Depth Chart and Matchups

Playing Time Changes

  • The A’s picked up Jonah Heim to serve as their new backup. He wasn’t hitting terribly well with Atlanta, and the A’s won’t be anxious to get his bat in the lineup. Still, he’s an upgrade over Austin Wynns.
  • With Yainer Diaz out, Christian Vázquez will take over as the primary catcher for Houston. César Salazar looks to be the new backup in his stead.
  • Sean Murphy is healthy and back with the Braves. Atlanta likes to play Drake Baldwin at DH, so Murphy could see more playing time than your standard backup.
  • Joe Mack got the call in Miami. He figures to serve as backup to Liam Hicksbut like Murphy, he could get a fair chunk of playing time considering how often Hicks plays at first base or at DH.
  • J.T. Realmuto made his return last week. Rafael Marchán seems to have won the backup role over Garrett Stubbs.
  • Gabriel Moreno is healthy and starting for the Diamondbacks. James McCann appears to be the backup, with Adrian Del Castillo shifting into more of a DH-first role.
  • Luis Campusano is on the shelf for the Padres. Freddy Fermin figures to be the starting option, with Rodolfo Durán getting the call from Triple-A to back him up.
  • The Giants called up Jesus Rodriguez, and he has a good shot to run away with the starting job. Neither Patrick Bailey nor Eric Haase has done much of anything at the plate so far, though all three have played since Rodriguez got the call.

Streaming Options

Jesus Rodriguez – SFG (2% on Yahoo): The Giants will visit Sacramento next weekend, and by then, we’ll have a good idea of whether Rodriguez is the new starter for the Giants. He’s got a solid hit tool with not a ton of power to back it up, but he could be a decent long-term option in deep leagues.

Gabriel Moreno – ARI (10% on Yahoo): Moreno has a road trip to Coors next weekend. He’s off to a slow start since returning from the IL, but at least he’s hit one home run in his four games back.

Joe Mack – MIA (2% on Yahoo): Mack has started in three of four games since being called up to replace Agustín Ramírez.  He’s a power hitter with a poor hit tool, but he has a nice spread of matchups against the Twins and Rays.

Dillon Dingler – DET (50% on Yahoo): Dingler is hitting well of late with the metrics to back it up. The Tigers will see the Mets and Blue Jays, and the Mets’ bullpen alone makes that interesting.
