Jacob Latz, Trevor Megill, Tyler Rogers, Paul Sewald, and Louis Varland each had three SV+HLD’s over the past week. Usual suspects here with just one non-closer (Rogers).

- It’s kind of crazy to think the Diamondbacks began the season without a lefty in their bullpen when they had Brandyn Garcia in the system. He’s been lights out since getting called up, currently sporting a 0.75 ERA (2.00 SIERA), 0.83 WHIP with a 33% CSW, and a 118 Stuff+ backs up just how talented he is. Garcia’s base is a 97+ MPH sinker he can throw for strikes (65%), while the sweeper is the swing and miss pitch (57% Whiff). It’s a fun mix from the left side.
- Kevin Ginkel has been throwing a bit harder lately, but he’s also not had to be the team’s “lefty” with Garcia on the roster. Over his past 8.1 innings, he holds a 2.16 ERA (2.44 SIERA), 0.96 WHIP and 32.3% K rate.

- This bullpen remains hard to predict on a day-to-day basis, but the one guy it seems you can’t get rid of is Hogan Harris. He is the only lefty here, so that’s part of it, but at the end of the day, he’s probably got the best stuff too (depending on what versions of Justin Sterner and Jack Perkins we are getting).

| Middle Relief | Grant Wolfram | 5% |
- So, ugh, either this bullpen just got off to a really hot start, and it was all fake, or I had massively overrated them (maybe a combination of both). Anthony Nunez has been the biggest disappointment; he now holds a 9.24 ERA and 1.89 WHIP with just a 21% K rate over the past month+ (12.2 IP). Grant Wolfram isn’t allowing runs, but he holds a 1.59 WHIP over that same span and just a 20% K rate. Yennier Cano’s ratios had been good up until the past week, and now he’s dealing with some lingering injury concerns. There wasn’t much bat missing ability happening there anyway. Tyler Wells has some good showings followed by big meltdowns, so he’s extremely hard to trust. Andrew Kittredge still holds a 10.57 ERA and 1.96 WHIP going back over a month now (and can’t miss bats anymore). What a mess.

- Jovani Morán has been excellent out of the bullpen for the Red Sox the past few weeks, with a 1.23 ERA (0.49 SIERA), 0.27 WHIP, and 48% K-BB rate over his past 7.1 relief innings (please stop having him open games). The changeup has always been great, but the fastball has seemed to stabilize here lately, sitting around 94 MPH over this stretch, not 91-92 MPH as he had been earlier in the year. The last time Moran had this kind of velocity was in 2022, easily the best season of his career (he was very underrated back then). If the velocity sticks in the high 93/low 94 range, a return to those 2022 numbers could be on the horizon.

- This Jacob Webb breakout is fun to witness, and it, too, can be traced back to a bump in velocity. He was averaging 93.4 MPH over his first 10.2 innings (5.06 ERA, 2.06 WHIP, 23% K rate), but over his past 14 innings, that number is up to 94.5 MPH (0.64 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 35.2% K rate). As long as the velo gains stick around, no reason to suspect a major fall off in production. He’s also throwing two different breaking balls now, but the changeup is the real star still.

- I know everyone is eager to get Grant Taylor in the closer role (I get it), but Seranthony Domínguez has been great the past two weeks after a pair of meltdowns. This is kind of what he does, and why he may never give up the role, because the meltdowns are usually mixed in with otherwise solid performances. He’s inconsistent, but at the end of the day, he’s more good than bad.
- Bryan Hudson has allowed just two earned runs since the start of April (23 IP), holding a 0.778 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 24% K rate over that span. Let’s continue with the velocity theme here, as Hudson has been averaging 92 MPH with his fastball. The last time he did that was the first half of 2024 with the Brewers (where he held a 0.99 ERA, 0.66 WHIP, and 31.3% K rate over his first 45.1 IP).

- I’m still choosing to believe in Will Vest despite last week’s 5 ER outing agianst he Angels. The stuff looks better since his return from the IL, and with Jansen on the IL, there’s no one else to trust here anyway. Kyle Finnegan got the first chance post-Jansen injury and blew the save, as did Drew Anderson later in that same game. Finnegan did look better last night, and maybe he can build on that, so he’s back on the list at least, but it’s hard to trust a reliever with a negative K-BB rate in June (-2.6%!).

- Josh Hader is back tonight, and you can either choose to be worried about his last couple of rehab outings or ignore them and hope he’s back to his normal self once on an MLB mound in an MLB stadium. I’m somewhere in between right now, and just want to see how this week goes before either panicking or pushing back up to where he belongs when healthy.
- Bryan King will slide into a setup role, but Steven Okert has been much better (this goes back a season as well), so I’d love to see Okert in a setup role over King moving forward. Since the start of May, Okert holds a 2.53 SIERA, 0.35 WHIP, and 31% K rate (15% SwStr, 33% CSW, 113 Stuff+) while King holds a 4.98 SIERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 10.5% K rate (6% SwStr, 24% CSW, and 97 Stuff+). The two aren’t even close.
- Same situation on the right side with Enyel De Los Santos vs. Bryan Abreu. De Los Santos is the clear option here as he holds a 2.49 SIERA, 0.58 WHIP, and 31% K rate since the start of May (17% SwStr, 31% CSW) while Abreu is at a 5.51 SIERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 18% K rate (with an 18% BB rate, 9.5% SwStr rate, and 92 Stuff+).

Daniel Lynch IV has not been as dominant since the start of May (1.42 WHIP, 26% K rate), and Matt Strahm just came off the IL. The fact that they at least have both lefties again could lead to one of them taking over. From the right side, Alex Lange has been making a run lately, as we’ve seen some better velocity from him lately and no walks since May 10th.

Yohan Ramírez was supposed to be the answer from the right side, but that doesn’t seem to be panning out, so the Pirates are still searching there (maybe Wilber Dotel, or Brandan Bidois…or whatever happens with Carmen Mlodzinski, who was awesome in the second half as a reliever last season, mind you).

The velocity and command are still wonky, but maybe the further removed from his IL trip, the more that improves?
Injured List
| Pitcher | Notes |
| Edwin Díaz | Elbow. Started his throwing program last week; playing catch as of Monday or Tuesday per Roberts. Eligible off the 60-day IL on 6/19, but the Dodgers are still targeting a post-All-Star break return. |
| A.J. Puk | TJS (Internal Brace). Promoted to Triple-A Reno, where he’ll pitch Tuesday and Friday this week. Has three rehab outings in the books at the complex level. Still on track for a mid-June return. |
| Ryan Helsley | Elbow. Threw a 15-20 pitch bullpen on 5/30 and felt good; will throw a few more high-intensity bullpens before the Orioles re-evaluate after their six-game road trip. Rehab assignment expected after that. Still targeting a June return. |
| Erik Sabrowski | Elbow. MRI confirmed inflammation with no structural damage. Vogt called it “the best-case scenario.” Sabrowski said the results were “eerily similar” to elbow inflammation he dealt with in spring training 2025. No firm timetable. |
| Justin Martinez | TJS. Threw his first post-surgery bullpen off a mound at Salt River Fields in May. Lovullo said he needs 15 bullpens before the next progression step. End-of-August best-case return; more likely a 2027 reappearance. |
| Kenley Jansen | Pelvic inflammation. Placed on the 15-day IL by the Tigers on 5/28 after exiting Wednesday’s outing with difficulty on his landing. Had been day-to-day with right groin soreness since the beginning of May. |
| Garrett Whitlock | Knee. Placed on the 15-day IL, backdated to 5/25, with left knee inflammation. Received a painkilling injection 5/27. Imaging showed no structural damage. Injury occurred when he slipped on a muddy mound. |
| Emilio Pagán | Hamstring. Throwing from his knees to maintain arm strength while the hamstring heals. Still on the 4-8 week timeline so first week of June at the earliest, late June/early July more realistic. |
| Edwin Uceta | Shoulder. Still has not progressed to throwing off a mound. Eligible off the 60-day IL, but nowhere near a rehab assignment. |
| Graham Ashcraft | Elbow. Placed on the 60-day IL on 5/29 with a UCL sprain. Reds team doctor Dr. Tim Kremchek recommended a PRP injection (scheduled for Tuesday). Ashcraft is seeking a second opinion to hopefully avoid Tommy John surgery. |
| Carlos Estévez | Shoulder. Began playing catch on 5/28, after meeting with team doctors Tuesday for re-evaluation following the four-week shutdown. Will need another minor-league rehab assignment before returning, so the timetable is still unclear. |
| Evan Phillips | Elbow. Still on the 60-day IL recovering from Tommy John surgery (June 2025). Has begun facing live hitters. Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes is framing his return as a “deadline acquisition,” with a July/August target. |
| Yimi García | Elbow. Threw a 30-pitch bullpen Friday and is eyeing a return to Toronto’s bullpen as soon as next week. Rehab assignment to follow sometime this week. |
| Ben Joyce | Shoulder. Resumed his throwing program in Arizona per Suzuki, his first positive update since the rehab setback in mid-May. Has been moved to the 60-day IL. |
| Cole Winn | Arm fatigue. Still on the 15-day IL with right arm fatigue. Felt fatigue and soreness in the shoulder coming out of his 5/23 outing, with the symptoms worsening the next morning. No specific MRI update or return timetable yet. |
| Andrew Nardi | Rib. Placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to Thursday with a left rib cage stress reaction, then transferred to the 60-day IL on 6/1. Expected to miss approximately three months. |
| Robert Garcia | Shoulder. Transferred to the 60-day IL last week (the Rangers needed the 40-man spot for Robby Ahlstrom). Still has not progressed enough for a rehab assignment. Return not expected until at least the end of June. |
| Hunter Harvey | Triceps. Rehab moved to the team’s Arizona complex. Not expected to resume throwing until at least early June, with re-evaluation to follow the four-week shutdown. |
| Brock Stewart | Foot. Faced hitters for the first time on 5/26, but is still feeling discomfort. Roberts said the foot is “just not totally responding.” No formal rehab assignment yet. June return remains the target, but his timeline keeps slipping. |
| Bennett Sousa | Elbow. Has started a throwing progression after being diagnosed with a low-grade elbow flexor/pronator strain. Return date remains TBD. |
