Fernando Cruz, Aroldis Chapman, Jhoan Duran, Jaden Hill, Mason Miller, and Cade Smith each had three SV+HLD’s over the past week. Jaden Hill being with this group reminds me of this meme, but actually, Hill was really great his past week, and it’s not like he’s lacking pure stuff.

| Middle Relief | Kevin Ginkel | 5% |
- Taylor Clarke found a way into the Top 100 this week. Look, the upside is non-existent, but he’s proven he can keep a low WHIP for over a season now and is getting hold chances here, so roll with it for as long as he isn’t getting shelled.

| Setup Role | Hogan Harris | 20% |

| Middle Relief | Joel Kuhnel | 10% |
- Hogan Harris has the last A’s save, and despite the command issues that, while improved, still plague him, he remains the team’s top left-handed reliever. At the very least, he (and maybe Justin Sterner) is gaining on Jack Perkins in the closer race here.

- Didier Fuentes has the makings of a really good high-leverage reliever. I just don’t know what the Braves’ plans are for him the rest of the season. If he sticks in the bullpen, I could definitely see him taking over the role Tyler Kinley currently holds, as Kinley’s lack of a fastball is starting to hurt him.

| Middle Relief | Yennier Cano | 5% |
- Yennier Cano has been great this season, and a fantastic ratio play in particular. He still only has three SV+HLD’s, with just one coming since April 11th. He also has only had seven strikeouts since then, so you really are only getting ratio help from him.

- Phil Maton apparently isn’t all the way back as he had a particularly rough week, but at least the stuff looks fine. Some command tweaks could right the ship here, but he may miss out on hold chances in the short term with Jacob Webb pitching well and Caleb Thielbar returning from the IL today.

- As much as Seranthony Domínguez has struggled lately, I’m not terribly concerned, as the stuff has looked fine and the command isn’t even that terrible. Sean Newcomb and Bryan Hudson have both been pitching great as of late, though, so we could see one of the lefties factor into the ninth inning in the short term at least.

- Graham Ashcraft and Tony Santillan both had an opportunity to take the closer role here in Cincinnati and run with the role, but now we are just waiting desperately for Emilio Pagán to return. Since Pagán went down, Santillan holds a 23.14 ERA and 3.00 WHIP, while Ashcraft is at a 12.71 ERA and 1.59 WHIP. I had my doubts about Santillan, but Ashcraft has really dropped the ball here. Will he get another chance at saves?

| Co-Closer | Juan Mejia | 30% |
| Co-Closer | Antonio Senzatela | 25% |
| Setup Role | Jaden Hill | 20% |
| Middle Relief | Victor Vodnik | 15% |
- Ok, so we now have some relievers we may be able to believe in with the Rockies, as Antonio Senzatela and Juan Mejia now look like co-closers (potentially). Mejia got off to a rocky start but has been great over the past month with a 1.93 ERA (2.80 SIERA), 1.14 WHIP, and 34.5% K rate. We’ll take that from a Colorado closer. I just don’t know how sustainable those numbers are. Senzatela hasn’t been as good over the past month, 2.25 ERA (4.56 SIERA), 1.00 WHIP, and 16% K rate, but he’s at least turned into a steady, non-volatile reliever. So if you want to chase upside, Mejia is your guy, but if you just want a sturdy floor, go with Senzatela.

- Kenley Jansen seems just fine after his groin injury scare a few weeks ago, not allowing a baserunner over his past four outings and striking out eight. It’s good news, as the rest of this bullpen has been a problem.
- Will Vest is back, though, and that’s much-needed news for the Tigers, as Kyle Finnegan has been struggling mightily, and they really have no other upside arms to get excited about here.

- Okert is still my favorite lefty in this bullpen (with no Josh Hader available), and he’s quietly been great over the past month with an ERA under three and WHIP under one, but I still want to see some more swing and miss. That slider held a 22% SwStr rate last year, but currently sits at just 17.4%.

| Closer | Ryan Zeferjahn | 45% |
| Setup Role | Sam Bachman | 30% |
| Setup Role | José Fermín | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Chase Silseth | 10% |
- Sam Bachman holds a 2.25 ERA (1.84 SIERA), 0.67 WHIP, and 30% K rate over the past month and makes for a great deep league dart throw in save-only leagues right now. He’s already the top setup man for the Angels, and the recent command gains make him a safer option than Ryan Zeferjahn.

| Closer | Edwin Díaz (IL) | 20% |
| Setup Role | Tanner Scott | 60% |
| Setup Role | Alex Vesia | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Blake Treinen | 5% |
- Kyle Hurt continues to dominate, and it’s not overly exciting stuff, but the fastball/changeup mix (both above-average offerings) is working. He has an intriguing slider as well, I’d love to see more of, but as long as he is commanding the fastball as he has been, I can’t complain. He should be the top righty in this bullpen, as he’s more trustworthy than Blake Treinen at this point.

| Setup Role | Andrew Nardi | 5% |
| Setup Role | Calvin Faucher | 5% |

- Trevor Megill has overtaken Abner Uribe for saves, potentially, but this is probably not the last time these two flip-flop. Megill has certainly been the better of the two over the past month, though, with a 2.00 ERA (2.27 SIERA), 0.78 WHIP, and 32.4% K rate compared to Uribe’s 5.40 ERA (3.57 SIERA), 1.20 WHIP, and 25.7% K rate.

| Closer | Devin Williams | 75% |
| Setup Role | Luke Weaver | 10% |
| Setup Role | Brooks Raley | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Huascar Brazobán | <5% |
- Luke Weaver has been fantastic over the past month with a 1.38 ERA (2.32 SIERA), 1.08 WHIP, and 32.7% K rate as he’s settled into this setup role with the Mets. I think we’ve found who the secondary right-handed setup man will be as well, as Huascar Brazobán is running away with that role, it seems.

| Closer | David Bednar | 75% |
| Setup Role | Camilo Doval | 10% |
| Setup Role | Fernando Cruz | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Brent Headrick | <5% |
- David Bednar was close to blowing his second game in two days in spectacular fashion last night, but was ultimately bailed out by Springer swinging at ball four three straight times. We probably aren’t looking at Bednar losing his role quite yet, but another rough outing this week could be all it takes. Fernando Cruz has been great lately, but might be a little too volatile for the closer role (as is Doval). Tim Hill lacks the type of closer upside you want in that role, so who knows, maybe Bednar has a longer leash here than expected.

| Closer | Jhoan Duran | 75% |
| Setup Role | Brad Keller | 10% |
| Setup Role | José Alvarado | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Orion Kerkering | <5% |
- Orion Kerkering has some great ratios on the season, but what has happened to his bat-missing ability? The stuff has just plummeted over the past four seasons to the point where he’s now a 7% K-BB and 8.5% SwStr level arm.

| Closer | Gregory Soto | 60% |
| Setup Role | Mason Montgomery | 20% |
| Setup Role | Yohan Ramírez | 15% |
| Middle Relief | Evan Sisk | <5% |
- Yohan Ramírez is volatile, I get it, he’ll have some major blowups here and there. But the stuff is bordering on elite, and he’s been able to miss bats this year with that arsenal. Will it all click? Will the command improve? I don’t know, but he’s got the type of upside I want to chase.

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Mason Miller | 80% |
| Setup Role | Adrian Morejon | 5% |
| Setup Role | Jeremiah Estrada | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Jason Adam | 5% |
- Jason Adam still has just a 3.2% K-BB rate, so it’s hard to trust the ratios will stay this good forever. With Jeremiah Estrada rounding into form, Adam is not near any of the top three relievers in this bullpen right now from a skills standpoint.
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Closer | Caleb Kilian | 40% |
| Setup Role | Erik Miller | 20% |
| Setup Role | Keaton Winn | 15% |
| Middle Relief | Joel Peguero | 15% |
- Keaton Winn actually has some nice ratios this past month with a 1.64 ERA and 0.91 WHIP…but those come with a 5.08 SIERA and just a 2.4% K-BB rate (7% SwStr rate). Splitter guys are volatile, man. He’s likely out of the saves picture as well with Erik Miller back in the bullpen, although he’s pretty volatile himself.

| Closer | Riley O’Brien | 75% |
| Setup Role | JoJo Romero | 10% |
| Setup Role | Ryne Stanek | 5% |
| Middle Relief | George Soriano | 5% |
- George Soriano has a setup role with the Cardinals, but that doesn’t mean you should run and add him in holds leagues because there are some warning signs here, like a 7.69 pCRA and 7.62 xERA. He doesn’t have a trustworthy fastball, but the offspeed stuff is legit (especially the changeup).

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |

| Setup Role | Garrett Cleavinger | 10% |
| Setup Role | Kevin Kelly | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Ian Seymour | 5% |
- Garrett Cleavinger had a rocky week, as the stuff has been fluctuating from outing to outing, but I still have hope he’ll settle in eventually. Ian Seymour might be the more trustworthy lefty here right now, but I still prefer Cleavinger’s long-term upside.

| Closer | Jacob Latz | 7 0% |
| Setup Role | Jakob Junis | 15% |
| Setup Role | Cole Winn | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Gavin Collyer | <5% |
- Cole Winn hasn’t been getting a ton of holds, but that’s more to do with the fact that the Rangers have been struggling to win games lately (or at least close games). He’s still in a setup role, and we’ve even seen an uptick in bat missing ability from him over the past month (29% K, 17% SwStr).
| CLOSER SITUATION | ||

| Role | Pitcher | Save Chances |
| Closer | Louis Varland | 70% |
| Setup Role | Jeff Hoffman | 15% |
| Setup Role | Yimi García (IL) | 5% |
| Middle Relief | Tyler Rogers | 5% |
- Jeff Hoffman is still dealing with some terrible luck as his BABIP is still at .500, which is just an absurd number this late in the season. Only one pitcher held a BABIP over .443 at this point last season (Noah Murdock?), so that number has to come down soon. I get that it’s hard to be patient, but he will be a lot better moving forward.
- Mason Fluharty and Braydon Fisher possess really good stuff; they just aren’t seeing enough hold chances. Perhaps that will change with another bad Hoffman week?

| Co-Closer | Clayton Beeter (IL) | 30% |
| Co-Closer | Gus Varland | 30% |
| Setup Role | PJ Poulin | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Richard Lovelady | 10% |
- There’s a chance Clayton Beeter returns from the IL this week, so has Gus Varland done enough to keep Beeter out of the closer role? Given the fact that the Nationals won’t just let Varland close and are dead set on having no set closer, I don’t think it matters.
Injured List
| Pitcher | Notes |
| Edwin Díaz | Elbow. Underwent surgery on April 22 to remove five loose bodies. Moved to the 60-day IL on 5/15. The Dodgers are eyeing a return after the All-Star break, with August as the realistic window. Díaz says he’s “100% confident” he’ll be back this year. |
| Josh Hader | Biceps. Has allowed three hits with a 6/1 K/BB ratio across four scoreless rehab outings (2 at AA, 2 at AAA). Espada said he needs at least five more outings, so don’t expect activation when first eligible 5/24. Mid June feels right? |
| Ryan Helsley | Elbow. Still not cleared to throw. No ligament damage and imaging came back clean, but he’s just ramping up with weighted-ball work before a throwing program begins. Late May return is off the table as he’ll need a rehab assignment first. |
| Edwin Uceta | Shoulder. Subscapularis strain has him on the 60-day IL. Hasn’t resumed throwing yet. Realistically, looking at a mid-to-late June return, if not later. |
| A.J. Puk | TJS (Internal Brace). Throwing bullpens at Chase Field with about 10 more left before facing live hitters. Targeting a rehab assignment by the end of May, but a July/August MLB return is the more realistic outcome. |
| Emilio Pagán | Hamstring. On the 15-day IL after a Grade 2 strain, and we are in week two of the 4-8 week timeline, and he’s admitted that the hamstring wasn’t 100% even before the pop. |
| Matt Brash | Lat. Return is imminent as GM Justin Hollander said it’s basically a choice between one more rehab tune-up or activation this week. MRI was clean. |
| Matt Strahm | Knee. Placed on the 15-day IL on 5/16 with right knee inflammation. Quatraro said he’s been pitching through it all year, and the inflammation flared up in the ninth. Should be a short stay, hopefully. |
| Carlos Estévez | Shoulder. Now diagnosed with a rotator cuff strain after discomfort in his first rehab outing. Shut down for three more weeks, so mid-to-late June is the earliest he could return. |
| A.J. Minter | Lat. Threw a bullpen in New York on 5/12 after the hip setback. The Mets expect him back on a rehab assignment by this weekend with a fresh 30-day rehab clock to work with. |
| Yimi García | Elbow. Had more soreness than the team wanted after his first rehab outing. Next appearance is being pushed back a couple of days, but the Jays don’t believe it’s serious and still think he could return to game action later this week. |
| Gabe Speier | Shoulder. Set to begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Everett on Wednesday, with another outing likely Saturday. No structural concerns, so this looks like a potential true 15-day IL stint. |
| Clayton Beeter | Forearm. Cleared to begin his rehab assignment in the FCL. Shouldn’t need a long buildup, so a May activation is on the table (maybe even this week?). |
| Ben Joyce | Shoulder. MRI came back clean, but soreness is slowing the rehab process. He’ll likely need close to the full 30-day rehab window. Continuing outings at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga for now. |
| Grant Wolfram | Back. Hit the 15-day IL on 5/12 (retroactive to 5/9) with a lower-back strain. Earliest return is 5/24. |
| Jack Dreyer | Shoulder. Placed on the 15-day IL on 5/17 with left shoulder discomfort. Imaging revealed only inflammation. Earliest return is late May, but a June return is more likely. |
| Robert Garcia | Shoulder. Now throwing from 80 feet and seeing incremental improvement each time, but still working through discomfort. Not close to a mound and still no timetable. |
| Hunter Harvey | Triceps. MRI revealed a stress reaction in the right triceps. The setback has him shut down for at least another month, and he was transferred to the 60-day IL on 5/17. |
| Brock Stewart | Foot. Bone spur in his left foot. Roberts said three weeks is a fair timetable. “I don’t think it will be just the two weeks and then he’s back.” Aggravated it covering first base. |
| Bennett Sousa | Elbow. On the 15-day IL with left elbow inflammation, retroactive to 5/6. No firm return date yet, but the team is monitoring closely, given his elbow flared up to end 2025. |
