Elvis Alvarado, Yoendrys Gómez, Jacob Latz, Andrew Morris, Paul Sewald, and Alex Vesia each had three SV+HLD’s over the past week. Andrew Morris has not been very consistent this year, but he’s shown some strikeout ability at least. Since May 1st, Morris has held a 3.57 ERA (2.82 SIERA), 1.42 WHIP, and 30% K rate. That strikeout rate may not be sustainable, though, as he does have a sub 10% SwStr rate and 27.7% CSW.

- Kevin Ginkel seems to have stepped into the eighth-inning role for the Diamondbacks, and his velocity has been better since the start of May, looking closer to his 2022-24 velocity. Over his past 12.2 IP, Ginkel’s fastball is averaging 95.6 MPH, and he has a 1.42 ERA (2.85 SIERA), 1.11 WHIP, and 28% K rate over that span.

| Middle Relief | Justin Sterner | 15% |
- Elvis Alvarado came back last week and has done nothing but impress, allowing just one hit, no walks, and striking out 11 over his first 5.1 innings back. He’s even picked up saves in his past two outings, and why shouldn’t he, the way he’s throwing the ball? His velocity is up over 100 MPH, the command is better than it’s ever been, and he found his slider again. Given the ceiling we’ve seen recently, pick him up for now and see how things shake out.

- Raisel Iglesias has been OK over the past month (1.37 WHIP, 25% K rate in the past 11.2 IP), just not as dominant as he started the season. There haven’t been many clean outings lately.
- Didier Fuentes, on the other hand, seems to be getting stronger, although he’s been awesome going back to early May anyway (1.04 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 31% K rate over his past 17.1 IP). If they can find some more hold chances for him, he’ll move up even more.

- Ryan Helsley is back today after a couple of dominant-looking rehab outings, and he should slot right back into the closer role immediately. I’m being a bit cautious ranking him at the moment, but if everything looks normal in the next week, he’ll go back into the top 12.
- Anthony Nunez was optioned to make room for Helsley, so that leaves Rico Garcia, Yennier Cano, Andrew Kittredge, and Tyler Wells in the mix to get the ball to Helsley in the ninth (their lefties need to figure some things out). Garcia probably slides into a setup role, but he has not been great lately, and I’m not even sure what his role is anymore anyway (he pitched against the bottom of the order in the seventh down a run the other day). I’ll give it another week, but we could see Cano and Garcia switch spots, with Kittredge and Wells also trending up.

- Justin Slaten has had a rough few outings recently (16.88 ERA, 2.81 WHIP, over the past 5.1 IP), and the good news for him is there is not much competition here…but it’s still hard to trust him right now. It’s nice he’s locked into that 7th inning setup role, but it’s for a bad team, and he’s been volatile, so I think we can probably do better.

- Caleb Thielbar has been allowing runs lately, but the stuff has looked better, and we are getting swing and miss from him again, at least.
- EDIT: Palencia was placed on the IL today with an elbow injury. I’d imagine Jacob Webb would be first in line for saves, but he picked a poor time to allow three earned runs over his past 2.1 IP.

- Enyel De Los Santos had a rough week, and even the stuff took a hit as his velocity fell in his last outing. The good news for the Astros is that Bryan Abreu may have had his best outing of the year so far yesterday, as the velocity was up in the 96 MPH range, and the command wasn’t atrocious. I want to see it happen again before buying in, but that would be an exciting development.

- Alex Lange’s command issues have reared their ugly head with four walks in his past three outings, and he now has six walks since taking over the closer role (six games). He’s still the favorite for saves, but we probably shouldn’t sleep on John Schreiber either, who’s throwing the hardest he has since 2022.
- Matt Strahm continues to give up home runs as his stuff just isn’t great anymore. He could turn things around, but he’s not in a high-leverage role on a bad team right now, so you can move on.

- Yoendrys Gómez has picked up back-to-back saves now, and hopefully, we can stop debating whether or not he’s the closer after this week. That said, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Morris or Banda get a save this week. Gómez hasn’t had any major meltdowns here, but the stuff fluctuates game to game with him, similar to a Caleb Kilian. More consistency, and he could get into the top 20 closer discussion.

- Brooks Raley is someone we should be able to count on for holds and a good WHIP/ERA, but he’s had just three clean outings since the start of May, leading to a 1.60 WHIP over his past 14.1 innings. With Minter back in the picture (Cionel Pérez has been pitching well, too), there’s no guarantee Raley holds on to his left-handed setup role.

- Good week from Camilo Doval, who went back to throwing his slider often, and I get it, it’s probably his best pitch, it just happens to be the one hitters’ time up and hit hard often. Trying to determine the pecking order behind Bednar has been tough, with Cruz and his walk rate being hard to trust, but Doval has been getting hit hard, and Headrick has a great ERA, but it comes with a 1.31 WHIP.

- Mason Montgomery’s velocity has been down for some time, but he hit a low his last time out as he was averaging just 96.7 MPH. This is not looking good, unfortunately. Fellow lefty Evan Sisk had a rough week as well, and finding stability in this bullpen remains an issue. Dennis Santana looked good his last time out, but is it a true turning point or just a blip?

| Closer? | Caleb Kilian | 50% |
| Setup Role | Dylan Smith | 15% |
| Setup Role | Erik Miller | 10% |
| Middle Relief | Ryan Walker | 10% |
- Caleb Kilian was allegedly named the closer here, which was certainly odd for many reasons. They have not named a closer all year, Kilian was pitching in the 6th and 7th before this, and is he really “named closer” worthy? With Winn now on the IL, it does leave them with almost no alternatives for the role, I guess, but I’m still hoping to see more of Dylan Smith in high-leverage spots since I could see him potentially being the answer in that role.

| Closer | Andrés Muñoz | 70% |
| Setup Role | Jose A. Ferrer | 15% |
| Setup Role | Gabe Speier | 10% |

- Andrés Muñoz continues to struggle and left Sunday’s game with some lower back tightness that he suggests is not a big concern. The command and lack of trust in his fastball is a big concern for me, though, but with Brash on the IL and Ferrer having a rough week, who is the next man up here? I love Gabe Speier as a lefty reliever, but I’m not sure he works as a closer. Eduard Bazardo doesn’t really check the boxes as a potential closer as well, so I think the best course of action for the Mariners is for Muñoz to fight through this (assuming he is healthy) and hopefully figure things out.

| Setup Role | JoJo Romero | 15% |

- Riley O’Brien continues to have problems with commanding his stuff, and if JoJo Romero weren’t having his own issues at the same time (5.40 ERA, 1.71 WHIP over past 11.2 IP), he’d probably have taken over the role by now. That leaves George Soriano as the potential next in line (Ryne Stanek’s home run derby last week sets him back), but Soriano’s fastball is not great, so there’s limited upside there. Starting to look like a situation to just avoid unless you’re in deeper or NL-Only leagues.

- Outside of Bryan Baker, Kevin Kelly has been the only stable piece in this bullpen for Cash to rely on in high-leverage situations. Garrett Cleavinger continues to be hit or miss, and beyond that, there’s not much to get excited about. Kelly’s allowed just two earned runs since mid-April (24 IP), and while the strikeout rate isn’t exciting, we’ll take the low ratios and holds.

| Edwin Díaz | Elbow. Cleared to throw a bullpen session this week, the next step in his throwing progression. Roberts said the recovery is “coming along really well.” Post-All-Star break return remains the target. |
| Daniel Palencia | Elbow. Placed on the 15-day IL on 6/16 with right elbow inflammation, his second IL stint of the year after a lat strain earlier this season. No update on severity. |
| A.J. Puk | TJS (Internal Brace). Major setback as he reported left shoulder discomfort after an outing, and underwent an MRI. Lovullo said he’ll be out “weeks, not days” and that “it’s going to be a little bit longer of a shutdown than most anticipate.” |
| Erik Sabrowski | Elbow. Was scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake County on 6/14, but the game was rained out. Could be back in Cleveland’s bullpen by next week if the rehab outings go cleanly. |
| Justin Martinez | TJS. Still working through the 15-bullpen progression Lovullo laid out before the next steps. Late-August best-case return; a 2027 reappearance remains the more likely outcome. |
| Jeremiah Estrada | Knee. Still on the 15-day IL with right knee inflammation. Earliest return remains 6/19, and the absence is not expected to be lengthy. |
| Emilio Pagán | Hamstring. Threw his first low-intensity mound session on 6/8 and underwent a follow-up MRI on 6/13. If the results check out, he expects to face hitters this week and then discuss a rehab assignment. |
| Matt Brash | Lat. Back on the 15-day IL with a right lat strain, his second lat issue this season. Wilson said, “It’s going to be awhile” and that Brash “won’t be able to throw for a while.” No timetable as of yet. |
| Edwin Uceta | Shoulder. Kevin Cash said he had “no update” on Uceta’s shoulder status as of 6/8. Still no mound work. A return remains months away, with 2026 in doubt. |
| Graham Ashcraft | Elbow. Status unchanged from last week, recovering from the PRP injection for the UCL sprain and still gathering a second opinion to hopefully avoid Tommy John surgery. Multi-month absence at minimum. |
| Keaton Winn | Elbow. Placed on the IL last week with an elbow strain. Felt soreness playing catch and underwent an MRI. Vitello said he won’t throw for “a handful of days at the most” and doesn’t believe the injury is “anything too crazy.” |
| Carlos Estévez | Shoulder. Continuing his throwing progression and could throw a bullpen session by the end of this week, per Anne Rogers. Still no rehab outings on the board; early July remains the earliest realistic return. |
| Evan Phillips | Elbow. On a rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City; first appearance on 6/4 saw him hit 95.7 mph with his four-seamer over 2/3 of a scoreless inning. Will need a lengthy rehab buildup before activation. |
| Yimi García | Elbow. Continuing his rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. Schneider said there’s a chance García rejoins the team during the upcoming Boston series, activation could finally come this week. |
| Ben Joyce | Shoulder. Still on the 60-day IL, working through the throwing program in Arizona. No firm timetable; buildup remains slow and deliberate. |
| Brad Keller | Forearm. Placed on the 15-day IL on 6/16, with forearm tendinitis. Picked up the injury after his Saturday outing in Milwaukee. Expected to miss at least the next couple of weeks. |
| Tyler Kinley | Elbow. Placed on the Braves’ 15-day IL on 6/10 with right elbow inflammation. Kinley said there’s “no long-term concern.” Eligible to return as soon as 6/23 if he can resume throwing in the next few days. |
| Robert Garcia | Shoulder. Still no bullpen sessions, and not eligible to be reinstated until late June. The Rangers want to see him progress to bullpens before establishing a firmer timeline; a July return remains in play. |
| Hunter Harvey | Triceps. Set to restart his throwing program Friday after the four-week shutdown, per Patrick Mooney. With live bullpens and a minor-league rehab assignment still ahead, he’s still weeks away. |
| Brock Stewart | Foot. Officially began a rehab assignment on 6/13 with Single-A Ontario. Roberts noted the rehab length is uncertain, “given how the foot responds to the workload.” First positive movement in weeks. |
