Depth Chart and Matchups

Playing Time Changes

  • With Alejandro Kirk out for the Jays, Tyler Heineman will slide into the starting role for the next six weeks or so. Brandon Valenzuela appears to be the backup. Heineman is a reasonable volume play in AL-only or two-catcher leagues, hitting for a .289 average in 64 games last year.
  • P.J. Higgins will serve as the backup for Cincinnati with Jose Trevino on the shelf. Not relevant in any league.

Streaming Options

Francisco Alvarez – NYM (37% on Yahoo): Alvarez will get a boost over the next few days from a prime matchup against the A’s. The Dodgers will follow, but he’s heating up with two home runs and a .278 average over the last week. Likely your best streaming option if he’s available

Carter Jensen – KCR (26% on Yahoo): My biased pick – he’s simply a better hitter than his roster percentage would suggest. He’ll square off against the White Sox, Tigers, and Yankees. Two home runs and a .313 average over the last seven days. I like both Alvared and Jensen as everyday options in all league sizes.

Tyler Stephenson – CIN (5% on Yahoo): The Angels, Giants, and Twins are all looking shaky so far. Two home runs in the past seven days, and could keep things rolling nicely.

Freddy Fermin – SDP (1% on Yahoo): He’ll benefit from a few more days of Rockies and pitching and catch the Angels at the end of the week.

Victor Caratini – MIN (2% on Yahoo): The presumed backup, but still drawing regular starts between catching and first base – five starts in the Twins’ last six games with a .300 average in that span. He’ll see the depleted Jays, floundering Red Sox, and just-okay Reds.
