Catcher News and Playing Time Changes
- Mickey Gasper and Jhonny Pereda are splitting the starting job in Ryan Jeffers‘ absence. Too bad the Twins won’t play the Dodgers again this season, they’ve acquired the only catcher to strike out Shohei Ohtani.
- We went from two apostrophes to zero as Logan O’Hoppe and Travis d’Arnaud both hit the injured list for the Angels. Sebastián Rivero and Chad Wallach will replace them in that order.
- Sean Murphy is out for the season, and Sandy León is in to replace him. Drake Baldwin is in line to receive heaps of playing time for the rest of the season.
- Luis Torrens is out for the Mets: Hayden Senger will take his place at backup.
- Will Smith is in injury purgatory, and Dalton Rushing is still working his way back from the IL. Ben Rortvedt started in five of the last six.
Streaming Options
Drake Baldwin – ATL (26% on Yahoo): Baldwin turned into an everyday player overnight with Sean Murphy hitting the IL. Baldwin is in a slump this week, but his biggest issue has been volume while splitting time with Murphy.
Patrick Bailey – SFG (4% on Yahoo): A walkoff grand slam against the Dodgers? He’s up to six home runs on the year after hitting four in the last fortnight.
Carson Kelly – CHC (21% on Yahoo): Three home runs in the last week. He’s shown himself to be a streaky player, and this looks like the start of a hot streak.
Freddy Fermin – SDP (2% on Yahoo): Faces the floundering Mets and the White Sox. Batting .310 in the last two weeks.
Sebastián Rivero – LAA (0% on Yahoo): Your only streaming option if you want someone in Coors. He had nine home runs in 68 games at Triple-A this year with a .738 OPS.
