Trevor Megill, Jason Adam, Pete Fairbanks, Jaden Hill, Erik Miller, Mason Miller, Robert Suarez, and Ryan Walker each had three SV+HLD’s over the past week. Megill actually picked up his fourth hold today, but his velocity is still in the 96 MPH range, so that can’t be good. Everyone else here is on the list except for Jaden Hill because, trust me, you do not want to chase these Rockies relievers right now. Hill also holds a 9% K-BB and 4.61 PLV, as every pitch grades out below average.

- Jonathan Loáisiga hasn’t been that bad this year, but the Diamondbacks don’t quite feel comfortable just handing him the 7th inning role. He’s basically getting one hold a week with middling ratios and not a ton of K’s.

- Jack Perkins last outing did something for me, and I see why there’s been some hype around him for a while now. In a bullpen that remains super chaotic, maybe Perkins can sneak his way into the closer role eventually?
- Justin Sterner and Hogan Harris are contributing to said chaos, and I’m not totally out on either one yet, but it feels like every time Sterner gets close to taking over that closer role potentially, he goes and gets destroyed. With Harris, yeah, it’s nice to see the uptick in stuff, but it hasn’t led to any more swing and miss, and he’s also holding an 18.5% walk rate at the moment.

| Closer | Raisel Iglesias (IL) | 55% |
| Setup Role | Robert Suarez | 35% |

| Middle Relief | Tyler Kinley | <5% |
- Robert Suarez is getting a chance to close while Raisel Iglesias is on the IL, but I think Iglesias is going to get his job back when he returns (is it guaranteed, though?). Suarez has been awesome so far, and this new cutter he is throwing has really helped expand his swing and miss potential. Two years ago, he was throwing his fourseamer 71% of the time, now, he’s at 53%.
- Everyone keeps sleeping on Dylan Lee, and I don’t know what he needs to do to be universally rostered in holds leagues at this point.
- Tyler Kinley is throwing his fastball just 16% of the time, and that’s wonderful, cause we just want to see the slider (and occasionally the curveball).

| Closer | Ryan Helsley | 80% |
| Setup Role | Anthony Nunez | 5% |
| Setup Role | Rico Garcia | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Andrew Kittredge (IL) | 5% |
- I think Anthony Nunez should be the Orioles 8th inning guy until further notice. Andrew Kittredge’s rehab assignment hasn’t gone well, and Rico Garcia’s velocity was down the last two outings. Nunez currently holds a 28.3% K-BB and near 19% SwStr rate and the team doesn’t seem afraid to use him in the highest leverage situations.
- Yennier Cano, welcome back. This entire Orioles bullpen has been impressive (Grant Wolfram has a 33.4% K-BB rate lol) but Cano looks like the guy we fell in love with a few years ago again. The velo is even down a little, but he’s commanding his stuff better and currently holds a ridiculous 5.58 PLV.

- Greg Weissert can be super inconsistent, but despite the high ERA, he does hold a 36% K rate and 5.29 PLV on the season, and the Red Sox have a need for a secondary setup man. He’s always tinkering with that five pitch mix, but maybe he’s finally found the best way to use all of them (sinker/sweeper usage up, four-seam/slider down)

- Caleb Thielbar has been great again this year, and his stuff looks even better than it has in the past at age 39. He should remain the interim closer for the next 2-3 weeks until Daniel Palencia returns. (EDIT: he left today’s game with an apparent hamstring injury)
- Ben Brown’s new sinker seems to help him out, and it actually grades out as his best pitch. I still don’t see a ton of upside here, but you could do worse, as he will at least eat innings for you.

- Brock Burke only has one hold on the year, but this is the best he’s ever looked, so I’d hope (and imagine) that changes moving forward as he’s clearly the best lefty in this bullpen. If Graham Ashcraft’s velocity continues to plummet or Emilio Pagán doesn’t turn things around, I could see Burke working his way into the 7th inning role.

- Only Hunter Bigge holds a worse K-BB rate than Kyle Finnegan amongst relievers with at least five innings pitched, but I’m still not too worried. He’s looked better lately, and it all starts with that splitter he’s throwing more these days and how he’s able to command it.

| Closer | Josh Hader (IL) | 60% |
| Interim Closer? | Enyel De Los Santos | 15% |
| Setup Role | Bryan King | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Bryan Abreu | <5% |
- Bryan King had a rough week, and I get that he’ll likely remain in the mix for holds, but I wouldn’t say he’s someone who needs to be rostered in those leagues. Still not a ton of swing and miss there so you’re banking on weak contact.
- Kai-Wei Teng hasn’t been getting a ton of swing and miss yet either, but given how good his sweeper is, that could (should?) change over time. I’d maybe up the sweeper usage and drop the four-seamer usage and just throw that sweeper 50% of the time.

| Closer? | Carlos Estévez | 40% |
| Interim Closer? | Lucas Erceg | 40% |

| Middle Relief | Daniel Lynch IV | 5% |
- Daniel Lynch IV has been the one pleasant surprise in this Royals bullpen, and at this point, if Carlos Estévez isn’t able to return, why not let Lynch close? He currently holds a 22.3% SwStr and 37.2% CSW rate while striking out 35.3% of hitters. Those numbers will come back down to earth, but his overall arsenal looks better this year (he could probably throw the four-seamer less)

| Closer | Jordan Romano | 45% |
| Setup Role | Drew Pomeranz | 15% |
| Setup Role | Sam Bachman | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Chase Silseth | 10% |
- Jordan Romano actually looked better his last time out, and with Kirby Yates sitting at just 90 MPH in his rehab outings, we may be looking at Romano in the closer role for a little while longer, at least.
- Drew Pomeranz stuff still looks great, the command has not been ideal, though, and he’s missing bats as a result. Some improved command and maybe better sequencing could turn things around for him, potentially.
- Chase Silseth isn’t great, but that splitter gets a ton of swing and miss. What he is right now might even be the best-case scenario for Kirby Yates

| Closer | Edwin Díaz (IL) | 25% |
| Interim Closer | Tanner Scott | 40% |
| Setup Role | Alex Vesia | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Blake Treinen | 10% |
- Edwin Diaz is going to miss 3 months, and while the team is hopeful he returns in the second half, he won’t be the team leader in saves this season. That should go to Tanner Scott who has looked great so far this year with 17% SwStr and 36% CSW rates and just a 2.9% BB rate.
- Alex Vesia has also been dominant, and you really couldn’t go wrong with either one in the closer role, but I suppose Scott has a bit more experience in the role (it’s the Dodgers, I don’t think they are too worried Scott’s contract for that to be a factor).

- Aaron Ashby is not going to get you a ton of holds and he’ll likely walk enough guys to raise your WHIP…but you are going to get a ton of strikeouts and win opportunities, so there’s some use here. Maybe more so in save-only leagues than hold leagues.
- Angel Zerpa needs to find a secondary he can trust because he can’t just keep throwing sinkers over the middle of the plate and hoping for the best. That’s only going to work for so long. It’s a good sinker, but not untouchable (this goes for you, too, Jose A. Ferrer).

| Closer | Devin Williams | 60% |
| Setup Role | Luke Weaver | 30% |
| Setup Role | A.J. Minter (IL) | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Brooks Raley | <5% |
- Devin Williams changeup isn’t great right now, the spin rate is way down, and the movement profile has changed on it (plus it’s up to 2 MPH). Add in that his four-seamer velocity is the lowest it’s ever been, and we have ourselves a problem. Just like with Cade Smith and his splitter and Andrés Muñoz and his slider, Williams desperately needs to find his changeup here, as soon as possible, or he is definitely in danger of losing his job. Of those three guys, Williams finding his changeup is the most important, as Muñoz can be ok with his fastball for a while, and Smith still has a sweeper. Williams relies on his changeup more than anyone. He should be the closer for the weekend, but he can’t afford any meltdowns.

- Brent Headrick is running an unlucky high BABIP at the moment, but he’s looked pretty good so far, and Tim Hill only has one more hold than him, so I’m not sure if Hill has a huge gap on Headrick at the moment. Hills is great at being a left-handed version of Tyler Rogers, essentially, but Headrick has far more strikeout upside in him.

- José Alvarado has been pretty bad this season, and I wonder if this is it or if he has something left in the tank still. The velo is down on both the sinker 1 MPH and the cutter (2 MPH), and even the movement profiles are down. The Phillies need Alvarado to turn things around, given the injuries in that bullpen and the lack of left-handed talent.

| Closer | Dennis Santana | 50% |
| Setup Role | Gregory Soto | 20% |
| Setup Role | Mason Montgomery | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Issac Mattson | 5% |
- Gregory Soto is not the same reliever we saw over his first couple of outings, as the velo is down now, and his sweeper does not look as good either. Over his past 7.1 IP, Soto has a 3.74 SIERA, 13.8% K-BB, 8.2% SwStr, and 106 Stuff+ with an average fastball velocity of 95.5 MPH. In his first 5.1 IP, he had a 1.05 SIERA, 42.9% K-BB, 17.6% SwStr, and 118 Stuff+ with an average fastball velocity of 97 MPH.
- Mason Montgomery has been trending in the complete opposite direction from Soto. Over his past 5.1 IP, Montgomery holds a 0.56 SIERA (-0.28 xFIP), 48% K-BB rate, 38% CSW, and 118 Stuff+. Super small sample, but you see why I’ve ranked him aggressively high in the past, as this kind of upside does not come along often.

| Closer | Mason Miller | 80% |
| Setup Role | Jason Adam | 5% |
| Setup Role | Adrian Morejon | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Jeremiah Estrada (IL) | 5% |
- Adrian Morejon is going to be just fine after having some really bad luck in a couple of outings to start the season. The stuffs better than it has ever been, and he’s even missing bats at a higher rate than he ever has.
- Bradgley Rodriguez is taking advantage of Jeremiah Estrada being out (3 holds), and while he doesn’t have the upside as a healthy Estrada does, Rodriguez is pretty pretty good in his own right with that nasty sinker/changeup combo. The cutter feels like a decent offering as well now, which should help him combat righties better.

| Co-Closer | Ryan Walker | 40% |
| Co-Closer | Keaton Winn | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Erik Miller | 20% |
| Co-Closer | Caleb Kilian | 10% |
- Ryan Walker got two saves this week, but I don’t think we can just assume he’ll be THE closer moving forward, as I still expect Vitello to play matchups with this bullpen more often than not. Walker still could be the favorite to lead the team in saves, but I don’t think we should expect 20+.
- Keaton Winn and Caleb Kilian have outpitched Walker this year as well, so if this team ever does go with a set closer, it should be one of them. Winn has been awesome (21.4% K-BB, 18.2% SwStr, 5.22 PLV), and while Kilian has been inconsistent, he has flashed significant upside at times.
- Erik Miller can work his way into the mix as the top lefty as well, and I do worry about the walk rate still, but he has been missing bats at a high level so far this season. He just tends to be super volatile.

| Closer | Andrés Muñoz | 80% |
| Setup Role | Matt Brash | 10% |
| Setup Role | Jose A. Ferrer | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Gabe Speier | <5% |
- Matt Brash only has 17.2% K and 12.1% SwStr rates, which is awfully low for him, and I wonder if he should actually throw his fastball more since hitters are just sitting on his slider now that he throws it about 60% of the time. Maybe going back to throwing the slider 50% of the time could actually help? Either way, the walk rate is down, and he has not allowed a run, so why am I worrying?

- Riley O’Brien still has not allowed a walk on the season despite holding just a 38.8% Zone rate, which ranks 187/258 relievers right now who have thrown at least five innings. This dominance may not be sustainable, but he can still be a great closer when he does come back down to earth in the coming weeks.

| Closer | Bryan Baker | 60% |
| Setup Role | Griffin Jax | 10% |
| Setup Role | Garrett Cleavinger (IL) | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Edwin Uceta (IL) | 10% |
- Bryan Baker still feels underappreciated in all formats, and I know the ratios don’t look great, but he’s missing bats at an elite level (19.4% SwStr, 35.4% CSW), and it’s not like this just came from out of nowhere. He has very comparable numbers to Abner Uribe going back to August 1st of last year.

- Cole Winn’s stuff may just be as mediocre as we had originally thought it was, and that’s ok, we can move on now to better opportunities, such as his teammate Jacob Latz. Latz was in the 95 MPH range in his last outing, and if he can live there, he’s going to be a problem for hitters. The fastball shape is already great, and the slider has been a plus offering as well. If he can get the changeup or even the curveball to be more consistent, then he can get righties out at a higher rate and potentially work his way into the closer mix.

- Louis Varland might be the best reliever in baseball this season, not named Mason Miller, and I really hope we get to see him get a chance to run with the closer role in Toronto now (sorry Jeff Hoffman and those who drafted him). Varland has four plus or better offerings and can get anyone out in any situation. His command has been what’s setting him apart from Hoffman, as Hoffman’s getting ridiculous swing and miss numbers as well, but the command has been shaky.

- Clayton Beeter, I guess, is still the closer here somehow despite the 2.2% K-BB, and 9.4% SwStr, and 4.85 PLV. It’s hard to trust him right now, but I don’t know, maybe things will turn around with his command, but even the stuff has taken a step back.
| Pitcher | Notes |
| Josh Hader | Biceps. Faced live hitters for the first time and is about one month away from returning. |
| Edwin Uceta | Shoulder. Started rehab assignment, but it’s expected to last a few weeks. He’s had mixed results so far. |
| A.J. Puk | TJS (Internal Brace). Throwing bullpens and still hoping for a late May/early June return. |
| Jeremiah Estrada | Elbow. Playing catch, which is a good sign. Bullpen work would be next. |
| Yimi García | Elbow. Throwing bullpens now, and we should begin a rehab stint any day now. |
| Andrew Kittredge | Shoulder. Rehab paused for paternity leave, but he should be back at the end of the month. |
| A.J. Minter | Lat. Has made two rehab appearances and looks good so far. Could return at the end of April. |
| Ben Joyce | Shoulder. Throwing to hitters now and could begin a rehab assignment shortly. |
| Joel Peguero | Hamstring. Has made three rehab appearances and, despite the results, seems healthy. |
| Hunter Harvey | Triceps. No idea how severe the injury is, but with Harvey, it’s likely not a short-term thing. |
| Kirby Yates | Knee. Expected to begin his rehab assignment soon. May return before the end of the month. |
| Garrett Cleavinger | Calf. Threw a live BP session today, and could go out on a rehab stint next week. |
| Justin Slaten | Oblique. Shut down for at least two weeks and will be re-evaluated. |
| Carlos Estévez | “Foot”. Beginning a rehab assignment this weekend and could return in late April. |
| Phil Maton | Knee. Likely to throw a bullpen session at some point next week. |
| Daniel Palencia | Lat. Better than the original Oblique diagnosis. He could return in 2-3 weeks. |
| Jhoan Duran | Oblique. The hope is that this will be a minimum or near-minimum stay for Duran, who has been playing catch. |
| Edwin Diaz | Elbow. He underwent surgery already and is expected to be out for at least 3 months. |
| Raisel Iglesias | Shoulder. No structural damage, just inflammation, so hopefully Iglesias is back in early May. |
| Robert Garcia | Shoulder. He isn’t expected to be out too long, but the team could play it slow with him. |
