Welcome back to a new week of Reliever Rankings!
Pete Fairbanks, Bryan Baker, David Bednar, Jeremiah Estrada, Brandyn Garcia, Raisel Iglesias, and Dylan Lee each had three SV+HLD’s over the past week, with Fairbanks racking up four. Good to see Fairbanks with a nice bounce-back week here and, more importantly, staying put in Miami through the deadline, so he should remain the team’s closer the rest of the way.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Interim Closer | Brandyn Garcia | 60% |
| Setup Role | Juan Morillo | 15% |
| Setup Role | Jonathan Loáisiga | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Kevin Ginkel | 5% |
- Brandyn Garcia has replaced Paul Sewald in the closer role, well at least for the time being, as Justin Martinez is on a rehab assignment. It may just be temporary, but Garcia is good enough to pick up in all leagues for the month of August at least.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Hogan Harris | 50% |
| Co-Closer | Elvis Alvarado | 25% |
| Setup Role | Luis Medina | 10% |
| Middle Relief | José Suarez | 5% |
- Hogan Harris is still the closer here, I suppose, but you never like seeing your closer pitch in the sixth inning of a game, trailing by six runs.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Raisel Iglesias | 70% |
| Setup Role | Dylan Lee | 10% |
| Setup Role | Didier Fuentes | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Dylan Dodd | 5% |
- Didier Fuentes fastball velocity has fluctuated quite a bit in the past month, but he still put together a great July with a 2.30 ERA (2.21 SIERA), 1.15 WHIP, and 35% K rate. The updates on Robert Suarez have not been promising, and the Braves didn’t add any relievers at the deadline, so Fuentes’ role appears to be locked in.

| Co-Interim Closer | Rico Garcia | 30% |
| Co-Interim Closer | Yennier Cano | 25% |
| Co-Interim Closer | Andrew Kittredge | 25% |
| Middle Relief | Anthony Nunez | 10% |
- The Orioles moved their interim closer Tyler Wells to the Rays, leaving the trio of Rico Garcia, Yennier Cano and Andrew Kittredge in line for saves. Not exactly an exciting group to choose from these days, but I do like where Garcia’s stuff is trending since the All-Star Game (he’s just been giving up home runs at a crazy rate).
| Name | IP | ERA | WHIP | xFIP | SIERA | K% | K-BB% | Z-Contact% | SwStr% |

| Closer | Aroldis Chapman | 80% |
| Setup Role | Garrett Whitlock | 10% |
| Setup Role | Justin Slaten | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Tyron Guerrero | 5% |
- The Red Sox entered the trade deadline with the best bullpen in baseball and bolstered it with Erik Miller, who is coming off the best month of his career in July. The one thing this bullpen lacked was that true left-handed out guy (Moran with his changeup is not exactly that), so Miller gives them a guy who can go and get tough lefties out.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Interim Closer | Jacob Webb | 40% |
| Co-Interim Closer | Ryan Zeferjahn | 30% |
| Co-Interim Closer | Caleb Thielbar | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Trent Thornton | 5% |
- Ryan Zeferjahn cost the Cubs one of their former top prospects, but gives them some real swing-and-miss potential either in the ninth or in any high-leverage spot. Who gets the bulk of the saves over the next 2-3 weeks before Daniel Palencia returns feels like a coin flip, as Jacob Webb has been pitching well lately, and while his ceiling may not match Zeferjahn’s, his floor is certainly much higher. I’ll take a chance on Zeferjahn’s upside despite the volatility in SV+HLD, but still leaning towards Webb in save-only.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Grant Taylor | 40% |
| Co-Closer | Jordan Hicks | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Bryan Hudson | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Sean Newcomb | 10% |
- Huascar Brazobán enters the fray here, but I don’t think he’s much of a threat to take the closer role and run with it. I’m not sure what else Jordan Hicks needs to do to get a chance to close out games here, but he’s been their best reliever by far over the past couple of months. Bryan Hudson has been dealing with some unfortunate luck lately, but he’s still throwing the ball well (better than Sean Newcomb).
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Emilio Pagán | 75% |
| Setup Role | Tejay Antone | 10% |
| Setup Role | Brock Burke | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Julian Garcia | 5% |
- No one was moved in this bullpen at the deadline (except Caleb Ferguson, but that doesn’t count really), so that’s good news for Emilio Pagán and, I suppose Tejay Antone in holds leagues, as he has a pretty safe role moving forward as long as he can stay on the field.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Cade Smith | 85% |
| Setup Role | Colin Holderman | 5% |
| Setup Role | Hunter Gaddis | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Erik Sabrowski | 5% |
- Erik Sabrowski now holds an 8.10 ERA and 2.30 WHIP in ten innings since returning from the IL in June, and that even comes with just a 25% K rate. The stuff still looks great; the command has just been terrible.
- I’m going to take Colin Holderman over Hunter Gaddis, even if the Guardians don’t feel the same way (yet). Gaddis now holds a 9.00 ERA (7.48 xFIP), 1.83 WHIP, and -3.4 K-BB rate since the All-Star break (8 games) while Holderman has now allowed just three earned runs since the start of June.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Jordan Romano | 70% |
| Setup Role | Juan Mejia | 10% |
| Setup Role | Jimmy Herget | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Brennan Bernardino | 5% |
- Jordan Romano is the closer here, I guess, and you’d have to be extremely desperate in a very deep league to chase that.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Kenley Jansen | 70% |
| Setup Role | Kyle Finnegan | 10% |
| Setup Role | Tyler Holton | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Drew Anderson | 5% |
- Kyle Finnegan and Kenley Jansen are still here, so that’s something. In fact, the Tigers didn’t move any relievers, so the bullpen remains the same mediocre group it has been.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Josh Hader | 80% |
| Setup Role | Bryan Abreu | 5% |
| Setup Role | Steven Okert | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Enyel De Los Santos | 5% |
- Bennett Sousa had some improved velocity for a minute, but the past week he dipped back down below 93 MPH. On the flip side, Bryan Abreu may be really figuring things out, as his fastball velocity was much better in July, where he held a 1.42 ERA (2.36 SIERA), 0.79 WHIP, and 35% K rate. This is still not peak Abreu, but the best version of him we’ve seen this year at the very least.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Steven Cruz | 50% |
| Co-Closer | Daniel Lynch IV | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Alex Lange | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Lucas Erceg | 10% |
- Steven Cruz should be the favorite for saves moving forward in this bullpen. I just can not understand the need to roll Alex Lange or Lucas Erceg back out there for save chances anymore.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Sam Bachman | 30% |
| Co-Closer | Samy Natera Jr. | 25% |
| Co-Closer | Ben Joyce | 25% |
| Co-Closer | José Fermín | 20% |
- Closer Ryan Zeferjahn is out of the picture, as is Kirby Yates (and others), leaving some combination of Sam Bachman, Samy Natera Jr. and José Fermín in the mix for saves. Oh, and Ben Joyce just came off the IL today (finally). Joyce’s rehab was very mixed, so I can’t imagine he’s actually in the mix for saves here right away. Sam Bahcman has been terrible lately and is dealing with an injury. The closer should be Samy Natera Jr., but will the Angels actually commit to that?
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Edwin Díaz | 70% |
| Setup Role | Tanner Scott | 15% |
| Setup Role | Evan Phillips | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Alex Vesia | 5% |
- Edwin Díaz has returned, and he still does not look quite right, so I’m going to be a bit cautious with his ranking for now, especially since the Dodgers can just move on from him if his issues linger.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Pete Fairbanks | 70% |
| Setup Role | Michael Petersen | 10% |
| Setup Role | Tyler Zuber | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Calvin Faucher | 5% |
- Tyler Zuber appears to be in the 8th inning setup role for the time being, perhaps as a placeholder for Anthony Bender, but it’s interesting nonetheless. I see the appeal, but when others are healthy in this bullpen, Zuber should be nothing more than a middle relief option.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Trevor Megill | 75% |
| Setup Role | Abner Uribe | 10% |
| Setup Role | Aaron Ashby | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Chad Patrick | 5% |
- JoJo Romero will be in this bullpen soon, and Antonio Senzatela will be active this week, but Chad Patrick deserves some props for what he’s been able to do. Not sure he’s going to have an interesting role when the bullpen is at full strength, but he at least gives them solid depth and length.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Jeff Hoffman | 50% |
| Co-Closer | Yoendrys Gómez | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Andrew Morris | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Tommy Nance | 5% |
- Jeff Hoffman lands with the Twins here, getting out of Toronto and into a friendly bullpen environment, one where he should easily take over the closer role at least. Even if Hoffman didn’t land here, I think there was a real argument to be made that Andrew Morris should take over the ninth from Yoendrys Gómez, but that argument should be moot now.
| Name | IP | ERA | WHIP | xFIP | SIERA | K% | K-BB% | O-Swing% | SwStr% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Andrew Morris | 27 | 2.00 | 0.89 | 3.08 | 2.82 | 27.9% | 21.2% | 30.5% | 7.9% |
| Jeff Hoffman | 22.1 | 1.21 | 0.94 | 2.98 | 2.68 | 32.6% | 23.9% | 40.3% | 14.3% |

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Devin Williams | 80% |
| Setup Role | Dedniel Núñez | 10% |
| Setup Role | Daniel Duarte | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Jefry Yan | 5% |
- Devin Williams and who else is left in this bullpen now? It’s nice seeing Dedniel Núñez back at least; hopefully he can get back to where he was before the injury. Daniel Duarte has looked decent as well; not sure how excited we should be about him though.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | David Bednar | 75% |
| Setup Role | Fernando Cruz | 10% |
| Setup Role | Brent Headrick | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Paul Blackburn | 5% |
- My big question from yesterday was: how did the Yankees fail to add a reliever? Not only that, but they gave up significant reliever depth in Doval, Cruz, Bird, and even Grable. Brent Headrick and Fernando Cruz (to some degree) are fine, but behind them it’s a bit of a mess.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Jhoan Duran | 85% |
| Setup Role | Jonathan Bowlan | 5% |
| Setup Role | Caleb Kilian | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Orion Kerkering | 5% |
- The Phillies made some nice bullpen additions in Caleb Kilian and Brooks Raley, with Raley giving them a lefty they can depend on and Kilian giving them another wild-card righty to go with Bowlan and Kerkering. I could see Kilian taking over Kerkering’s role sooner rather than later, while Raley should instantly move José Alvarado down the depth chart.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Luke Weaver | 40% |
| Co-Closer | Mason Montgomery | 30% |
| Co-Closer | Gregory Soto | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Camilo Doval | 5% |
- The Pirates completely remade their bullpen from a right-handed reliever standpoint, adding Luke Weaver, Camilo Doval, Kirby Yates and Lake Bachar. My hunch is that Luke Weaver will be the primary closer here, but Mason Montgomery has been throwing the ball well, and I think if I were a decision maker for the Pirates, I’d ride with him in the closer role with Weaver and Soto as my primary setup options.
| Name | IP | ERA | WHIP | xFIP | SIERA | K% | K-BB% | ZCon-OSwing% | CSW% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mason Montgomery (L) | 18 | 3.00 | 0.89 | 0.66 | 1.16 | 51.4% | 43.1% | 42.2% | 32.6% |
| Luke Weaver | 14 | 0.64 | 0.57 | 2.47 | 2.08 | 36% | 30% | 39.1% | 31.8% |

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Mason Miller | 80% |
| Setup Role | Adrian Morejon | 10% |
| Setup Role | Jeremiah Estrada | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Bradgley Rodriguez | 5% |
- Jeremiah Estrada is back in this bullpen, but he still doesn’t look quite right, so we should probably be cautious here. For now, I have him ahead of Bradgley Rodriguez, but that could change next week.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Co-Closer | Dylan Smith | 40% |
| Co-Closer | Sam Hentges | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Keaton Winn | 20% |
| Middle Relief | JT Brubaker | 10% |
- The Giants traded away their two best relievers, leaving the door open for Dylan Smith to see some save chances potentially here. Sam Hentges could help with left-handed pockets, and perhaps Keaton Winn can find some of that early-season success again, but his stuff has been way down since returning from the IL. So basically, Smith is really the only viable option remaining here.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Andrés Muñoz | 80% |
| Setup Role | Gabe Speier | 10% |
| Setup Role | Eduard Bazardo | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Jose A. Ferrer | 5% |
- The Mariners added Seranthony Domínguez at the deadline, and I think this could be a good spot for him to right the ship, as we now know how nice a pitcher’s park T-Mobile can be. He at least gives this bullpen some swing-and-miss ability, which current right-handed setup man Eduard Bazardo sorely lacks.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Riley O’Brien | 70% |
| Setup Role | George Soriano | 10% |
| Setup Role | Ryne Stanek | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Caleb Ferguson | 5% |
- This bullpen lost JoJo Romero and added Caleb Ferguson, but regardless of any moves, this bullpen in general is falling apart. They’ve been a bottom 5-10 bullpen since June, and rank last amongst all MLB bullpens over that span in Swinging Strike rate, as there’s just a severe lack of swing and miss stuff here. Riley O’Brien should remain the closer the rest of the way, but how many save chances will he actually manage to see?
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Bryan Baker | 75% |
| Setup Role | Tyler Wells | 10% |
| Setup Role | Kevin Kelly | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Garrett Cleavinger | 5% |
- The Rays made a sneaky bullpen addition on trade deadline day by adding Tyler Wells to the mix, and he should be able to find hold chances even in this bullpen that is suddenly deep with Cam Booser breaking out and Kevin Kelly continuing to dominate righties.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Jacob Latz | 80% |
| Setup Role | Chase Silseth | 10% |
| Setup Role | Peyton Gray | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Robby Ahlstrom | 5% |
- The Rangers did add a reliever at the deadline, and it was Chase Silseth, which is kind of sad that this was the only reliever they added. I know they have been struggling lately, but it still feels like a bad deadline overall for this team.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|

| Closer | Louis Varland | 75% |
| Setup Role | Tyler Rogers | 10% |
| Setup Role | Mason Fluharty | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Brendon Little | 5% |
- The Blue Jays got rid of Jeff Hoffman, so who is the new 7th inning guy here? Spencer Miles, Mason Fluharty, Braydon Fisher, and Brendon Little are all in the mix. I like how the lefties are throwing the ball right now, so I’d lean towards them for now.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||
|---|---|---|
| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Clayton Beeter | 50% |
| Setup Role | Orlando Ribalta | 20% |
| Setup Role | Yovanny Cruz | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Will Dion | 10% |
- The Nationals sold off a few big pieces and added a bunch of bullpen reinforcements in the process, with Yovanny Cruz and Will Dion likely being instant contributors as potential high-leverage options here.
| Daniel Palencia | Elbow. Counsell cleared him to begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on 8/5, with a mid-August activation the working target. He’s been out since mid-June with a flexor strain and has cleared bullpens and live BP. |
| Ryan Helsley | Elbow. Began throwing on 7/31 at Camden Yards, his first throwing since the shutdown. Helsley said his rest window “will be more extended” because the “time off he took last time didn’t work” in early May. He’s on the 60-day IL. |
| Robert Suarez | Elbow. Still had not resumed throwing as of late July, roughly six weeks after the IL placement. Weiss has expressed surprise at how long the recovery has dragged, though tests showed no structural damage. |
| A.J. Puk | TJS (Internal Brace). No new updates since the 7/17 MRI showed the left shoulder capsule “hasn’t fully healed,” per Lovullo, and the subsequent second opinion with Dr. Neal ElAttrache. No timeline has been released. |
| Justin Martinez | TJS. Threw a bullpen on 7/25 and a one-inning, 20-pitch live BP on 7/28. Next up is a camp game followed by a rehab assignment at Low-A Visalia. Lovullo has him on a late-August path if all goes well. |
| Felix Bautista | Shoulder. No new updates since Elias said Bautista is “throwing really, really well” and that the club is “pretty excited about where he’s at.” He’s cleared for mound work and bullpens, but Baltimore still has no timeline and will not push him. |
| Anthony Bender | Shin. No new updates since 7/30, when he was described as roughly a couple of weeks from reinstatement. Bender carried a 2.62 ERA and 41:12 K:BB across 34.1 innings before the right shin stress fracture shelved him in June. |
| Matt Brash | Lat. Hollander has Brash roughly a week behind Carlos Vargas in the return queue, pushing his window past mid-August. He’s been out since the 6/10 placement with a right lat strain, a different lat issue that cost him two weeks earlier this year. |
| Edwin Uceta | Shoulder. Still shut down and seeking another opinion. Cash: “Rehab has not gone as well as we would have hoped.” Uceta has made just four rehab appearances all year and hasn’t thrown since a late-May setback. Surgery has not been ruled out. |
| Jason Adam | Shoulder. No new updates. San Diego is still waiting on the subscapularis to heal before he starts a throwing program. Adam has said the shoulder is improving and laid out a path to a late-August return. |
| Graham Ashcraft | Elbow. No new updates since he was cleared to throw from 105 feet on 7/20 at the Reds’ facility in Goodyear. A PRP injection earlier in July appears to have helped the UCL heal, but he still has a full build-up ahead. |
| Will Vest | Elbow. Underwent surgery on the right elbow on 7/29 to address the stress fracture diagnosed 7/10, and he’ll have a hip procedure as well, ending his 2026 season. He was originally placed on the IL 7/1 with posterior elbow inflammation. |
| Yimi García | Elbow/biceps. Scheduled to visit a thoracic outlet syndrome specialist after reporting neck and nerve symptoms on his rehab assignment. Schneider said García felt more symptoms during the rehab outing. His seasons in doubt. |
| Tony Santillan | Oblique. The follow-up MRI on 7/31 came back clean, and he’s moved into an expedited program that starts with bullpen sides. He had thrown from 75 feet on flat ground on 7/24 with no issues. |
| Carlos Estévez | Shoulder. No new updates. Still on the 60-day IL after the late-June setback and shoulder injection. He’s been limited to one appearance all season, exiting his 5/6 rehab outing at Triple-A Omaha with a right rotator cuff strain. |
| JoJo Romero | Appendicitis. Traded to Milwaukee while still on the IL. He’s resumed light baseball activities following the emergency appendectomy and is expected back around mid-August. |
| Robert Garcia | Shoulder. No new updates. Remains on the 60-day IL with left shoulder inflammation dating to the 4/23 placement. No bullpen progression has been reported. |
| Brock Stewart | Shoulder. Placed on the 15-day IL on 7/31 with shoulder discomfort; an MRI showed tendinitis and shut him down from throwing for at least three to four days. Roberts called the move precautionary and does not expect a significant absence. |
