | 10% |

| Closer | Riley O’Brien | 40% |
| Setup Role | JoJo Romero | 25% |
| Setup Role | Ryne Stanek | 25% |
| Middle Relief | George Soriano | <5% |
- Riley O’Brien may be pulling away with the closer role here, and it certainly makes sense. I’d still like to see a little more sweeper/slider usage (which we have had the past few outings), but we will certainly take the 27% K rate so far.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Bryan Baker | 40% |
| Setup Role | Griffin Jax | 25% |
| Setup Role | Garrett Cleavinger (IL) | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Edwin Uceta (IL) | 10% |
- Bryan Baker has gotten off to a hot start here, and I don’t see any reason to be skeptical as he possesses three plus pitches. I’m not giving up on Griffin Jax yet in holds leagues, but obviously, his outlook in save-only leagues is not looking great.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Jakob Junis | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Cole Winn | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Robert Garcia | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Chris Martin | 15% |
- What Jakob Junis lacks in stuff he makes up for with his great command. Maybe that’s what the Rangers need right now in the 9th, some stability and a guy who won’t issue free passes…but Cole Winn has also looked good this year and possesses more of that swing and miss upside you typically want in a closer. I’m also not fully out on Robert Garcia yet, and this whole situation remains fluid.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Jeff Hoffman | 75% |
| Setup Role | Louis Varland | 10% |
| Setup Role | Tyler Rogers | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Yimi García (IL) | 5% |
- I think despite a few hiccups, Jeff Hoffman has been pretty solid so far this season, and the increase in his offspeed usage has certainly given us an increase in swing and miss.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Clayton Beeter | 40% |
| Setup Role | Cionel Pérez | 10% |
| Setup Role | Gus Varland | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Cole Henry | 10% |
- This team needs to find a trustworthy 8th inning guy, and right now, I’m still vouching for Gus Varland being that guy. That said, I don’t want to see what we saw the other night from him, where he threw 22 pitches, 20 of which were sliders (he threw 16 straight sliders at one point). His four-seamer is not bad, so he can’t be abandoning it that quickly.

| Joel Peguero | Hamstring. Throwing live bullpens and could begin a rehab assignment shortly. |
| Hunter Gaddis | Forearm. Started a rehab assignment at AAA, could return next week potentially. |
