Depth Chart and Matchups
Catcher News and Playing Time Changes
Connor Wong and Tyler Stephenson returned from injury this week. The pair will slot back into the top of their respective depth charts, bumping Carlos Narváez and Jose Trevino into backup roles. Stephenson drew his first start at DH and figures to see additional time there following injuries to other Reds hitters.
Iván Herrera is in the middle of a productive rehab at the plate but might miss this week as he ramps up his catching. Once he returns, Pedro Pagés will shift to a backup role.
Salvador Perez is battling a hip injury but is considered day-to-day for now. If he misses time, Freddy Fermin will take over behind the plate.
Elias Díaz is pushing to overtake Martín Maldonado on the depth chart. Maldonado has been the favorite this season, but Diaz is having a good stretch at the plate and could win additional playing time.
Maverick Handley is the new backup in Baltimore following the injury to Gary Sánchez. He’s had a strong start to the year at AAA and could provide a few homers and steals in deep leagues.
Tucker Barnhart is lined up to fill in for injured Kyle Higashioka. Higashioka and Jonah Heim have split starts evenly this year, and Heim is well-positioned for a significant bump in playing time. Higashioka is expected to miss the minimum 10 days, but Heim will have a busy week in his absence.
Agustín Ramírez has locked down the starting job in Miami. He’s batting so well that he’s played just as many games at DH as he has behind the plate since his debut. His average dropped off after his ridiculous first few games, but he’s hit three homers in the last week.
Carson Kelly has cooled off after his red-hot start but is still hitting quite well, going 7/23 for a .407 average with three homers in the last two weeks.
Francisco Alvarez had his first big game last night after returning from the IL last week. He went 3/5 with three RBIs, raising his season average to .269.
Streaming Options
Hunter Goodman 42% on Yahoo! (COL): Goodman would be my pick in any league size where he’s available. He’s more of a DH than a catcher and is batting third or fourth in the lineup. He’s hitting .407 with two homers in the last two weeks. The Rockies play at Coors for six games this week, which takes the sting off of facing Tarik Skubal — the rest of the week’s matchups are much more promising. Jacob Stallings is an interesting play in NL-only leagues, he gets plenty of starts with Goodman busy at DH.
Elias Díaz 1% on Yahoo! (SDP): Diaz is a promising streaming candidate for super deep leagues. He’s hitting .261 with two homers in the last two weeks and will benefit from a three-game trip to Coors Field to close out the week.
Jonah Heim 12% on Yahoo! (TEX): Heim has been batting close to .300 for the last month, and the additional playing time he stands to gain in Higashioka’s absence should push him to the next level, fantasy-production-wise. He’ll dodge Boston’s and Detroit’s aces on his six-game road trip.
Dillon Dingler 6% on Yahoo! (DET): Dingler has been playing well with a .270 average and two home runs in the last two weeks. He gets a trip to Coors and a date with Patrick Corbin on Friday.
Edgar Quero 2% on Yahoo! (CWS): Quero is batting .417 in 16 games this season. He’s held back his lack of homers and the anemic White Sox offense. The Sox won their last two games and could be heating up a bit. Quero hit 16 home runs in the minors last year, so it’s a matter of time before he finds the next level.
