Playing Time Changes
- Last week it was Sean Murphy; this week it was Drake Baldwin. The Braves are down two catchers and will turn to third-stringer Sandy León to start behind the plate. Chadwick Tromp can finally return to his true calling as Atlanta’s backup catcher.
- The Reds are without backup Jose Trevino. P.J. Higgins will take his place for the time being.
- Arizona lost James McCann to a quad injury. Adrian Del Castillo is starting at DH most days and has one start at catcher since McCann went down. Aramis Garcia was recalled from Triple-A and is in the mix as well, though he hasn’t seen the field since McCann was injured.
- The most interesting shakeup of the week is the return of Giants’ Daniel Susac, who dethroned Jesus Rodriguez for the starting job. It’s unclear which of Rodriguez and Eric Haase will draw the bulk of backup starts; each has started in one game since Susac’s return. I’m giving the nod to Haase as he drew one additional start in left field.

Daniel Susac – SFG (2% on Yahoo): Susac started the season off with a bang before missing three weeks to an elbow injury. He holds a .965 OPS on the season, albeit without a home run. At 2% rostered and with a clear hold on the starting job, Susac appears substantially under-rostered. He slugged 18 homers at Triple-A last year with seven SBs, so I’d expect him to get on the board for both eventually. He has a trip to Coors on his schedule for next weekend, and I feel like he’s tentatively pencilled in to hit his first big league home run during the trip.
Dillon Dingler – DET (66% on Yahoo): Dingler will cap this week against the struggling Orioles. He’ll open next week against the awful Angels and close it out against the softer side of the White Sox’s rotation.
Keibert Ruiz – WSN (15% on Yahoo): Surely his 1.783 OPS and .600 AVG over the last week are sustainable. It’s the second week of dominance in a row; let’s see if he’s got another one in him.
Gabriel Moreno – ARI (32% on Yahoo): Coming off a strong week with a 1.121 OPS. He won’t have the benefit of Coors next week, but he faces the Rockies at home today and tomorrow if you’re looking to close the week out strong. I’m less optimistic about him for next week: San Francisco and Seattle’s stadiums will likely quiet his bat.
