Depth Chart and Matchups

I hope this column has been helpful this season. It’s been a joy diving into the weird world of catching each week. I’d like to dedicate this article, the last Catchers to Stream of 2025, to the seven catchers who started for the Baltimore Orioles this year. This one’s for you, Adley Rutschman, Gary Sánchez, Maverick Handley, Chadwick Tromp, Jacob Stallings, Alex Jackson, and Samuel Basallo

Catcher News and Playing Time Changes

Streaming Options

All-Around Best Option

Drake Baldwin – ATL (26% on Yahoo): Sean Murphy is out, and Baldwin has the green light to play every day. Well, mostly every day—he still sits against left-handed pitching on occasion. He’ll match up against two southpaws next week, so he should have plenty of playing time. Baldwin is playing well, and facing the Nationals and Pirates will push him to the next level

Best Deep-League Option

Carter Jensen – KCR (2% on Yahoo): Jensen has started in six of the Royals’ last seven games, split between catcher and DH. He batted in the leadoff spot yesterday, but hasn’t faced a southpaw since he got the call to the bigs at the start of the month. He’ll face three lefties next week, so you’re betting on the Royals giving him a chance. They’ll face the Angels, followed by the Athletics, so even if he doesn’t start every day, the excellent matchups should help make up for it. He’s hitting .412 with two home runs in the last week.

Other Options

Gabriel Moreno – ARI (35% on Yahoo): He has been hotter than Baldwin lately, but his matchups next week against the Dodgers and Padres will knock him down a peg.

Patrick Bailey – SFG (8% on Yahoo): Has half of his home runs on the season in the last two weeks and is batting .278 in that span. He’s been colder in the past week, but he’ll wrap up next week against Colorado in San Francisco for a last-minute power boost.

Joey Bart – PIT (4% on Yahoo): His playing time is trending up, and he’ll face the Reds in Cincinnati for a nice boost. He doesn’t have the highest ceiling, but he could be heating up with a home run in the last week.

Victor Caratini – HOU (3% on Yahoo): The Astros face the Athletics in Sacramento Tuesday-Thursday. Caratini is a clear backup, but he’s played at catcher twice and DH twice in Houston’s last seven games.

Thank you for reading. I hope to see you again next year,
